After the departure of Christian Gross, VfB Stuttgart have decided to appoint 39 year old former English international holding midfield player Eddie Money to the managerial hotseat.
Not the appointment that everyone was expecting, but the Stuttgart board have declared they are fully behind the new boss. Money stated that he felt fully ready for his first fuore into management since he finished playing, and was excited about trying to turn VfB Stuttgart into a world beating side, on par with the likes of Barcelona and Manchester United. Raised eyebrows occured thanks to that statement, but you cannot deny the enthusiasm of the new gaffer, at least.

The board and the manager agreed that the team could challenge for the german first divison title, and after some budget tweaks in the boardroom, there is 9 million to spend, and 85k in spare wage budget.

Good luck - Stuttgart are my favourite German team :$ Shall be looking out :)

Good luck, stuttgart are a good team, one of my favourite players is there, Hleb, you better play him

thanks for your support guys, more will be added tomorrow night :)

and yes, hleb is one of the best there, shame hes only on loan... he will be playing :)

Ah, Christian Gross, one of the not so great Tottenham managers :) I will be following, good luck

A freindly was agreed between the Stuttgart first team and the reserves. The game was not as close as the scoreline suggests, with the first team dominating much of the play, but failing to capitalise on the majority of chances. Still, a win is a win, and it picks up the lad's spirits.

The odds for the title were released also, with Stuttgart placing third, at 20-1, a long way behind the clear favourites, FC Bayern. Eddie Money gave an interveiw, stating "we aim to close that gap in opinion as quickly as possible". The new manager clearly has high hopes for his team.

And finally (for now), after the month of June was spent battling with other clubs for the signitures of various players, the transfer window opened as July 1st hit. Stuttgart boss Money, having already bought in Jorge Andrade on a free, followed that up with the signings of defensive midfielder Anthony Annan, and attacking midfielder Marco Verratti.
"Annan is a man after my own heart" claimed Money, who spent his career in the same holding role that Annan plays in, and he also went on record to say that Verratti was "probably the most talented 16 year old ive seen with a ball at his feet".
"there will be one, maybe two more additions yet" were Money's final words, so we wait to see who else will be bought into the Stuttgart side.

Nice writing so far. Keep it up

thanks kris :)

The search for new players, and a good pre-season, continues ;)

Along with the signings of Andrade, Annan and Verratti, Stuttgart boss Eddie Money wasted no time in further adding German international attacking midfielder Piotr Trochowski to his squad. "He has great technique and is very good with the ball, and he's nippy to boot" said Money.

Trochowski was bought in just in time to make the bench for the first proper freindly of the season, against Stuttgart's swiss feeder team, St. Gallen. Money was looking for the side to build on the win against the reserve team a couple of weeks earlier.
After a good display of attacking football, the German side walked away 3-0 victors. Goals from Tasci and Hleb in the first half paved the way for the win, with Cacau finishing the game off with the third goal in the second half.

The pre-season games were on a bright outlook after the two victories, and Stuttgart really drove on with the form they had been showing, winning 4-0 at Erfurt, and repeating that scoreline four days later when they visited Ulm. In a bizarre hat-trick of results, Stuttgart beat Dijon 4-0 two days after the Ulm match, but winning in the knowledge that three days later, they would visit Villa Park for a freindly against English top 4 hopefuls Aston Villa, who would provide a much sterner challenge.

Not so. Heskey made it 1-0 to Villa after 2 minutes, but a superstar performance from Cacau saw him score a hat-trick, with the first of his three coming straight from the kick off after Villa's goal! Gebhart added number two, and then Cacau wrapped the game up with his other goals. "A fantastic performance from Cacau, and just the result to really get confidence going" enthused Money after the final whistle.

In the transfer market, Stuttgart midfield player Martin Lanig was subject to a 5.75 million bid from Werder Bremen, which Money accepted, feeling it was a decent price, especially with funds running short at the club. After the sale of Lanig, Eddie Money added Hedwiges Maduro and Server Jeparov to the Stuttgart side, leaving the transfer budget at £0, and the wages 1k p/w under the limit. The team was completed...for now.

In the final stint of pre-season games, two more crazy results for VfB Stuttgart in the freindly cup, first beating Cherno more in the semi final 6-3, and going on to meet Lazio in the final, which saw another repeat result, another 6-3 win for Stuttgart! "It's ****** mental!" chirped Money enthusiastically after the game. A 1st round German cup tie with Magdeburg awaits Money and his Stuttgart side upon this completion of the pre-season, which, on this form, looks like a certain victory for VfB. But all of these games pale into insignificance, because on August 8th, the German Bundesliga season begins. And Stuttgart play host to none other than FC Bayern in thier first match...

We'll see how happy Mr. Money is in his post-match chat after that game eh...

MORE TO COME SOON! any comments/etc/etc much appreciated :D

screenies below for everything :)

The first proper game of the season. German Cup, 1st round. Stuttgart vs Magdeberg. VfB gaffer Eddie Money was in a positive mood prior to the game, and with good reason, having seen his side score 33 goals in the 8 freindlies in pre-season.
The cup tie sparkled into action after just 4 minutes, that man Cacau burying a great effort from 25 yards out. This set the trend for Stuttgart, who ran riot among the Magdeburg defence, further goals from Boulahrouz, a Pogrebnyak double, Jeparov and Gebhart saw VfB score 6 goals for the third game on the bounce. Magdeburg grabbed an 80th minute consolation, but it was to no avail, the tie was well won.

"Im pleased we won the game comfortably" said Money. "No disrespect to Magdeberg, but i hoped we would see a scoreline like this, and we are now fully focused on the challenge of Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga opener".

The Mercedes-Benz-Arena was rocking. Full to the brim, with every one of the 55,896 capacity crowd excited about what was to come from the biggest game on the first day of the season.
Stuttgart and Bayern had both set out strong sides, and it was clear from the kick off that Eddie Money had not changed the fluid attacking style he likes the VfB team to play with just because Bayern were the visitors. Both teams went close in the opening moments, Hleb and Cacau for Stuttgart both missed good chances to score, and a great peice of play on the right from Robben nearly led to a goal for Mario Gomez, who crashed Robben's cross against the bar, before it was scrambled clear.

It only took untill the 18th minute for the deadlock to be broken though. Lovely play from Kuzmanovic saw him slide a Fabregas/Carrick-esque pass through to Pavel Pogrebnyak, and the Russian wasted no time in clipping the ball over the onrushing Hans-Jorg **** and into the Bayern net for 1-0, the Stuttgart fans going crazy as Pogrebnyak celebrated.
And ten minutes later, the Stuttgart supporters were given even more to cheer about, as a long range effort from Hleb was saved by Hans-Jorg ****, however he pushed it straight into the path of Sami Khedira, who cooly slotted home to make it 2-0 to Stuttgart.

It stayed like that till half time, and Money looked very happy with his sides display.
But only 3 minutes into the second half, Miroslav Klose had made it 2-1, getting a vital goal back for Bayern with a strong header from Robben's corner.
Moments later, Bayern were enraged when Badstuber went down in the box after a tussle with Kuzmanovic, but the referee waved away the protests. Louis Van Gaal was furious on the Bayern bench at the decision.
Despite Bayern having more of the play in the second half, they could not add to the Klose goal, and the game finished Stuttgart 2 - 1 Bayern.

"Fantastic effort from the boys out there today, im very happy to have got the win" stated Money after the game. "I dont think thier shout was too much of a penalty to be honest" he added, "it was six of one and half a dozen of the other, the ref can't give a penalty for that, he made the right call"
Not an opinion shared by Louis Van Gaal, who openly criticised the ref after the game for his call. I wonder what the German FA will think of that...

With confidence riding high amongst the Stuttgart side after the win against Bayern Munich, the team would once again need to prepare themselves for a challenge. The first of the two games in the Champions Cup best placed playoff was next, and Arsenal were the hurdle standing in the way. Stuttgart had the home advantage, and the game was a tightly contested affair, but a neat pull back from a corner led to Server Jeparov storming a 25 yarder into the back of Manuel Almunia's net. 1-0 to Stuttgart, and fortunatly that was the way it stayed, with Arsenal substitute Theo Walcott thinking he had scored late on, only to see it ruled out for offside.

"I couldn't care less about what Arsene Wenger has to say" said Money, smirking after the match. "Walcott was a good half a yard offside, and ****, he's so quick, the lad cant help himself but get caught sometimes. I bet on Football Manager hes got acceleration and pace of 19 or 20".

Still a second leg, this time in London, to come, but in between the Arsenal games, VfB would face Mainz in a Bundesliga match.
A goalmouth scramble led to Ciprian Marica poking the ball in on 39 minutes, and a victory was confirmed when Hleb was axed just inside the box, and he picked himself up to place the ball in the far right of the net for 2-0 to Stuttgart on 72 minutes. Marco Verratti set a new record for Stuttgart, being thier youngest ever player in the first team at 16 years and 290 days in the match.

In fairness though, the fans, staff and players all had one eye on the second leg against Arsenal. VfB could even lose and still progress to the group stages of the Champions League, which would meet the expectations of the board for the season, but Arsenal at home would be hard for Stuttgart.

60,000 plus in the Emirates, and both teams raring to go. Anyone who appreciates beautiful football would have been drooling over Arsenal as the match got going. Fantastic passing moves, with Fabregas heavily involved, saw Andrey Arshavin score two goals in the first half, on 21 and 39 minutes, and going in at half time, Eddie Money was clearly unhappy with his sides failure to stop Arsenal from dominating the possesion and the play.

It looked like all the hairdryers and boots being kicked through the air in the world wouldnt be able to change things for Stuttgart, but Money's half time words had some effect. Appearing much more invigorated in the second half, and with a tactical tweak or two, Stuttgart got back into the game. Pogrebnyak pulled one back 8 minutes after the restart, making it 2-1 to arsenal, but importantly, 2-2 on aggregate, and if it stayed this way, VfB would be through on away goals.

That isnt how it stayed. Walcott had plagued the Stuttgart left back Boka all game, and on 73 minutes he burst in from the right, past Boka like he wasnt there, and fired home just before Delpierre could get to him, putting Arsenal back in front. Money made his final change, bringing on Sami Khedira on the left wing, where he had just become accustomed to playing.

And did it work or what! Khedira made an instant impact, following up after a corner was weakly cleared and fired through a packed penalty box into the bottom left corner. 3-2 on the night, 3-3 on aggregate, and VfB back in front on away goals again. But that man Khedira finished Arsenal's jaunt in the Champions League for this season with the final kick of the game, scoring his second and making it 3-3 on the night, and 4-3 to Stuttgart overall. After the game, Stuttgart captain Jens Lehmann told journalists how the team talk at half time from Eddie Money had inspired them to get the result against Arsenal.

Mr. Money was not available for comments after the match, but he was seen out on the town that night, with an unattractive blonde on his arm, and looking in no fit state to do anything except fall over and try to avoid his expensive suit with his vomit...

The draw for the group stages of the Champions League were to be made, and Stuttgart, as third seeds, drew Unirea Urziceni, AZ, and the mighty AC Milan. "Its as good as we could have hoped for realistically i think" said a much more presentable Money. "I honestly think that we have a good chance of trying to finish second in the group, and with lady luck on our side, you never know we might have a go at 1st. I'd really love to make the quater finals if im honest" he stated, "and it would be brilliant if we can progress any further than that, but lets focus on the job in hand for now".

Schalke were up next for VfB in the Bundesliga, and Eddie Money told of how he was looking forward to facing them.
Far from the most exciting match you'll ever see, nothing really happened untill Server Jeparov hammered home from the edge of the box after a pulled back corner on 41 minutes, making it 1-0 to Stuttgart. Schalke had thier chances in the second half, Pander and Farfan going close, but then the main incident of the match happened. With no one near him, Timo Gebhart went down in a heap on 78 minutes, and had to be strechered off. 4 months out with a torn calf muscle was bad news for VfB. A rather stale game was finished when Jeparov completed a great game for him personally, with a 25 yarder after another pulled back corner for 2-0 to Stuttgart.

"Great game for Jeparov, but its a blow to lose Gebhart, especially till the new year" said Money in the post match. "His versitility will be missed, and we hope he rocovers as soon as possible".

August finishes here, but with Stuttgart into the Champions League group stage, and with 3 wins from 3 in the Bundesliga, and in second place, its been a very good start to the manegerial career of the Englishman in Germany.

ANY COMMENTS GREATLY APPRECIATED :)

September begins for Stuttgart with an away game at Gladbach. Easy enough on paper, but these games are often the difficult ones.
Not so today however...3 goals in the first twenty minutes for Stuttgart pretty much put paid to any chance Gladbach had. Annan and a Khedira double made it 3-0, and the teams went in at half time with that scoreline. In the second half, Michael Bradley pulled one back for Gladbach, before Khedira finished the game off with his third goal completing a sensational hat trick, seeing as he is a defensive midfielder!

"An amazing performance from Khedira!" said Money, clearly delighted with the midfielder's contribution.

On his desk a few days later, Eddie Money saw the release of the the Champions League winner's odds. Barca and Real were hot favourites at 4-1, and his Stuttgart side were well down the list, at 20-1, and generally expected to struggle against most teams they came up against.

"people underestimate the talent and abilty we have in the team, and we are out to show the bookies just how wrong they are" claimed Money, when asked about the subject. "We have shown we can mix it with the big boys by beating Arsenal, so these 'bigger' sides can underestimate us at thier peril!"

Next up was a home tie in the Bundesliga with Leverkusen. Things got off to a good start for Stuttgart, with Cacau being dragged down in the box after 4 minutes, and Jeparov stepping up to place the resulting penalty in the net for 1-0. Cacau made it 2-0 in the second half, when on 59 minutes, he burst into the box, quick feet saw him move through two defenders, and he fired the ball into the roof of the net through the arms of Dominik Poremba, the Leverkusen keeper.

The opening Champions League group game followed 4 days later, with VfB hosting the toughest team in the group, AC Milan. "If we stick to our game plan and the lads give it all they can, im sure we can take postives from this game at the end of 90 minutes" Money said, prior to the game.
Things did not start well for Stuttgart. 11 minutes in, and Trasch let Milan's Mancini cut in from the left hand side. Mancini played the ball into Pirlo, who gave it straight back to Mancici as he continued his run into the box, and he evaded Lehmann to put the ball in the Stuttgart net, 1-0 to Milan.

VfB were back in it 9 minutes later though, as a deft chip over the Milan defence from Hleb set Marica racing onto the pass, through on goal, and despite not being a natural finisher, he chose power over placement and hammered the ball low under the oncoming Flavio Roma.
A choppy game ensued after the two goals, with many fouls and knocks, and 3 minutes into first half injury time, Trochowski took it upon himself to take on and and beat Gattuso in midfield, and lash a great strike into the top left corner, leaving Roma with no chance. 2-1 to Stuttgart, and they were further helped when 6 minutes into injury time, Huntelaar picked up a knock, and had to be replaced. Both teams created chances in the second half, but Milan could not grab another goal, and VfB held out for a very good 2-1 victory.

Once again, Money was nowhere to be found after the match. He was, however, in the papers the next morning, photographed slumped on a sofa in an exclusive nightclub, with champagne bottles surrounding the table, and a waiter angrily gesturing at him with what looked to be a bar tab bill. Probably an expensive one at that too...

MORE TO COME LATER :) please leave suggestions or comments guys, i want to make this good for you to read as well as me to play and write it :D

Having apparently missed a training session the day after the Milan result, and being given a dressing down by the media for his celebratory antics, Eddie Money was still only willing to talk about his team and the football before the next game with Werder Bremen.
"You can say what you like about me as a person, but you can't deny that the way we as a team are doing at the moment is fantastic" Money said. "Todays match is going to tough for us but we are all positive about what we can acheive today".

A whipped cross from Werder's Ozil after a corner was cleared found the head of Naldo in the 35th minute, and he duly powered it in for 1-0 to Werder Bremen. The game had been looking like it would go Bremen's way as it had progressed, and the goal didnt come as much of a suprise in all honesty after a spell of Bremen pressure.
After some strong words and a couple of changes at half time, Stuttgart looked much more lively in the second half. A bit too lively in the case of VfB's Tasci, who lunged in on Tim Borowski of Bremen in the 57th minute, and was very lucky to get away with a yellow card for a horrible tackle, which left Borowski in agony and he was stretchered off, and taken straight to hospital with a suspected broken foot, which was later confirmed, putting Borowski out for 4 months.

Stuttgart continued to push on, and in the 71st minute, they were back on terms, thanks to a big slice of luck. Verratti hit a shot from the edge of the box, and Clemens Fritz the Bremen right back went to head it away, but only succeeded in heading the ball into the top corner of his own net. 1-1. And six minutes later, the Werder defence were kicking themselves again, as a low, hard cross from Hilbert was toe-ended into his own net by Per Mertesacker, making it 2-1 to Stuttgart, but Werder Bremen had scored all 3 goals! Those own goals sapped the Bremen confidence, and the game petered out and finished 2-1.

The second round of the German League cup was next, and VfB faced Kaiserslautern, one of thier feeder clubs. Money fielded a slightly weakened side, giving some lesser used players a game. Hilbert put VfB 1-0 up after 19 minutes, but just before half time Kaiserslautern were level through Jendrisek. Stuttgart kicked off again, and lovely play from Marica and Verratti from the kick off led to Marica replying instantly to make it 2-1 to Stuttgart. It could have been more in the second half but Marica and substitute Hleb missed good chances, but on the 85th minute Hleb fired home a 30 yarder for 3-1 to VfB. Mandjeck pulled another back for Kaiserslautern 3 minutes later, but it wasnt enough, and Stuttgart progress 3-2.

http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=532&pictureid=3792

Reluctantly, after the game, Money had to let Server Jeparov return to Uzbekistan for a month, as he was feeling homesick, in the hope that the break would help Server return feeling revitalised.

Three days later, and Bochum were the visitors to Stuttgart in the Bundesliga. In a frantic opening 22 minutes, Cacau scored twice, and Khedira added a third, making it 3-0 to VfB, and making it very hard for Bochum to get anything from the game. Pogrebnyak added a goal either side of half time, and the roar from the Stuttgart fans at the final whistle let the team know they were delighted with the 5-0 victory.

http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=532&pictureid=3793

Eddie Money could not hide his beaming smile after the game, and he was even happier when he saw another result from the day...

http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=532&pictureid=3794

Ribery, Robben, Klose and the rest could not stop a rampant Koln, who tore Bayern apart.
Nearing the end of September, and the positions of Stuttgart, and Bayern, could not be more pleasing to Money.

http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=532&pictureid=3795

The final game of September saw Stuttgart face off against AZ of Holland, in thier second Champions League group game.
The first half contained nothing of note except for a yellow card for each side, but the second half was a much more highly contested affair. AZ hit the crossbar just after the restart, unlucky not to go 1-0 up, and VfB made them pay, when Trochowski picked up the ball from Lehmann's goal kick, turned Wernbloom, skipped his way past Schaars, and crashed a 25 yarder past Romero in the AZ goal, giving him no chance. AZ had more chances to get back in the game, but couldnt get that equaliser, and in the 80th minute, Khedira finsihed them off, making it 2-0 to Stuttgart with a low drive from the edge of the box into the bottom corner.

http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/picture.php?albumid=532&pictureid=3797

"2 wins from 2, you cant moan at that in the Champions League" Money told the press conference. "AZ did well today, but we just showed a little more edge in front of goal".

Here we see the end of September, and Stuttgart looking in good shape. How will October fare for the team?
