When exactly do you start putting younger players into the starting 11?

Im having a bit of a problem- I know that you give them a couple of games when they are 17-19, but I feel like if I screwed up somewhere. I started giving Carlos Fierro limited gametime around 21 yrs old (Stupid french rules regarding non EU's) , and now he is one of my main strikers. But he is only listed at 3 star potential, when he was listed at 3 1/2 when i first got him. He is 22 right now, and is at 2 and 1/2 stars. Should i be worried? Can he pass 3 star potential if I keep playing him in every game?

if your club is gettin bigger and better the potential will go down as your clubs standards are higher so i wouldn't worry too much...i worried about that with everton...had some kids come through the system at 4 stars and only reached 3 stars by their early 20s...they still performed very well it's just i was a champions league team by then

I started Fierro in the second season,he was 17/18 and scored 46 goals in 40 starts as Aston Villa, ignore the potential it's just like marco said as the club is bigger potential goes down, for example on a Chelsea save some of the future best players in the world are only like 3.5 star potential.

I basically put them into my starting line up when they are consistently performing well in their other appearances. Not really a set age. On FM11 in my Aston Villa save I started playing Lucas Moura as an 18 year old because he was playing just as good as Stephen Ireland, and by the second season he was playing like the best AMC in the world. So just play them if they seem capable of competing at whatever level you are at.

Well, My reign at PSG has them as one of the biggest clubs in the world, so that could be it. I frankly would have started playing him earlier if Gameiro and my regen werent so **** good.

the only risk with playing youth is that they may not have the experience to take advantage of their skill set or they could get seriously injured which WILL hurt potential. ive had great physical wonderkids get knocked out for season and significantly lose their physical stats and never recover

What I do with young up and coming players is first of all control the reserves and play them in there. By controlling the reserves you can play with your style of play so the young players will get a feeling for your tactic. Once you feel the player has meant progress in the reserves, I normally play them from the start in a cup match vs a lower rated team. This means the player will be playing better standard of football then reserves football, but not as good as the league standard of football you're in. If you feel the player is doing well in the cup and reserves games, Time to put him on the bench and play start playing him last 15/20. I make sure I only bring them on if the points are in the bag as it takes the pressure of them.

Hope this helps :)

Until the player is 18 years old, have him in your first team and make him available for reserves. When he turns 18 years old give him about 20 min per game, then at 19 years old rotate him with your first choise player - each one plays a match. When he is 20 years old he is ready. This is what I do and so far this is brilliant.

You've obviously read what Raikan 007 has put

Yes I did, but since he was asking for help I asumed he didn't read Raikan's threat, so I told him the what the best system is.

i had a kid at fulham 2,5star som1 got injuried so had to use him stats improved so quick! after 2seasons his PA went up to 3.5stars.

My whole fulham team is pretty much youngsters linked to be the best in the world, ill take a few years of not winning anything for my super team in 5 years time

So the potential ability (how many stars out of 5) isn't 100% accurate? If you play them more, their potential ability will be higher?
