Hello and Welcome,
I have just been listening for the past hour to one of my favourite artists, his lyrics are very meaningful and he is displaying clear messages that some of the best artists in the world tend to do. He is mixed race and his family is also from Baghdad. He has entered the UK grime and rap scene in the last 5 years, and many of his fans are thinking this to be an amazing year for him. I thought i would create a thread where some of you fellow members can share some songs, artists or albums that are hardly known but that you really enjoy listening to
My example, as i have gave details above, is MC Lowkey. He has done many covers and some tracks himself, but is not a notable artist. Here are a few of his songs, his wikipedia profile and some more details:
Mad World Remix
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WpRUMREdssk"]YouTube- Lowkey & Doc Brown - Mad World (Remix)[/ame]
My favourite song from Lowkey, combining with Doc Brown, he creates a remix of Gary Jules Mad World. His verse is a very bold one, talking about issues in school, racism and the modern world. Along with the amazing voice of Gary Jules, the powerful verse from Doc Brown and the amazing piano instrumental from the original. A great combination that i listen to almost daily. :wub:
Obama Nation
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HkFyrzgp5Os"]YouTube- Obama Nation (snippet) - Lowkey[/ame]
Being originated from a Country that is largely at war with America, he portrays a mesasge in this song. This song is very short, but shows a good sense of meaningful lyrics and i find it very good to listen to for his point of view on Obama.
Alphabet Assassin
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToZUIdbgqjE"]YouTube- Lowkey & Faith SFX - Alphabet Assassin[/ame]
For any fans of the American star 'Papoose'. He produced a track where each verse will be a letter of the alphabet and must contain a large amount of words of that letter, it looks very hard to do. I think Lowkey does a good job of the Alphabet challenge. ^^)
Freestyle, 120 Bars
[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4yCeqM6W4iQ"]YouTube- LOWKEY - WHO SAID I CAN'T DO GRIME - 120 BARS (MINI VID)[/ame]
A freestyle from Lowkey, proving that he can do Grime aswell as Rap. I think his Rhyme scheme and pace of his freestyle is very good. 8-|
And there are more videos of MC Lowkey on various youtube profiles.
MC Lowkey has stated that he uses the internet more than the radio to produce music, as many tracks are on youtube. He does NOT have a major label or large money investment, i think he has done very well.
So, thats all from me. Now i ask you to do your part
Please comment back with your favourite undiscovered tunes and artists and i'm sure many of us will take a look
If you want, you can express your views of MC Lowkey. I'm sure if you do not listen to Rap or Grime, you will not appreciate his type of music. So, please comment. (A)
Thanks,
