voted for Zidane, Pele & Maradona, even though I believe Zidane was definetely the best player ever
 
I think it has to be Pele or Maradona -- simply because they achieved greatness whilst getting lumps kicked out of them! Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi are great in the modern era, but could they do it with two defenders kicking their hamstrings and another grabbing their dangly bits -- I'm not sure?

Zidane easily the best player of my generation. However if Lionel Messi can continue his development/form for the next 7 or 8 years then my vote would be on him. Haven't seen enough of Pele/Maradone or Di Stefano to vote for them.
 
if anyone says cristiano ronaldo ill kill them. yes he is an excellent player, but hes not up there with cryff, van basten, zidane, let alone pele, maradona, etc. some people actually think hes a true great
 
The best player ever was clearly FERENC PUSKAS ( carried his nation and should of won the world cup if it wasn't for the cheating germans breaking his ankle and he still played in the final with it!!, still was a goal machine at madrid when he emmigrated at the age of 34...try to see a striker last as long as him scoring hattricks and beyond against everyone with ease ) He simply destroyed evreyone even england twice scoring 7 goals againt us. No one comes close. I've voted for zidane as he's the best on that list

Where's shearer? he definitley deserves to be on that list, what about aldair? still playing at the grand old age of 43.. i voted for rivaldo in the poll but shearer would get my vote really
 
Can not believe the legend that is George Best isn't an option, one reason I suppose he doesn't stand out is due to being Northern Irish and never got to show his class on the international scene, no dig at Irish people by the way
 
Messi has the potential to be. No chance in it being Larsson, good player, not that good, Imean how can he outrank Kenny Dalglish and George Best :/

to be fair no one here even really remembers modern footballers like Maradona, let alone players from the '50s.
with regards to players from that legendary hungarian side, and Austrian team of the '30s we can only go by what has been said.
also playing to that age back in the day was actually fairly common considering the lack of 'professionalism' in the game. in fact the phrase professionalism was an insult aimed at Don Revie's Leeds team

Pele no dount about that but to due to the present day game becoming ever more tactical,its hard to say who is the best player currently
