Wage Tax?

I have just renewed sturridges contract with liverpool and he wanted 76k pw but i biught it down to 72k pw and it said wage after tax = 32k pw. What does that mean? Where does the tax go? Am i paying him 72k pw to him or 32k pw? Someone please explain.

You're paying him £72k p/w, he's getting £32k p/w after he's paid the tax (to the government).
