Hi guys,

I have been playing FM throughout it's years love the stuff but this is the first time i have ever found myself falling out of love with the game. This is due tactics which seem to work well for half a season and you think great this is the one then after half a season or one season i now find don't work and get thrashed 3-0 or more and get the sack. Is it me or is this A.I. thing in the game **** as any team in real football usually sticks to a set formation and wins!(if its good). So basically this is a cry for help as i really need to find a tactic that works not just for half a season but forever. Is it too much to ask? anyway guys any help would be a great help.

How good manager are you if you only can handle the ups and not the downs. It is a challenge to overcome the downs. I always say, it doesn't matter how good your tactic is, and how good your squad, training and squad morale is the key. Figure out a training which brings the most of your players to play close to there potential (All is impossible), bring in good staff members, interact with managers by saying, for example, that you wish the best team will win or that you don't have confidence in your squad, so the players will disagree and are determined to show you what they are worth. And go on, millions of possibilities.

And remember, setting opposition instructions before the match can sometimes be the difference of having 3 points or zero, just keep listening what your assistant advices you.

one tactic is actually impossible, because you can play a tactic that suits wide playing teams which will in turn be weaker against narrow playing teams, you've certainly seen that while british football is most often 442 direct, soyuthern teams are playing much higher on the pitch, etc... read TTF and make one tactic for each opponent, and seeing the difficulty of the game that still won't allow you to win every single match

Thanks guys for the feedback, I think i just love the older versions as i could always find 1 tactic that would beat most teams and that for me was why i loved the game. Now it looks as though you need to spend hours on playing around 5 games! looks as though i could be called lazy. I've had a read of that TTF and it goes into so much depth which is good but i just love switching the game on for a few hours and playing as many games as possible. I was just hoping someone would add a killer tactic but hey probably dreaming there. Cheers guys.

Important is to have a solid weapon which your team is feared by opponents of. You can never defend and attack the same time, and create 20 chances every match, and stop creating opponents from creating chances.

I train and instruct my players not to hold back, at all times. I only instruct my players to always tight mark, hard, weaker foor, and tight marking (Opposition instructiond), a players who can potantially score or create chances. The rest is not important. Works perfect vs similiar club of your level. Bigger clubs, better quality clubs, however, is always risky. With Everton nowadays opponents create like 15 a 17 chances a match, with most of them off target, and not anything near to be a danger. Me, however, try to focus on one good chance, one good move, one goal, and maybe more. That is my weapon. Look at Hiddink, his history, very impressive, don't you think. Always focused on one weapon.

That's because it's become more realistic, mate.

back in the day, like you say, you could find a killer formation and win-win-win, but in FM09 you get out as much as you put in. I would advise finding 2 tactics that work at home, and 2 away, saving them and then switching it up during the games if they're not working etc.

Also take the time to set up attacking corners and free kicks, because that can often be the difference between 1 and 3 points.

I find that tactic far too risky, but hey, if it works for you, then go for it. I prefer, like I said in my post above, to have a couple of formations with different focuses so I can switch things up at will and catch the opposition off guard.

I also like to have a team with a lot of pace, and I always try to keep 4 at the back, especially against better clubs, but you can't always help that.

I play "Valencia 1997-1999", posted here on forum, the second version.

I disagree. This version of FM is, in my honest opinion, broken.

  • Opposition are extremely clinical - even the weaker teams.
  • MC and AMC's will always get poor ratings unless they score.
  • Opposition goalkeepers always have the games of their lives.

Unless those issues are sorted out no matter how solid your tactics are you will always draw or lose more games than you should.

Totally agree lads, gonna have to look into the TTF properly, so frustrating, tried almost every tactic going. Not a beliver in changing tactics on a weekly basis, I like to set a system up and get my teams playing that way, as fergie does at man utd!!!more often than not 442 is played (currently whipping derby in real life 3 nil with the reserves out), have found this difficult to do in this new game, any suggestions?

Stevie

Agreed, I found it weird how these things keep happening to me but I've come to the conclusion that my mids aren't playing bad, it's definately the game.

I kinda agree with lee, its not normal to bang 4 or 5 balls to the posts every game, and if by some sorcellery you can bang them inside the goalkeeper will be iker casillas that precise day I think its a bit to much and needs fixing in new patch 'if someone knows when its coming out) and funnier, even if the forwards score they still have like 7.1 because they failed to make a 100 per cent perfect passing and finally there is the issue of arsenal and barça going through the game unbeaten season by season.

I think this version of FM is maybe not to my taste, can i just say i have loved all the ones before it but this one just seem to have more bugs and problems in it than ever before or is this just me getting older and starting to winge more? anyway just got the sack again from Newcastle this time using four different tactics 2 for home and two away which in my first season got me fininshed in 6th but second season syndrome gets me the sack eh(with players like Bojan, Keirrison, barzagli, ledesma)! Cheers for all the comments.

Hard game? My team has been cursed by some kind of gypsy family, 'couse I usually hit the posts like 4-5 times per match, like Aragones said.. One game I was losing to Chelsea by 3 - 0 and in 10 minutes, when I told my team to attack at all costs, I hit the posts EIGHT times, and scored none.

This isn't real, hehe.

Agree with you on all those points, especially the opposition keeper having the game of their lives. When Boaz Myhill has 22 saves there is something wrong. I've also noticed the "post problem" as well, although I hit crossbar much more often than post... usually crossbar 3-4 times a game and post 1-2(wh)

The post IS a magnet Robinho could of got the winner bout 5 times for man city. It was perfectly placed shot in corner going in and hit the post....:@

All out attack is completely un effective lol it makes absolutly no difference. Ive been drawing one nil against a weak team and went 3 upfront and all out attack with 20 minutes to go and not had one attack.

I thought I was just being really unlucky hitting the crossbar and post so many times in each game but after reading this I have to agree it's a little broken. I'm guessing there won't be a patch untill after the transfer window, if at all for the time being?
