Trying to sign Ronaldo or Messi, then they get new contracts

So yeah, something weird is happening every time I try to sign Ronaldo or Messi. Even though they want to come to my club, and even though the contract offer gets accepted, then in the end they always accept a new contract from their clubs, and dosent make the transfer to my club. This has happened 4 times now, in 4 different seasons.

Anyone else tried this?

I have both in my team, but only got them when they turned 34...

I just offer them a lot of clauses, also to the club, so the offer seems unbeatable.

they just accepted your contract offer but it didn't mean that they made final decision so their current clubs also offered them new improved contracts and they preferred to stay
