ehh, wrong thread?

1.) Stop trying to be a mod
2.) Read a page before commenting
3.) It's understandable if some people may not know the Basque region, I didn't until I went to Bilbao on holiday.

Bit harsh? The guys comment was completely random and unrelated to the topic. I don't see how asking someone if they've got the wrong thread is 'trying to be a mod'.

Anyway, I've never been Bilbao on FM before. Would be something that would interest me.

Until the Basque region get their independence from Spain, it will not be classed as a country, no matter how hard the ETA push, Spain won't be giving them their independence soon.

'Basque' is neither a nation nor does it have it's own football association like Wales or Scotland does. So I find this somewhat strange. If this has a real life connection, aren't there any juristical problems ? I mean we live in the Bosman football age, wouldn't any "non-basque" spanish player move to court if he wasn't allowed to play at a club in his own land ?

It's sort of unrealistic to expect people from another country would know the details of it. I don't expect foreigners to know the details of my own country and I certainly don't get angry about it.

There are no stupid questions, only stupid answers!

Lizarazu was born in France ,that makes him a french ,his parents are basques ,that means he has double citizenship

i did by a basque player and brought him to the arsenal squad. did good. he's a regen. now he'll move to Villarreal after the season ends.

Raikan007, but he doesn't know what is a BASQUE, not in the game, he don't realise that Basque people exist in the world. I don't negate the fact, that he asked and you gave him the answer, but people should have primary knowlegde.

My last post in this thread.

I suppose you know of every nation and ethnic group in the entire world right?

Oh the irony. Trying to mini-mod a mini-mod when he was right and you were wrong.

I don't think it's that bad to not know basques , some people don't give a **** about north ireland or wales outside of the english and commonwealth countries , basque people are a minority and their international weight is almost non-existant , tell me , do you care about burundi or swaziland ?

Ok, I know this is an old post, but I just saw it, and I would like to try and tell you what the Basque Country is, so maybe people would understand what playing with Athletic de Bilbao means.
I am an Athletic fan, and I am also Basque, from Bilbao. First of all, Athletic de Bilbao short name is Athletic, not Bilbao

The Basque country is a region from Spain and France, there are 7 provinces, 4 from Spain and 3 from France. The people who are born in this region do not have the nationality of Basque, that does not exist, they are spanish or french, and the player either plays for Spain or France.
The provinces are: Bizkaia, Gipuzkoa, Araba and Nafarroa for Spain, and Lapurdi, Nafarroa Behera, Zuberoa for France

Im not going to get into the political situation, you like it the way it is or you want independence, thats about it. The way things are it looks like its going to stay the way it is, it would be extremly dificult to be independent.

In football manager: The basque country is merely in the game for Athletic de Bilbao. The team can only sign player who have as a second nationality the Basque. In the real world it is the same, but with slight changes, during its hole history they have only played with Basque players (Javi Martinez), players who grew in the Athletic lower teams (Fernando Llorente), or players who have Basque heritage.

Gonzalo Higuain (Real Madrid), Diego Forlan (Atletico de Madrid) or Pablo Zabaleta (Man CIty) would be elegible to play for Athletic de Bilbao, even if they are from South America, but their (at least) grandparents are Basque. The problem? Athletic, and the fans, dont feel they are elegible because in reality the heritage stops in parents, even if it isnt really written down on paper, actually the rule is a tradition, its not a law, Athletic could buy foreign players, but we just dont want to, this is our tradition and we want it to stay like that, we are the only club in the wolrd that do this, and i think it is quite admirable to have played every season of La Liga and never have been relegated, the other only other two teams to do this: Real Madrid an Barcelona.

The way to play in football manager with this team is quite simple and preaty hard at the same time: Youngsters!!!! Keep an eye on the Basque youngster that come from the main Basque teams: Athletic, Real Sociedad, Osuasuna, Eibar, Alaves, etc...
That is the only way you can get gould players, if you train them, you only have a handfull of top players to buy when you start, most of them you already have them but the main are: Xabi Alonso, Ander Herrera, Aritz Aduriz, Mikel Arteta, Stephan Ruffier, Ignacio Monreal and Azpilikueta.

Ive read something about Lizarazu being French and elegible because his parents where Basque, that is wrong, Lizarazu is Basque, he was born in Saint-Jean-de-Luz, wich is in the French Basque Country. Another notable big player from the French part of the Basque Country is Didier Deschamps.
Rite now the biggest player from this area is probably Stephan Ruffier who plays for Monaco as a goalkeeper.

You mite think Athletic arent such a good team, but even if we rite now can only achive to get into the Europa League, we have one of the richest histories in spain, we have only 1 spanish cup less than Barcelona, 25 to 24. The maximum La Liga scorer is named after an Atheltic player, Pichichi, and there many many famous basque players in history, like Zarra, Zubizarreta...

I hope this helps even if it is in the tiniest way.
Maybe youll become an Athletic de Bilbao fan!!!

The whole Basque/Spain and for that matter Catalan nationality issue isn't what I would call primary knowledge, unlike for example knowing that there is a country called China!!!!
