Why cant i sign Beckham on 1 year contract

Basically what the title says. I put a bid in for Beckham, it got accepted and got to the contract bit and it says he wants a 1 year contract. Its 2009 and the least i can sign him til is 2011. Help??

You cant help it sometimes but maybe after his contract is going to expire he may agree to an extension

14th September means that the transfer window has closed already, right?

Which means that the year has technically started for him, and it will likely not include the remainder of that year for his contract, instead focusing on the one after.

That made sense when I wrote it.

Transfer window closed, so you will sign him in jan 2010. jan 2010 till 2011 is the 1 year contract you wanted, right?
