Updates and Patches on Steam

Hi guys,

I skipped FM2011 and have come back for more this year and obviously as you all know, Steam is not a requirement rather than an option.

So, this is my first time ever using Steam, and also first time using FM on Steam.

My question is - I understand Steam downloads, installs and updates FM whenever any patches come available (it does it the first time you install the game). When January comes along and there are transfer updates, what will happen? I doubt that players will automatically move to the right 'real life' teams upon the update as this would kill the game, so does a message or something pop-up to tell you new updates will only take effect if I re-started a new save?

Transfer updates/patches only works if you start new game.

I dont think Steam has updated my game!!

When I start a new game it says version 12.0.0......surley this should say 12.1.4 or summit??

how can i check?? how can i update steam manually??

The database version is 12.0.0 because all the patches up to this point are just fixes to the game itself. The 12.1.0 patch should come out some time after the january transfer window.
