Aug10-Jan11:
Community Shield:
I decided to play a slightly weaker side in this match, did quite well to be fair, a 2-1 defeat to Arsenal obviously disappointed the fans, but the performance was promising, considering it was pretty much a second string of players against the likes of Arshavin etc.
Had a superb start the season following that game, a 15 game unbeaten league streak, as well as taking a point away at Barca, and getting six points from Anderlecht, while getting a home win a Porto (and losing away) left Tottenham top of the group.
The first league defeat came at home to Man City, a poor performance all round, and thanks to Ledley King scoring in his own net pretty much gifted the away side 3 points. I tried to pick the team up from what seemed like a devestating and unnecasery loss, which worked... For a week, a victory against Fulham still couldn't build up enough confidence for the guys to get anything from Liverpool which was a shame.
We started January with two cup games, winning both, both 2-1 wins. The first against Bristol City in the FA Cup (5th Rnd.) the other was a win at home to Arsenal. Maybe it could be the start of a good year?
I decided to cash in on the full backs, as I wasn't playing a very wide formation, they were not needed yet were talented enough to make me some money.. So that was the end for Bale (£7.5M), Naughton (£7.25M) and Bouma (£3M). I also decided to sell Bentley (£8.5M), because.. Well, he's useless
The rest of January went as follows, 3 league wins, 1 draw, 1 loss. And 2 cup defeats, the first at Arsenal (3)1-3(4) and against Everton 0-3. But hey, at least we managed to win the Champions League group and were handed an easy draw against Bordeaux.. Or maybe it wasn't so easy?
So how's it going so far...
FA Cup: OUT
League Cup: OUT
Champions League: (First Knockout Rnd.) v Bordeaux
Premier League: 4th (Joint points with Arsenal, above, and Liverpool, below.)
