Why does everyone think you MUST have Hamachi for a network game?

No-one, where does anyone say hamachi must be used? Please show me the post where it says Hamachi MUST be used.

It is reccomended by most network gamers as it's easier to control who is allowed to play when you are hosting, and it means you don't have to go give your IP address away to strangers.

Everyone who wants to join a network game - they think that Hamachi is the only way to play a network game, so obviously someone, somewhere has put that in their heads

Read above for the reasons why it's reccomended, but nowhere has it ever been posted that Hamachi must be used. Combine that with the fact that FM's in built network game features are at best unreliable and inconsistent.
