Ajax appoint unknown Coach!

After the sudden departure of Ajax legend Frank de Boer at the weekend, the Ajax board have moved swiftly in appointing the unknown Englishman Alexander McInnes as Head Coach of the first team. In what is seen as a shock move among the majority of the Ajax fanbase there is a current sense of unease in appointing a Coach with such little experience. The 25 year old McInnes who hails from Southampton is a self proclaimed fan of Ajax having followed the team for many years, so in his eyes this is the dream move. McInnes will be conducting a press conference at the Amsterdam Arena in the coming days.

In his press conference McInnes has underlined his understanding at the concern among fans but has tried to put their mind at ease. Having followed and studied the club for many years he has a sound knowledge of how the club is run and how the fans expect it to be so, along with the tactics and exciting style of football. The new Ajax coach did not give much away but it seems that he will be appointing his own Director of Football and another Coach to manage the Ajax 2 team, both of whom are rumoured to have been involved with the club in the past.

McInnes' first was to list Serbian attacker Miralem Sulejmani on the transfer list. The Serbian misfit is the highest earner at the club and is known to be a disruptive figure. With his contract running out, cashing in seems to be the best bet.

Vermeer out for 4-6 weeks

Kenneth Vermeer was today ruled out of action for over a month after breaking a finger in a training session at De Toekomst. McInnes is not fully convinced by Jasper Cillessen or Mickey van der Hart as being able to step up to first team duties and has moved fast in securing a season long loan for Tottenham Hotspur Goalkeeper, Heurelho Gomes. Gomes is no stranger to the Eredivise having previously played as No.1 for rivals PSV Eindhoven before his move to England. It is said that Gomes will be starting between the sticks against PSV in the upcoming Dutch Super Cup clash between the two.

Ajax splash the cash!

Ajax have today announced the signing of Netherlands international striker Ricky van Wolfswinkel from Sporting Lisbon for a fee of £8.500.000. McInnes is said to have been an admirer of the player for some time and is delighted to have signed the player to a long term deal. Van Wolfswinkel is a clinical striker who has been likened to former Ajax and current Schalke striker, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Ajax fans are delighted with the move. The player could make his debut away to Roda JC.

Rearguard action too good for Ronaldo & Co.

Special plaudits to the young Stefano Denswil who was vital in nullifying the Madrid attack. The young defender is having a great start to his Ajax career, having the chance to start more regularly after injuries to Moisander and Alderweireld.

Ajax hot prospect focus

Branco van den Boomen or 'Branco of the Trees' as is the English translation. A 17 year old central midfielder with a superb range of passing and long shooting has been breaking his way in to the Ajax first team this season. As is tradition at the Amsterdamsche club with bringing through young players, Branco looks set to have a very bright future. Keep and eye out for this young lad.

Ajax let 2 goal lead slip at Amsterdam ArenA

View attachment 305581

Manager Alexander McInnes was left fuming on Saturday night as he saw his team twice give up a two goal lead to FC Groningen at home in the Eredivisie. Along with the defensive lapses Ajax also had a Derk Boerrigter goal disallowed after the Referee's assistant belatedly flagged for offside. McInnes let his feelings be known in the post-match interview and has since been warned about future comments by the Dutch FA. On a brighter note, Branco van den Boomen got his first goal and assist for Ajax. McInnes also hinted for people to keep their eyes on Ajax in the next few days...

Ajax announce the signing of Ronaldinho!

Today Ajax have announced on their official website that they have come to an agreement with former World Player of the Year, Ronaldinho de Assis Moreira. The transfer will take effect at the end of his current contract with Atletico Mineiro at the end of December. Ronaldinho has previously played for Gremio, Paris Saint Germain, Barcelona, AC Milan, Flamengo and Mineiro as well as starring in World Cups and Copa Americas for the Brazil national team. Despite being 32 the Ajax management feel that he still has a lot to offer the club and are very excited for him to join up with the squad during the Eredivisie winter break.

Ajax defeat Ajax...

In what was a very strange draw, the Ajax 2 team reached the third round and were pitted against none other than their 'Parent' team. In what was an odd occasion the Ajax 1 team progressed in the cup after a 4-1 victory.

Ajax taught yet another lesson by The Old Lady (UEFA Champions League Round 4 Group Stage)

McInnes and Cruijff were both left pulling their hair out after conceding 3 almost identical headed goals from set pieces to Juventus. Juve's aerial dominance was obvious throughout despite Ajax taking a shock lead through Ricky van Wolfswinkel and Ajax were made to pay by falling asleep in their penalty box. Their current progress in the Champions League is stuttering and is looking more than likely that they will have 3rd place and the Europa League to rely on by the end of this group stage.

Fantastic Four again as Ajax sweep PSV aside

Tonight Ajax continued their unbeaten run in the Eredivisie by smashing four goals past a lackluster PSV. Ajax started with a relatively inexperienced team with players such as Schenk, Veltman, Lukoki and van den Boomen starting in place of more senior players. This turned out to be a smart move as the energy levels Ajax showed inevitably gained them an important win in Amsterdam. This win now sees McInnes' boys go 3 points clear of PSV at the top of the table with Ajax having two games in hand. This could turn out to be an important result in the title race.

Ajax again nullify Madrid

On a wet and windy December evening in Madrid, the youthful Ajax defence once again kept Ronaldo quiet. The game finished 0-0, as it did in Amsterdam but the two points gained against the Spanish champions proved not enough for the Amsterdammers to progress in the UEFA Champions League. Ajax finished on 6 points after 2 heavy defeats to Juventus, a draw and a big win against FC Nordsjaelland and the aforementioned two draws to Madrid. Ajax's European journey is not yet over though as by finishing third in their group they will now play in the Europa League competition. McInnes was quoted in an interview with 'De Telegraaf' saying "It is disappointing not to be able to progress in the Champions League and we only have ourselves to blame after some mistakes but it is definitely a learning curve for such a young team trying to make their mark in Europe. Now we will focus on the Europa League, a competition which is often dismissed as a secondary competition but for me it is a trophy that is there to be won and I would love to do so".
