UEFA has announced the nominees for the UEFA Club Football Awards with a total of 12 players shortlisted both for the positional awards and for the overall prize of UEFA Club Footballer of the Year.

The UEFA Club Football Awards will be presented during the UEFA Champions League group stage draw in Monaco on Thursday 26 August, with three players apiece in contention for the best goalkeeper, best defender, best midfielder and best forward awards.
The nominations are decided by the coaches of the 16 teams that reached the knockout stage of the 2009/10 UEFA Champions League. Each coach has the opportunity of voting for the individual positional prizes as well as to name their choice for UEFA Club Footballer of the Year 2010.

One of the following 12 players in line for a positional award will be presented with the main item of silverware during the awards ceremony at the Grimaldi Forum, which begins at 17.45CET next Thursday.

• UEFA Best Goalkeeper of the Year
Júlio César (FC Internazionale Milano)

Lúcio (FC Internazionale Milano)
Maicon (FC Internazionale Milano)
Gerard Piqué (FC Barcelona)

• UEFA Best Midfielder of the Year
Xavi Hernández (FC Barcelona)
Arjen Robben (FC Bayern München)
Wesley Sneijder (FC Internazionale Milano)

• UEFA Best Forward of the Year
Lionel Messi (FC Barcelona)
Diego Milito (FC Internazionale Milano)
Wayne Rooney (Manchester United FC)

No Drogba. Bit of a surprise.

Drogba deserves to be there more than Diego Milito imo.

Julio Cesar
Lucio
Xavi
Messi

really? treble winner, scoring goals that helped win all three (scored in both finals IIRC).

To add to that, Scored in the final league game, which turned out to be winner so they won the league,

Scored in the final of Italian cup,

Scored brace in the champions league final.

TBH, Drogba deserved to be in the list in place of Rooney.

this has got to be the first time in a while that their is no chelsea representation. i think people have got bord of lampard now just because he does it year in year out and no other centre mid in the world does. and no drogba is abit of a wierd one aswell, yes rooney was sensational last season and im a massive fan of wazza but drogba scored more and won more???

OMG even Forlan missed out too. Very tough to make these shortlists.

Inter clean sweep for me

Hugo Lloris

Gerard Piqué

Wesley Sneijder

Diego Milito

Should put up a poll ;)

most of you aren't right :)
Julio Cesar (Goalkeeper)
Maicon (Defender)
W. Sneijder (Midfielder)
Messi (Forward)

I think these UEFA Club football awards are mainly based on performances in the champions league which is why people like forlan and drogba aren't nominated.

Could be wrong though.

For me, Julio César, Piqué, Xavi and Messi.

Valdes
Lucio
Robben
Messi

Toss up between Valdes and Cesar, both were good.
