Between 1943 and 1966, the world was graced with one of the most amazing and unheard strikers. Ferenc Puskás, of Hungary, made 533 league appearences and celebrated 515 league goals. He won 85 caps for Hungary, bringing 84 goals. Most of his career was spent with Real Madrid, where he won 5 league titles and 3 European cups.

Vladimir Puskás (fictional), was born as Ferenc's nephew on the 6th April 1960. He played for the Hungarian side, Debrecen in recent years and became a solid centre back for the club. He also had spells at German club, 1.FC Koln and spent the the later years of his career at Cadiz in Spain, yet never made the cut for the national side.

The family reputation meant that Vladimir had a point to prove, believing that he only got to where he did due to his late, great uncle. This is a story on how Vladimir copes with the stress and pressure of the media, fans and the expectations of the Hungarian people to continue the proud family name.

Next update tomorrow guys, I didn't realise the time and I've got to be up early tomorrow (A) Hope that wettens your appetite though...

Nice one :) Good luck. The nephew of one of the greatest players of all time to become one of the greatest managers of all time? :D :p

Dont mean to go all gay on you, Isnt Vladimir Puskas a russian polictian or was?

Vladimir is a Russian name, not Hungarian!

A few examples; Michael is French, Daniel is French, Alexander is Scandinavian, Vladimir Koman is a Hungarian footballer who used to play for Sampdoria. So your point is irrelevant :p And lol, yes I'm doing a story on Vladimir Putin being a football manager lmao ;) Anyway...

11th June 2009
Former defender, Vladimir Puskás, has taken the vacant managerial role at 1.FC Koln of the German Bundesliga. The Hungarian defender, nephew of the great Ferenc Puskás, has no managerial experience, yet he comes from the background staff at Spainish club, Cadiz, where he has worked for the past two seasons as a scout. When Vladimir was interviewed by the German press he was asked; "What are your ambitions for the club this season?", Puskás replied saying that "a top half finish is definately within grasps, I see the team has a lot of potential and I am hoping to end the 'yo-yoing' between divisions to make us a solid Bundesliga club".

Puskás has just under a month before his first competitive game on the 8th August against Borussia Dortmund. Here is 1.FC Koln's pre-season friendly list:

Duisberg
Osnabruck
RKC *
FC Omniworld *
Telstar *
Helmond Sport *

* - Part of club's pre-season tour of Holland.

These games are ones in which Puskás is hoping to mould his team and figure out what areas are in need of strengthening.

The 1.FC Koln chairman, Wolfgang Overath, has gave Puskás a transfer budget of £2.2m to spend on players and a wage budget of £375k p/w. Vladimir has remained silent on transfer stories, yet it looks likely that the club is looking to sign players on a free transfer to improve the depth of the team.

1.FC Koln - Key Players
Lukas Podolski - German international striker, signed from FC Bayern in the summer. He began his career at 1.FC Koln and is looking to retrace his steps as he joins his former team.

Maniche - Veteran Portuguese midfielder. The solid midfielder adds strength and determination into the middle of the pitch for Puskás' men.

1.FC Koln - Overall Squad
Overall, the team lacks depth in the midfield and also central defence, yet remains strong in the final third of the pitch. There is no decent back-up for the left back area. These are all areas that Puskás is expected to strengthen.

16th July 2009
Things have been relitavely quiet for 1.FC Koln in regards to transfer activity. However they have managed to secure the signing of Guglielmo Stendardo for 80k from Lazio. Vladimir Puskás has said that he hopes that Guglielmo is able to add depth to the defensive line. However there is speculation that 1.FC Koln have accepted a £7.5m bid from Stoke City for Brazilian defender, Geromel.

Today also sees the start of the German clubs pre-season tour of Holland against RKC. Here are the match overviews from the two previous friendlies that have been played.

Koln 3-0 Duisberg
Milivoje Novakovic put Koln a goal up after 2 minutes. A quickfire double from Lukas Podolski (41) and Sebastien Freis (44) put Koln 3-0 up before half time. Podolski continued to impress in the second half, yet the Bundesliga side failed to add to their tally.

Osnabruck 0-2 Koln
Slovenian striker, Milivoje Novakovic, put Koln ahead with another early goal after 6 minutes. Lukas Podolski got his second goal of the pre-season in the 25th minute. Koln failed to impress after the half time interval, yet remained solid at the back, ensuring the victory.

Cheers :) I think I'm gonna have ago at experimenting with layouts, it looks a bit boring so far. I wanna brighten things up a bit :)

Pre-Season Tour of Holland
RKC 1-3 Koln
1.FC Koln made a bright start to their tour of the Netherlands. Lukas Podolski added a goal to his fine pre-season form after 11 minutes. However RKC pulled level on the 38th minute. Despite this, Koln's captain, Milijove Novakovic, put the Germans back in front 2 minutes later. Koln started the second half well, with Lukas Podolski getting his second of the game to make the score 3-1. Hans Mulder was sent off for RKC on the 60th minute, due to a dangerous tackle.

FC Omniworld 2-3 Koln
Dutch side, FC Omniworld, almost caused on upset in Koln's second game of the season if it wasn't for Geromel's late winner. Omniworld took a two-goal lead after 15 minutes. Podolski pulled a goal back just before half time, before Maniche pulled the sides level just after the interval. Geromel grabbed a late winner in the 82nd minute to ensure Koln's comeback.

Telstar 0-2 Koln
A very straight-forward and professional display from Koln saw them dismiss Telstar without any shocks. Maniche put Koln up after 22 minutes. New-signing Stendardo secured an easy win with his first goal for the club with a great header from a corner from loanee, Zoran Tosic.

Helmond Sport 0-2 Koln
Yet another 2-0 win for the German side, under new-management. Puskás and his men ended their tour of Holland with a good display against Helmond Sport. Sebastien Freis scored a good goal from outside the area in the 37th minute. Three minutes later Portuguese midfielder, Petit, put Koln 2-0 up. Puskás' men managed to hold on the lead and will travel back to Germany the next day.

Transfers
Out: Jose Pierre Vunguidica - Loan - AC Arles Avignon
Rachid Bouallal - Loan - AC Arles Avignon
Bienvenue Basala-Mazana - Loan - Dusseldorf
Geromel - £7.75m - Stoke City

In: Server Jeparov - Bunyodkor Toshkent - £825k
Grygoriy Yarmash - Vorskla - £1.2m
Oskar Lewicki - FC Bayern - 85k
Xherdan Shaqiri - Basel - Loan fee £725k
Luca Antonelli - Parma - Loan fee £475k

Overall, the signings have bought added depth to the areas which Vladimir Puskás stated that are in need of strenghtening. Uzbekistani, Jerparov, adds to the central midfield. Loan signings Shaqiri and Antonelli both add numbers to the left midfield and also the left side of defence. Yarmash, of Ukraine, adds to the weak right-back position, whilst also equally as good at centre-back. Oskar Lewicki, aged 17, is definately a signing for the future. The departure of Geromel for over £7m has definately helped Koln out financially and the fans have expressed their support of this decision.

German Cup
Trier 1-6 Koln
Vladimir Puskás and his men certainly stole the show in the 1st round of the German Cup with an impressive 6-goal display. Milivoje Novakovic put Koln a goal up after 7 minutes. However debutant, Grygoriy Yarmash, made a mistake at the back and bought down Yannick Salem in the box on the 22nd minute. Markus Anfang stepped-up to take the penalty to make it 1-1. However Puskás had expressed motivation in the side is good and this was definately shown throught the rest of the match. Novackovic, with his second goal, Zoran Tosic and Lukas Podolski but Koln 4-1 up before half time. Podolski was taken off with a rib injury on the 54 minute. However in the last ten minutes, Maniche and Zoran Tosic grabbed the win. A very good display from the Serbian winger, who picked up man of the match, and most importantly Puskás had won his first competitive game with Koln to take them into the second round.

C'mon guys I want more than one comment after each update, I suppose the exciting stuff is coming up though ;) By the way, if anyone has any suggestions on transfers or tactics, or perhaps even any constructive critisism on layout or my style I would be very greatful :D

Season Begins With Controversy at RheinEnergieStadion
Koln 2-2 Dortmund
What a start to Vladimir Puskás' first season as a manager! After 8 minutes, Koln were a goal down due to Neven Subotic making a good connection with head and ball, out jumping Lebonese defender, Youssef Mohamad. However 12 minutes later Maniche got his second goal in as many games to draw the two sides level. Koln came out the better side after the half time break, however it was the 69th minute in which the controversy started. Sebastien Freis launched a floating ball into the area which was headed into the back of the net by Novakovic. He wheeled off celebrating infront of the fans, without realising that the referee had given Dortmund a free-kick. Fans failed to realise what was wrong with the goal, so did the commentators! To top it all off, Dortmund took the lead in the 83rd minute due to a goal from Brazilian, Tinga. Puskás had already used all three substitutions when Zoran Tosic had to be taken off, forcing Koln to play the last 5 minutes with 10 men. However, it was Puskás and his men who had the last laugh. Sebastien Freis picked up the ball, in what looked like an offside position, and buried the ball into the back of the net, 2 minutes into injury time. His first competitive goal for Koln and what a time to get it!
After the match, Puskás stated his disbelief to Novakovic's dissallowed goal and the German FA have remained very quiet on the matter. When asked about Freis' late equaliser, he simply laughed and said "That's life."

Puskas Loses First Game In Charge of Koln
Frankfurt 3-2 Koln
Frankfurt never really looked like losing this game, however they did suffer a scare late on. Amanatidis got the ball rolling after 18 minutes and Selim Teber doubled Frankfurts lead a minute after half time. Koln were two goals down, yet showed the discipline and determination to pull the game back. Lukas Podolski got on the end of Novakovic's cross on the 57th minute, and less than three minutes later Sebastien Freis levelled the game with a brilliant placed shot. However, as quick as Koln equalised, Frankfurt pulled back the lead with Selim Teber's second of the game. Youssef Mohamad was then sent off in the 68th minute for a professional foul. Koln almost grabbed another late equaliser with a string of corners in the latter stages of the game. However, it was too little too late. Vladimir Puskás and his squad went home empty handed.

German Cup
The draw for the second round of the German Cup has put Koln at home against Division 2 side, Ausburg. The tie of the round has to be the clash of Hannover and Wolfsburg.

Yeah really appreciate the comments guys, keep them coming oO)

1.FC Koln Thrashed by Werder
Werder Bremen 4-1 Koln

Vladimir Puskás will be struggling to understand why his side played so awfully in this game compared to previous outings. They failed to put up a fight as Hugo Almeida, Claudio Pizarro and Torsten Frings put Bremen 3-0 up before the 30th minute. Lukas Podolski grabbed Koln's only goal on the 36th minute. Bremen coasted the rest of the game and Tim Borowski added the 4th goal in the 75th minute. Puskás was reported to give written warnings to all defenders who played in this game. New signing, Grygoriy Yarmash, spoke out on the matter saying, "Yes the warning was deserved, there wasn't one player on that pitch worthy of praise. Although Werder Bremen have a very good side the way we played was inexcusable."

Honours Even at RheinEnergieStadion
Koln 0-0 Bochum
Most Koln fans were pleased with taking a point, but further pleased with the massive turn around in the Koln defence. Guglielmo Stendardo made a very impressive display, giving Bochum striker Stanislav Sestak a very rough afternoon. However it was the injurys picked up by Sebastien Freis (hamstring) and Milivoje Novakovic (calf) that marred the game. Both players will miss up to 3 months of action. Vladimir Puskás stated after the game that this is a very big blow to his ambitions of a top half finish this season. However he has stated that he believes 21 year-old Moroccan striker, Adil Chihi, is well up to the challenge of being his first-choice striker to partner Lukas Podolski.

"This is where our season starts!"
Hertha BSC 0-2 Koln

1.FC Koln seemed to be an entirely different team out on the pitch today with an emphatic all-round performance. There appears to be a silver-lining with Novakovic's injury as his replacement, Adil Chihi bagged two goals to get Koln's season underway. There was little to talk about in the first half, except Server Jeperov coming close with a shot which whistled past the woodwork. However it was Jeperov's precision pass which unleashed Chihi against Hertha's goal to give Koln the lead on the 70th minute. 5 minutes later Chihi got on the end of a brilliant cross from Fabrice Ehret, heading the ball in at the near post. Koln fans were very pleased with the result, one fan said "This is where our season starts!"

Y'know, not everybody gets comments. Stop fishing for them - I'm sure a load of people are reading, just not everybody comments.

Sorry for asking for feedback. Got nothing good to say don't say anything yeah? You read it sooo

Which proves my point. Everybody reads a story. Just carry on, you're doing well.

Koln Almost Upset The Odds
Koln 1-2 FC Bayern
Nothing was expected of the Koln squad in this game, however the Koln fans would definately put up an arguement as Lukas Podolski struck against his former club on the 44th minute after a very good first half display from the home side. However Koln buckled under the pressure in the second half and Thomas Muller pulled it level on the 60th minute. Miroslav Klose then scored a controversial winner in the 80th minute. Puskás was very unhappy at the end of the game. "The man (Klose) does nothing all game, scores a goal which he was offside, celebrated like he won the World Cup and was given man of the match." When asked what he thought on the winning goal, Puskás simply laughed and said "Are you trying to get me into trouble?" The German FA was yet again quiet on Puskás' comments on officials decisions.

This is how the league table stands on the 23rd September 2009.

table.jpg

If I'm honest, I'm not to pleased with how the season has started. I would be expecting a mid-table position around about this stage, however it is still early in the season and anything can happen.

German Cup
Koln 1-1 Augsburg AET (5-6 Penalties)

Koln fans couldn't believe what they were watching out on the pitch today. Koln failed to live up to expectations throught the 90 minutes without scoring against a much inferior opposition. Taner Yalkin scored 1 minute into extra time and Koln looked set to go to the next round, however Augsburg levelled on the 119th minute to wipe the smiles off Koln fans. The game went to a penalty shootout, where all of the first five penalties were scored, until Grygoriy Yarmash stepped up and had his penalty saved. However Koln were let off when Uwe Mohrle put his penalty wide for Augsburg. Loan-signing, Luca Antonelli, then stepped up and blasted his penalty over the cross-bar. Patrick Molzl then converted his penalty to take Augsburg into the third round. Koln were set an expectation of reaching the third round. Could Vladimir Puskás' job be on the line already?
