Maradona without a doubt. O.K he loses points for being a druggie and a cheat but during the eighties he was magical. Amazing control and balance, fantastic left foot which most of todays players cant use. Dragged a useless team in Italy to be one of the top teams single handedly. He also played for Tottenham in Ossie Ardiles testimonial match.

too hard what i would say though is that messi is the best non-retired player ryt know

V true. So many players missing! Lee even left Best off there but many people have said him.

for me, in terms of pure -going past players etc, its Best or Maradona. But then in terms of controlling a game-or being a one man team-theres Zidane, Cruyff, Di Stefano apparently, Pele, and Maradona again.
 
you know i dont think it would be stupid to say steven gerrard he's the perfect modern day footballer hes carried liverppol through so many seasons scored amazing goals amazing passes hes played for one club his whole carrer and i mean the 3-3 final with milan was the stuff of dreams, gerrard is the most amazing footballing story, so i'll say the best player i've seen play fully, Steven Gerrard!

lol same applied to raul with a couple CL more and he doesn't dive but who gives a f? Zidane!!!! The legend!!!
 
Zidane simply because hes the best player who im old enuff to remember.
Di Stefano was great from what I've seen and so was Maradonna but Pele never proved himself in a top league.
 
Some of the best players were spread among teams all across Brazil, for example Didi, Garrincha, Zagallo and Jairzinho played in the Rio de Janeiro League, Tostão, Piazza and Dario played in the Minas Gerais League and Figueroa in the Rio Grande do Sul League. In the São Paulo league while Footballers like Carlos Alberto, Zito, Pepe and Gilmar ( this one from the 1960s ) played with Pelé for Santos; there were however many others playing for Santos' rivals like Rivelino, Dino Sani, Luizinho and later Garrincha by Corinthians; Gérson, Pedro Rocha and Pablo Forlán by São Paulo FC; Félix, Djalma Santos and Zé Maria by Portuguesa and Leão, Luís Pereira, Leivinha, Julinho, Vavá and Ademir da Guia by Palmeiras just to mention a few. All of these great teams and players played against Pelé between 1957 and 1974.

Sounds like he played in a pretty decent league to me.
 
Decent for attacking players but few defenders. Which is why he scored so many goals. I'mnot sure how many but I seem to remember it being 120 goals one season. Don't know that for a fact tho.

Ronaldinho could have been one of the best players in the world, he was just unfortunate. If cristiano Ronaldo had continued his 42-goal form this season and next I think some people may have felt different about his inclusion. Messi, like Ronaldinho did, has the potential to be one of the best players ever
