When to tutor young players?

I have a new regen that I want to get tutored. But I was wondering whether I should wait until he turns professional and starts getting some first team appearances under his belt or if I should just get him tutored right from the beginning.

Is it better if he gets tutored while playing first team games? Or tutored right at the beginning when he is still under a youth contract.
