Thats where I think the 'two teams' theory really works. It takes you a little bit to get a 2nd 11 who you really trust but once you do you just roll them in and out and everyone stays fresh which seems to be a big thing on FM.
It does look like it is working pretty well for you! I guess the hardest part is getting that balance right though so that you aren't suffering in Europe/League when compensating them!

Yeah the results usually suffer for a year or two whilst your sorting it all out. Once you have it in place though I find it works really well as you can plan out a few years and have your replacements ready in your cup squad as the 1st teamers reach retirement or you choose to sell.

By the way thanks all for helping this reach 25k views!!

Season 9 – January Roundup

Game 30 – Manchester City (h)

It is a measure of how far we have come since I took over at Tottenham that I viewed this result with dismay. We should have won and won easy today but City defended as though their lives depended on it only mustering 4 shots all game. Still, one point is better than no points.

Game 31 – Chelsea (a)

We were handed a really tough FA cup tie to begin our defence away at Chelsea. Being a cup game though I decided to stuck with my young guys and hope they pulled through. Chelsea on the other hand obviously don’t have as much to play for in the league so they sent out all their first teamers and it showed. Dybala tore us to shreds through them middle scoring two goals whist van Ginkel and Alfano got the others for Chelsea. We did manage a consolation goal though Trigueros but it didn’t make any difference.

Game 32 – Swansea (a)

Reserves out, first team back in and it showed. Bruma scoring a first half hattrick with Kane and Jones getting the others to give us a 5 nil lead at half time. Unfortunately though we didn’t get any more in the second half it didn’t make any difference as we ran out easy victors.

View attachment 246264

After the game I got the news that Erik Lamela has no broken the record for most assists for a single season for both Tottenham and the Premiership. Given that we are only around halfway through January this is an amazing achievement and I look forward to seeing how many more he can get between now and the end of the season.

Game 33 – Watford (a)

Crazy game. As the 75th minute approached this looked like another easy victory. We were up 4-1 and coasting and then Rocchi slid in late on Hazard in the box and earned himself a straight red as he was the last defender. From there the Belgian picked himself up to make it 4-2 and game on. We tried to readjust but our changes didn’t appear to have the desired effect as only 4 minutes later Watford scored again to make things 4-3! I ranted on the sideline telling our guys to tighten up and it worked as we managed to see out the remaining 10 minutes to get a very valuable 3 points.

Yet again we finish with an identical record to Manchester United but Klopp gets the award. Oh well we’re still in front where it really matters.

Table Roundup

Here we are at the end of January. Coming up to 3 quarters of the way through and we still have our 7 point gap to Manchester United. Tottenham haven’t won the Premier League or First Division since the 1960-61 season so there is a huge amount of desperation around us this season. Could this team be the ones to break 60 years of heartache? Only time will tell but we’ve put ourselves in the best possible spot to do so thanks to our defence which has been amazing this season. To only concede 16 goals thus far in 23 matches is incredible in a league as competitive as the Premier Division.

Chelsea's defence is fantastic, but their offence is terrible! Title is almost certainly yours!

Haha - not wrong just noticed that! 33 goals in 23 games is a pitiful return when they have Dybala and Costa still in the side!! You can tell Mourinho is still in charge!!

Season 9 – February Roundup

View attachment 903530

Game 34 – Liverpool (a)

One for the neutrals eh? Certainly not one for me. The turning point in this one was an injury to Phil Jones in the 60th minute. With Rocchi suspended this meant we were forced into using 20 year Sihle Baloye in the central defence role and he was exposed. It wasn’t his fault to be fair. I have been wanting to get him more game time but have been struggling to make it happen so to be thrown in the deep end at Anfield is a bit rough. 2 goals in the final 2 minutes was a bit hard to take but at least we picked up a point.

View attachment 246014View attachment 246013

At the other end of the pitch though Nangis was on fire for us today. 2 goals and 2 assists is a return I will take any day of the week.

View attachment 246012

View attachment 903530

Game 35 – Newcastle (h)

Off the back of the Liverpool result we made some changes here for Newcastle. In came Matusik as Nangis was tired and he played amazing today. 3 goals and a man of the match performance. Both Matusik and Nangis have given me confidence in the past couple of weeks that if anything happens to Kane we are still set in the long term up front.

Game 36 – Hull (h)

Another good win. Koolman actually put Hull ahead but we were 3-1 up 20 minutes later. The guys responded well to the challenge and as this was our 3rd day in a week we rotated some players in for this. Young Ross Blyth picking up his first goal for Tottenham from central midfield was a treat!

View attachment 246009

This made it 15 games in the league without defeat. We are starting to look like the title is well within our grasp.

View attachment 246008

View attachment 246006

Game 37 – Stade Malherbe Caen (a)

This was the away leg of our Europa League 1st rd knockout tie and we smashed, I mean absolutly smashed, Caen. Matusik had himself another good day as we effectively finished off this tie after only 90 minutes.

View attachment 903530

Game 38 – Stoke (h)

We are going from Strength to Strength here. Nangis picked himself up another double – seriously Kane is going to find it very hard to displace Nangis and Matusik when he comes back from injury. The damage was all done here within half an hour and then we sat and countered. Too easy.

View attachment 246001

View attachment 246006

Game 39 – Stade Malherbe Caen (h)

Given this was already in the bag we sent out an even higher number of youth players. Whilst they didn’t pick up the win they still game a very good account of themselves and were unlucky not to add to our aggregate beatdown of Caen.

Game 40 – Southampton (a)

Another good win against a tough opponent in Southampton. Nangis again got a double as he continued his good month. He has got to be a look for Player of the Month this time!

View attachment 245998

Awards Roundup

And so it proved as Nangis picked up the award after 6 goals this month in 4 league games. Incredibly good stuff from the young Frenchman.

Ok so I had 4 wins a draw this month so I can understand why I’ve been relegated to runner up status again in the Manager of the Month award…

The gap is now out to 10 points. There are 8 games remaining so 5 more wins guarantees us the title!! The excitement is really starting to build around New White Hart Lane!!

Season 9 - March Roundup

View attachment 903750

Game 41 - Bournemouth (a)

We started poor and and went behind early to a penalty after Rocchi was late to a challenge in the area in the 4th minute. A few words were had from the sideline and things then started to improve. Bournemouth though were now content to sit deep and try to catch us on the counter with their one goal load. We got one back in the 29th minute when Nangis, fresh off his player of the month win, rose highest to head home from an Akdeniz cross. Unfortunately though that would be the end of the scoring as Bournemouth successfully held us at bay for the remainder of the match. Fair play to them it was a good draw from their perspective.

Game 42 - Benfica (a)

We had Benfica away next in the first leg of our 2nd round Europa League knockout tie. We played really well. The backups played again today and again didn't let me down. A few of them look like they will really be pressing for first team spots next season. Praet opened the scoring mid way through the 2nd half with a neat finish before substitute Nangis powered one home late to really swing the tie in our favor.

View attachment 903750

Game 43 - Fulham (h)

Not sure what it is about Fulham but ever since I joined Tottenham they have always played us hard and today was no exception. Patrick Robert opened to scoring for the visitors early but we managed to come back though goals to Lamela and Nangis either side of half time to grab all 3 points. They may yet prove to be vital.

View attachment 245913

This win also assured us of Champions League football next season. To have qualified in March is a welcome sight, now we have to kick on and win this thing.

View attachment 245912

I was advised after securing Champions League football of our budgets for next season. ****** heck! No reason we shouldn't be right up the top again.

View attachment 245915

Game 44 - Benfica (h)

Well that was a little harder than it needed to be. Moncur got us off to a good start but after Benfice scored the next 2 goals it meant that if they scored another they would be ahead on away goals. Thankfully we managed to prevent that happening and scored 2 more of our own to seal our progression to the quarterfinals.

Game 45 - Manchester United (h)

With the match again Man U on the horizon I fielded the usual questions about my relationship with Klopp and I thought stuff it, I'm telling the truth. I wanted to humiliate him on the weekend like we are currently doing overall in the league.

View attachment 245909

We didn't manage to humiliate him but really to draw, after losing Jones in the 33rd minute, is pretty bad for him. Especially when we were actually a bit unlucky not to pick up all 3 points...

View attachment 903789

Game 46 - Everton (a)

Another good win that puts us one step closer to the goal of Premier League glory! Youngster Ross Blyth go the start in central midfield today and didn't disappoint with the opening 2 goals. Bruma and Eriksen got one each to round off a brilliant 4 nil win!

View attachment 245898

View attachment 903789

Game 47 - Sunderland (a)

In the lead up to this game all the talk centered on the fact that if other results went our way we could seal the premier league title with a win. Unfortunately our guys let all that talk go to their heads and played like ****. I wasn't happy with the 1-0 loss and let the guys have it after full time.

Game 48 - Ajax (h)

Next up was Ajax in the Europa League quarter final. We turned our performance around from the weekend and ran out easy 4 nil victors here. Nangis picked himself up a hat-trick today to again make the tie essentially over after the first leg.

View attachment 245894

View attachment 245895

Game 49 - Ajax (a)

With the FA cup semi's on the weekend we had a full week to prepare for our next game away at Ajax. The second leg proved little different from the first as we dominated from the outset and picked up an easy 3-1 win to make it 7-1 on aggregate. Domination.

View attachment 245893

View attachment 903789

Game 50 - Arsenal (h)

Next up was Arsenal. We had another chance to take out the title here but needed results to go our way still. We did our part, smashing Arsenal all over the park this one was over by half time as we had a nice 3 goal lead. Although we didn't add anymore in the 2nd half we still sent Arsenal packing with their tails between their legs and gave Tottenham fans bragging rights in the battle for North London for this season. Unfortunately we couldn't celebrate with the title as Man U picked up a draw to delay the inevitable.

Game 51 - QPR (h)

Prior to this one we got the news that Man U had dropped points in their Saturday game meaning we were the new Premier League champions!!

To the game at hand as the league was now in the bag I started the backups here and they didn't disrupt the carnival atmosphere that had descended on New White Hart Lane. A solid 2 nil win meant the fans were in full voice as the trophy was presented to us at full time.

Game 53 – Burnley (a)

League is in the bag now so the backups played here. We weren't too concerned at all here with the Eruopa Semi 2nd leg game on the horizon and it showed.

View attachment 245869

Game 55 – Burnley (h)

Today we had the 2nd leg of our Europa League Semi final and we sealed our passage to the final with aplomb. Harry Kane, who's spent a lot of time recently on the sidelines watching Nangis and Matusik tear it up in his absence decided to show the youngins how its really done. 4 goals today and a deserved man of the match award.

View attachment 245866

View attachment 903852

Game 56 - Burnley (a)

And just for something different today I thought we'd play Burnley, the 3rd time in the past 4 games we'd faced them. As I wanted to keep my starters fresh for their upcoming Europa League final and also didn't want to risk injury the backups played today and managed to grind out a win. Charlesworth scored the only goal of the game in the 3rd minute.

View attachment 245865

View attachment 903852

Game 57 - Chelsea (h)

On another day this might have been for all the marbles but seeing as the title is all wrapped up and we have the Europa league final in 3 days time we kept the backups in here and it showed against a class Chelsea outfit. Hazard and Dybala got on the scoresheet for Chelsea whilst Charlesworth scored again for us. No disgrace though in having a second string side beaten by that Chelsea team.

View attachment 245863

View attachment 245869

Game 58 - Schalke (n)

And here it was, the Europa League final. Ever since we sealed the Premiership we've set our sights on this. The opening half hour was relatively cagey as both teams felt each other out. I felt we were starting to get on top though so when Hector scored to give Schalke the lead I was a bit surprised. I asked for more from the guys and got it in spades.

First Lamela and then Bruma scored to give us the lead and just when it looked like we would be heading into the break a goal up Harry Kane popped up seconds from the whistle to give us a 2 goal cushion. From there we dominated and added goals in the second half from Kane again and Alli.

Great allround performance against a good side. No one can say we didn't deserve this!!

View attachment 245861

This meant we had won the double - a feat I am very proud of considering I've really only had a bit over 12 months in the job.

View attachment 245860

Table Roundup

So there it is, despite playing the backups to close out the season we still ended up with an 11 point gap to 2nd placed Manchester United. I feel we have a younger squad too than all of our nearest challengers so it will be interesting to see what moves they make to catch up.

Season 9 – Offseason Roundup

First up this offseason I made it a priority to get the Board to reinvest in the club. Our youth facilities can't be improved any more so the only thing we could improve is the training facilities. The Board is now going to spend another 5ish million pounds updating certain aspects of it so it is considered World Class.

View attachment 245855

Speaking of world class that is now what the media has apparently determined my reputation to be after our latest triumphs.

Eriksen was voted in as the Tottenham fan's Player of the Year. This was no surprise as he received the highest ever rating in the premiership for a any player since such stats have been recorded.

It also made sense then that Eriksen was voted English Footballer of the Year for his efforts in the league and was also selected in the English Players' Premier Division Select along with Phil Jones, Lorenzo Rocchi, Dele Alli and Benito Nangis. I was surprised to see Nangis get in, I was also very surprised to not see Bruma and Lamela in the side as I feel they have been fantastic.

Bruma was surprisingly then selected as the Players' Player of the Year and Nangis selected as the Players'Young Player of the Year. Great year for the Tottenham players and I hope to see just as strong a showing next year as well.

Ok guys, I'm going to put this story away for a little bit now. I've found the last little bit a slog to get through and just aren't enjoying the save as much anymore. I may come back to it but I'm going on a little hiatus for a while (don't worry I'll still be keeping an eye on everyone else's stories). When I come back though I am contemplating a little project that's been in the back of my mind for some time now so stay tuned.

At least you left it when Mr Burnett succeeded, I left McKenzie stuck in Scandinavia! I desperately look forward to your next story.

Congrats on the double, it's a fitting bookend to your story. Can't wait to see what happens next.
