Ok I think that the backroom staffs are an integral part of any football team, even more so in Football Manager.

However, I think it is a majorly over looked aspect of the game. They can find and maximise the potential of your up and coming stars, speed up the recovery of your injured players, even help to keep the team morale high.

Whenever I start a new game I buy in a few players but also sign a few decent scouts, a new physio and one or two new coaches.

What you want from your backroom staff are:-
  1. A good, wide scouting base; that covers the major areas (Europe and South America).
  2. Physios that can get your injured players fully fit asap.
  3. Coaches that train all the attributes of the players on your team (One for every part of training).
  4. Lastly, a good Assistant Manager, one that has a good all round knowledge and a good knowledge of your team.

Please not these aren't the best that are out there, there are much better staff
not doing all the work for you :P

Scouts
In a good scout you should look for high Judging Player Ability, Judging Player Potential and Working with Youngsters.
Recommended scouts include:-
  • Ernesto Varnier (Udinese).

  • Bruno Conti (Roma).

  • Aurélio Pereira (Sporting CP).

  • Miguel Ángel Portugal (Real Madrid).

  • Piero Ausilio (Inter Milan).

All of these Scouts have over 18 in Judging Player Ability, Judging Player Potential and Working with Youngsters.

Physios
From a good physio you want a high rating in Physiotherapy and a good rating in Working with Youngsters. The high rating in Working with Youngsters means your youth teams will benefit as well.
  • Hans-Wilhelm Müller-Wohlfarth (German National Physio).

  • Sabino Padilla (Not assigned to any club).

  • Luiz Alberto Rosan (Sao Paulo).

  • Chris Morgan (Liverpool).

  • Grant Downie (Middlesbrough).

Coaches
Coaches whether First Team, Goal Keeping or just general Coaches should have a high rating in Man Management and Level of Discipline. They should also specialise in a certain area: Attacking, Defending, Goal Keeping, Fitness, etc... Also Discipline, Motivation, Determination are very important for coaches.
Attacking Coaches:-
  • Boro Primorac (Arsenal).

  • Fausto Salsano (No Team).

Defending Coaches:-
  • Gonzalo Abando (No Team).

  • Domenico Borelli (Crotone).

Goal Keeping Coaches:-
  • Nello Malizia (No Team).

  • José Manuel Ochotorena (Valencia and Spain).

Fitness Coaches:-
  • Vincenzo Pincolini (Lokomotiv Moscow).

  • Claudio Gaudino (Juventus and Italy).

Assistant Manager
They should have a good all round knowledge and high ratings across the board. A good Tactical Knowledge, Man Management and Motivation are a must. If you always send your Assistant Manager to all the press conferences then they need these attributes to most benefit your team.
Good Assistant managers include:-
  • Pat Rice (Arsenal).

  • Mauro Tassotti (A.C Milan).

  • Ezio Sella (No Team).

also the mental attributes like discipline, motivating, determination are very important, especially for coaches. the easiest way to find a 5-star coach is to use the coach calculator: http://bonzollm.net.tc/

Can't do all the work for ya can I ;)

Also, try Quintiliano Lemos Filho or Valter Di Salvo they're the ones I've signed (you might only be able to get the first one if you've imported Brazillian leagues though)

btw your pictures are all over the place, youve currently got a pic of a guy in the physio section with a physio rating of 5 XD

really I thought I'd organised them, yeh they're not the best out there by far, just examples of the stats to look for

My labtop trying to get used to these screenshots is like Tom Cruise trying to go for one of the Pussycat Dolls. They're too tall!

all fixed now, nice guide, will assess its popularity then decide on sticky-ing it

could we maybe have some reccomendations for lower leagues?

Why at the beginning it give me advise about fitness, strength, speed etc. advantage or disadvantage which I used to very good effect by using touchline shouts. But now it tells me what how narrow I should play or something like that but when I do what they say I get beat:@. How can I make them say what they said before.
