So, a lot of pressure is building on Arsene Wenger at Arsenal, despite hitting a small form patch over the last couple of games, it looks like Arsenal are set to record yet another poor season in terms of league performance. Despite this most people now expect Wenger to stay at Arsenal with reports of a new 2 year contract seeming to indicate he could well be in the post until at least summer 2019.

However!

If we imagine a situation where the #WengerOut contingent of the club get their wish, who should take over the role of Arsenal manager? Many pundits and punters have their opinions but the only real way of knowing the answer is obviously to consult Football Manager.

Candidate #1 - Max Allegri - 7/2

The current bookies favourite for the role is Max Allegri although "favourite" is a subjective term with odds of 7/2. The Juventus gaffer has taken the side to the Champions League Final this season to take on defending champions Real Madrid who are looking to be the first side to retain the title in the current format. But how does Allegri get on at Arsenal?

Candidate #2 - Diego Simeone - 9/2

Coming in just behind Allegri is Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone who has taken the club from Madrid's noisy neighbours to a true Champions League force, while breaking the stranglehold that Barcelona and Real have on La Liga, even if just for one season. He fell at the last hurdle to Real twice in the Champions League and suffered another painful exit at their hands in this season's semi final. But can he do the same for Arsenal who are arguably in danger of obtaining noisy neighbour status if they don't change something at the club?

Candidate #3 - Thomas Tuchel - 10/1

Dortmund gaffer Tuchel has taken over the club at a difficult period when Bayern had reasserted their dominance strongly and teams such as RBL and Hoffenheim would emerge as new forces in German football. However, Tuchel has managed to lead Dortmund to this season's German Cup Final following a 2-3 victory over Bayern at the Allianz Arena and he has a real chance of giving Dortmund their first trophy since the 2011/12 league/cup double-winning season. Taking over a once dominant side who have fallen from their perch under a gaffer who had brought them so much success could easily be the Arsenal brief just as it was the Dortmund brief which attracted Tuchel to his current post.

Candidate #4 - Brendan Rodgers - 14/1

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has taken the Scottish Champions to a new level since his appointment in the summer and has reinvigorated a group of players who were average at best under previous management, arguably a skill which would lend itself well to any incoming Arsenal boss. If the Arsenal board are looking for a manager that can get the best out of players who seem low on confidence then perhaps the domestically unbeaten Rodgers could be the answer.

Candidate #5 - Eddie Howe - 14/1

Having taken Bournemouth from a League Two side to a firmly establish, exciting, Premier League side, Eddie Howe seems like he has earned a chance at managing a bigger side. The brand of football Howe has Bournemouth playing seems perfectly suited to Arsenal, with fast attacking football the preference for the Bournemouth manager. With so many in the country lamenting the "foreign import" of managers, perhaps Eddie Howe could be the first Englishman of the Premier League era to win a title?

Candidate #6 - Leonardo Jardim - 14/1

Set to land Monaco their first league title since the 1999/2000 season, Leonardo Jardim's exciting brand of attacking football has been on display for all of Europe this season as he's taken Monaco to the Champions League semi final while out-attacking Pep Guardiola's Manchester City along the way. It would be fitting if Wenger's eventual replacement had held the Monaco post just like Wenger himself had from 87-94.

Candidate #7 - Luis Enrique - 16/1

Outgoing Barcelona manager Luis Enrique may not be held in the highest regard at the minute given Barcelona's less than stellar performance in this year's Champions League, barely recovering from a 4-0 defeat against a faltering PSG side thanks to an attacking masterclass, then being rendered completely impotent by Max Allegri's Juventus. However, it's easy to forget that Luis Enrique guided Barcelona to successive league and cup doubles in 2014-15 and 2015-16, also lifting the Champions League trophy in 2014-15. The signings made during his tenure have failed to bed in and this perceived failing may have him trailing the other candidates when it comes to the bookmakers' odds.

Candidate #8 - Claudio Ranieri - 25/1

I'm sure nobody needs reminding why Claudio Ranieri appears on our list, the reigning Premier League Champions (At least for another few days) found himself out of work the very next season after performing the most incredible miracle in sporting history. A bit of a wildcard punt for whoever decides to hire him next, Ranieri had never lifted a top flight trophy as a manager before shocking the world with Leicester, you could have been forgiven for labeling him something of a choke artist who had held prestigious positions at the likes of Chelsea, Juventus, Inter and Monaco during his barren run. It'll be a punt for the Gunners if they were to look at Ranieri but it could certainly earn them a lot of goodwill with football fans of all colours.

Candidate # 9 - Ralph Hasenhuttl - 25/1

We're really entering outside punt territory with this one, RBL manager Ralph Hasenhuttl. Taking over the newly promoted side at the beginning of the 2016-17 season the Austrian manager has guided his side to 2nd place behind Bayern and ahead of German heavyweights Borussia Dortmund, playing an exciting free-flowing brand of football with a lot of young players, one could argue this is exactly the sort of manager that would make Arsenal an attractive prospect for emerging talents in world football. He could also bring along Naby Keita who has earned comparisons to Chelsea superstar N'Golo Kane, a type of player Arsenal have been in desperate need of for years.

Candidate # 10 - Sam Allardyce - 250/1
Coming in just below Sir Alex Ferguson (200/1) to take over after Arsene Wenger steps down, Sam Allardyce seems to have managed every team in England other than those with title aspirations. Admittedly I heard someone mention Big Sam on a football phone-in show and have absolutely no way to justify him getting the Arsenal job but maybe FM can help out the crazy caller?
