FABIO BORINI COMPLETES MOVE TO ROMA

Liverpool forward, Fabio Borini, has completed his transfer to 'World League Second Division' side Roma.

The Italian moves back to Italy for a reported £9million, £1.5million less than Liverpool bought him for 2 seasons ago.

The forward failed to break into Liverpool's first team last season but did have some success in England when he made a loan move to Sunderland. Borini scored 7 goals on Wearside and helped the club survive Premier League relegation.

There looks to be further movement on Mersyside in the next couple of days to so as Liverpool have arranged a press conference for tomorrow to announce two further signings.

Liverpool and PSG kick off their opening game of the newly formed 'World League Premiership' with a 0-0 draw with neither side doing enough to come away with all three points. Both teams had plenty of chances but poor finishing from both sides ensured the game ended 0-0.

Liverpool started with new signings, Nathaniel Clyne, Nicolas Otamendi, Nigel De Jong, Sami Khedira, Kevin Volland whilst Christian Benteke started as a lone striker.

And it was the big Belgiun who had a hat full of chances but couldn't get past the impressive Sirigu in goal. PSG started the game brighter with chances falling to Ibrahimovic and Cabaye early on, both missing the target from close range.

View attachment 230721

Just after the half hour mark David Luiz brought the ball out from defence and played a brilliant ball forward to Lavezzi who looked certain to score but a fingertip save from Mignolet thwarted the Argentine. Liverpool then finished the half well with plenty of possession but without really testing Sirigu in goal.

Liverpool then started the second half by far the stronger side and had early chances with Christian Benteke forcing Sirigu into three very good saves. But it was Kevin Volland who came closest as he put his effort wide after finding himself 1-1 with the keeper.

The game was pretty even with neither side doing quite enough to win the game.

View attachment 230728Not on this display! Liverpool will just be happy with a mid-table finish while PSG should really be aiming for a top 4 finish. Although based on this showing, both sides will need to improve in order to match these ambitions.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Salvatore Sirigu

Post-match reaction:

Liverpool boss - Brendan Rodgers:

"I thought we played very well today after a shaky first half we really pulled it around in the second half. The fact that their 'keeper got man of the match tells you everything."

"We just need to look at our finishing if we're to improve. I was very imressed with the new signings, especially Nathaniel Clyne and Nigel De Jong, who broke up everything."

Results elsewhere ...

The stand out result in game-week one was Barcelona beating AC Milan 7-0 with Messi bagging 6 goals!

Everywhere else it was pretty low scoring and tight, 4 draws out of 7 games shows how tight this league will be for everyone (apart from Barcelona).

Chelsea come back from one goal down to claim first victory of season.

Chelsea overturned a one goal deficit to record their first victory of the season in a very even game against Liverpool.

It was Liverpool who made the brighter start and indeed took the lead after just 12 minutes through Mario Balotelli. Nigel De Jong found the Italian at the edge of the box who turned Bonucci far too easily and fired past Petr Cech.

View attachment 230354

Chelsea then took control and wasted chances with Hazard and Diego Costa being the biggest culprits.
But Diego Costa then broke the deadlock on the half hour mark with a very good finish at the near post. Eden Hazard got past Moreno to the byline and put the cross in which was met by Costa with a superb finish.

The game was then very even with only a few chances for either side.

The game started to then peter out until the 80th minute when Liverpool introduced Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge, who made his first appearance since returning from an injury picked up in pre-season.

It was then Daniel Sturridge who had a glorious chance with just 5 minutes to go when he rifled a shot towards goal from 12 yards out, Cech was equal to it though and managed to tip the effort wide.

Rodgers: Terry winner is gutting

Then in added on time, a long throw came into the Liverpool box by Azpilicueta which skimmed the head of Martin Skrtel and found John Terry at the far post, who couldn't miss from just yards out. This made it 2-1 with just a minute or so to go.

MAN OF THE MATCH - Diego Costa

POST MATCH REACTION:

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers:

"It's so disappointing to lose in the way we have today. We've matched Chelsea all game today and had chances to even win it.

But a miss timed header from Skrtel had cost us today. It was good to see Sturridge back today who, as expected, looked a bit off the pace but still could have and should have put us 2-1 up.

Goals galore as Liverpool and Arsenal share the points.

A late Christian Benteke equaliser ensures the points were shared here in what was a pulsating game of football with two very attacking sides.

The scoring was opened by Danny Welbeck just after the half hour mark. Before then it was Arsenal who were the better side and looked far more dangerous than the home side. Welbeck opened the scoring after good work from Ozil down the left wing, his shot was then deflected right into the path of Welbeck who finished low into the corner to make it 1-0.

Alexis Sanchez then doubled Arsenals lead minutes into the second half. Again Arsenal had their fair share of good fortune here, Welbeck shooting from 12 yards out and hitting the post, the ball then fell straight to Sanchez who had an open goal at his mercy from just yards out.

View attachment 230240

Just as the game looked to be finished with Arsenal claiming the victory, they gave the home side a chance when Koscielny fouled Coutinho in the penalty area to commit a penalty just before the hour mark. Sturridge scored his first of the season by sending the 'keeper the wrong way. Sturidge had earlier come on as a substitute after Balotelli was forced off through injury early on.

Despite Liverpool getting back into the game, Arsenal quickly regained their 2 goal lead when Danny Welbeck completed his brace. This time Sanchez played a ball over the top which Welbeck got on the end of and finished well past Mignolet.

Liverpool once again came back though with Nathaniel Clyne making it 3-2 with a very good finished from the right hand side of the box.

Arsenal then controlled the game well and looked to go home with all 3 points. That was until Benteke grabbed a last minute equaliser. Clyne beat Monreal down the right wing and put in a brilliant cross to the far post where the big Belgium was waiting.

The game finished 3-3 and was a great advert for the 'World League Premiership'.

DOUBLE INJURY NEWS ANNOUNCED BY LIVERPOOL.

Liverpool have today announced injuries to both Philippe Countinho and Mario Balotelli.

Philippe Coutinho has been ruled out for up to 3 weeks with a twisted ankle. The injury was sustained in the game against Arsenal on Saturday despite the Brazilian playing on.

Mario Balotelli meanwhile is ruled out for up to 3 months with a torn hamstring. Balotelli also picked up his injury in the game against Arsenal when he collided with Mertersacker.

This will mean Daniel Sturridge will have to play a bigger part than manager Brendan Rodgers had hoped. Englands number 9 has only just recovered from an injury himself. Rodgers had planned on easing Sturridge back into action but it doesn't look like that will now be possible.

LIVERPOOL CLAIM FIRST WIN OF SEASON

Liverpool claim their first win of the season after beating Benfica 2-1 in a very confident and assured victory.
Liverpool dominated right from the off against a struggling Benfica side who have lost their opening three fixtures, conceding 10 goals in the process.

Liverpool's dominance paid off early on when new signing Kevin Volland scored his first goal for the club to open the scoring. Henderson teed up Volland on the edge of the area who finished brilliantly into the top corner.
Liverpool then continued to dominate and create chances with both Adam Lallana and Daniel Sturridge missing good chances.

View attachment 229770

Sturridge then made amends by doubling their lead with a powerful finish after play and cross by Nathanial Clyne down the right wing.

Rodgers had been forced into starting Sturridge after the injury to Balotelli has ruled him out for the next 3 months or so. Sturridge looked good and lasted all 90 minutes without any problem.

Benfica then gave Liverpool a scare by getting a goal back with 15 minutes left to play. Rodriguez managed to get in front of Sakho to meet Gaitans near post cross and beat Mignolet in goal.
Benfica never really threatened after this though with Liverpool managing the game very well.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Daniel Sturridge

POST MATCH REACTION:

Liverpool Boss Brendan Rodgers:

View attachment 229769

"I'm delighted to get our first win of the season and to have played so well is even more pleasing. I thought we managed the game brilliantly from start to finish".

"Daniel (Sturridge) getting 90 minutes is also very pleasing. I'm delighted for the lad, he's worked really hard and deserves this. Him scoring the winner just makes it even better for everyone concerned".

August 2014

So, Gameweek 4 brought then end of the first month!

View attachment 229768

After 4 games we recorded 5 points and find ourselves in 9th position.

I know it's very early stages but this is about where I expect us to finish, although the first few games really showed how tough this league will be.

The main thing to notice here is the form of Barcelona! I mean just look at their results ...

View attachment 229767

4 wins from 4 and a ridiculous 17 goals scored! With Messi scoring 12 of them!

View attachment 229766

The form of Lionel Messi is already breathtaking. He's scored more goals than any other club has so far, with Chelsea and Bayern being 4 goals behind him!

Unsurprisingly, Lionel Messi won the player of the award!

View attachment 229765

With 12 goals and an average rating of 9.02 in just 4 games made this an obvious choice.

Anyway, back to Liverpool and our player of the month ...

NATHANIEL CLYNE

GOALS - 1

Nathaniel Clyne has made a brilliant start to his Liverpool career, showing great pace getting forward but also looking solid defensively.

He recorded two assists (against Arsenal and Benfica) and also scored his first goal for the club (also against Arsenal).

3 in 3 for Sturridge as Liverpool draw

Daniel Sturridge scored his 3rd goal in 3 games after coming back from injury to ensure the points were shared between Corinthians.

Sturridge opened the scoring from a very tight angle after Kevin Volland had set him up nicely. Sturridge then finished into the bottom corner to leave the keeper with very little chance.

Their lead only lasted 7 minutes though as Corinthians then equalised through Emerson Sheik who hit an unstoppable effort from 25 yards out. Sheik found himself with half a yard of space after sidestepping Nathaniel Clyne, he then hit an unbelievable strike which hit the crossbar and bounced over the line.

View attachment 229698

The goal was one of very few efforts Corinthians had on goal as Liverpool took control and had countless chances, Volland and Firmino missing countless chances between them.

The best chance of the game however fell to Adam Lallana midway through the second half. Firmino played a wonderful ball between full back and center back which led Lallana to be one on one with the 'keeper. Lallana blazed his effort over the bar however and will be really disappointed to miss such a chance.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Daniel Sturridge

Late goals sink valiant Liverpool

2 late goals scored by Marcelo and Christiano Ronaldo undid a very good Liverpool side who battled well against far superior opposition.

Liverpool were never expected to match Real Madrid player for player but they did play very well and kept Real quiet until they took the lead on the 71st minute through left back, Marcelo.

Real had numerous chances before this but a superb defensive display, especially from goalkeeper Simon Mignolet, ensured the game stayed goalless until late on.

Marcelo's opener came as James Rodriguez cross in a freekick where Ronaldo won the header which found its way to an unmarked Marcelo who finished with ease under very little pressure from any Liverpool player.

View attachment 229692

Liverpool then threw caution to the wind and created a couple of very good chances with Daniel Sturridge missing a guilt edge chance as well as Kevin Volland also going close.

Real's second came on the counter attack, with Liverpool bombing forward Toni Kroos intercepted a poor pass and managed to set free youngster, Martin Odegaard who ran 30 yards with the ball and fed through Ronaldo brilliantly who was now one on one with Simon Mignolet, there was always going to be one winner ... and it was Ronaldo who made it 2-0 and put the game beyond doubt.

MAN OF THE MATCH: Christiano Ronaldo

View attachment 229693

POST MATCH REACTION:

LIVERPOOL BOSS BRENDAN RODGERS:

"I'm proud of the lads to compete with one of the best sides in the world. We matched them for 70 odd minutes until Marcelo scored a very fortuitous goal which we should have defended much better".

"Mignolet was brilliant today, he deserves praise for his display today because people are very eager to judge some of his performances".

League Cup Second Round

View attachment 229637

A good win her by the boys!

There are two cup competitions in this new database, the League Cup and the League Trophy. With us only looking like a mid-table side in the league (at best), I wouldn't mind taking at least one of these competitions my all in the hope of making the latter stages.

The trick with this competition is all in the draw, I could draw Barcelona, Bayern or Real Madrid at any round.

We didn't really play well here at all anyway, 0-0 at full time and we entered extra time where we finally took control of the game. James Milner opened the scoring after 102 minutes before Daniel Sturridge continued his good goal scoring record by doubling the lead.

Thats now 4 goals in his 5 games he's played this season for the injury prone striker.

Sporting Lisbon got one back to make it an interesting finish but we managed to hold firm and see out the win.

This takes up into the 3rd round of the League Cup.

September 2014

Our league cup success was to be the last game played in September ...

View attachment 229635

September was a really short month in terms of games played.

We only played 2 leagues games throughout the whole game, one draw and one defeat. Therefore, after only picking up 1 point all month, we inevitably slipped down the league slightly.

We are now in 12th place with 6 points, only 2 above the relegation zone.

Barcelona kept up their good form by winning both their league games during September, scoring another 9 goals in the process.

Our player of the month:

DANIEL STURRIDGE

View attachment 229633

AVERAGE RATING - 7.53

Sturridge continued his good form since returning from injury. He only played in 3 games this month but still managed to score twice and recorded an average rating of 7.53.

Sturridge was brilliant against Corinthians and Sporting but really struggled against a quality Real Madrid side.

Late Tevez strike sinks Red's

In a very even match Liverpool and Juventus share the spoils thanks to a late Carlos Tevez strike.

The game began very evenly with Liverpool having the better start and missing glorious chances through Sturridge and Volland.

Liverpool's early dominance paid off just before half time through Kevin Volland who made up for missing good early chances.

He capitalised on a good effort from Daniel Sturridge which was well saved by Buffon, the save though fell straight to Volland who fired in the empty net.

Liverpool's lead though only last a couple of minutes though Cacares levelled in added time. A long throw came in from Chiellini which found Cacares who headed into the top corner to level just before half time.

Liverpool regroup well though to re-take the lead just one minute into the second half. Liverpool won an early corner which was taken by Henderson, the corner found Khedira who shot from the edge of the box. The shot was saved again by Buffon and fell straight to Sakho who slotted home from just a yard out.

View attachment 229607

Liverpool continued to control the game and boss possession but Juventus always looked dangerous on the break.

Juventus' equaliser came on the counter attack as Paul Pogba broke up play and marched forward with the ball and set up Carlos Tevez who finished well past the onrushing Mignolet.

View attachment 229609

Both sides had late chances to steal the win but both missed good chances with Philippe Coutinho coming closest late on.
