What affects a player's ability to learn preferred moves?

I don't get why some players are happy to learn some and others are really reluctant. (Aside from age) I have a regen with 19 technique, 19 long shots, 19 first touch, so I ask him to attempt first time shots and after 3 months, he fails.

If someone with those stats can't do it , who can?

I would assume it would depend on their versatility, determination, adaptability, professionalism, etc.

i think it's also got something to do with ambition.

and to do with your regen i think he'd need gone composure for that one.

So a load of hidden factors? That sucks. This guy is a god (world player of the year) and he has never tried to learn anything I've suggested until now, then he fails this.
