You should try to lower the wage to 220K p/w and lock it then make proposal to him, he might agree your terms, It's happened to me many times

This is exactly the issue...check to see does he have any preferences to play for certain teams or leagues. Also you're Man Utd so you should be financially capable to pay the crazy wages being demanded.
 
Yeh no way I'm paying that much, he ended up at Chelsea and is on £225k a week
