WELCOME TO MIDDLESBROUGH FOOTBALL CLUB

The Structure of the Club

The Chairman

The Man at the helm remains Steve Gibson, who saved the Club from liquidation in 1986 and has invested Millions in the Infrastructure and Team over the last 25 years, the appointment of Xavi could be his biggest gamble so far.

The Advisors

Gibson has brought in the highly reputable Peter Kenyon to advise in all commercial matters, along with Neil Bouser as the Managing Director. A very useful link with Jorge Mendes has been forged which could help Boro in the Future.

Director of Football

Real Madrid Legend Fernando Hierro has been brought in to advise and Guide Middlesbrough in the Right Direction when looking for top quality players and fantastic Youth signings.

The Coaching Team

The new man in charge is the Legendary Xavi and will be assisted by his former Barcelona team mate Carles Puyol, let's hope that the Coaching Partnership will bring a similar success to what their playing Partnership brought!!!

Xavi

Middlesbrough FC have had a roller coaster ride full of emotions since Steve Gibson saved the club in 1986.

The hiring of Man Utd legend Bryan Robson was the first part of the Revolution, gaining promotion to the Premiership in his first season. ?15m was spent building the Riverside Stadium, the 30,000 capacity Stadium (now 35,000). Money was spent on players such as Nick Barmby and Brazilian Player of the year Juninho, which shocked the Footballing world. Yet more millions were lavished on Italian Fabrizio Ravanelli and another Brazilian, Emerson, from Bobby Robsons FC Porto. The club boasted an impressive attacking frontline, but was suspect in defence. The club made it to two Cup Finals in the same season, which were both lost and then suffered the pain of relegation due to a deduction of 3 points. The club made it to the League cup final a year later, but again tasted defeat.

After the sacking of Robson, Gibson brought in former Man Utd Assistant Steve McClaren to take Boro to the next level. Players such as Gaizka Mendieta, Bolo Zenden and a returning Juninho helped lift the clubs first and only trophy to date, the League Cup. European Football followed the next season, but where knocked out in the last 16 by Sporting Lisbon. Boro again qualified for Europe in the 2004/05 season with a 1-1 draw with Man City, Mark Schwarzer saving a Robbie Fowler penalty in the last minute, ensuring that boro finished 7th instead of City. The European adventure was full of lows and highs!! In both the Quarter Final and Semi Finals, Boro found themselves 0-3 down in both games but managed to pull it back and win 4-3 twice, with the attacking Foursome of Hasselbiank, Viduka, Yakubu and Maccarone putting Basle and Bucharest to the sword. Defeat in the final to Sevilla signalled the end of the McClaren era and he went on to manage England.........

Gareth Southgate then took over as Player Manager and this signalled the start of the downward spiral. The ?13m Signing of Brazilian Afonso Alves should have been the catalyst to propel Boro back, but he flopped and the team was relegated.

Wee Gordon Strachan then began to build the Scottish Revolution at Boro...... Which failed massively, leaving the club coffers virtually empty and a huge wage bill for overpaid and under performing players....... The less said about this the better.

Then came the local hero Tony Mowbray, the saviour of the Boro. In his first season he guided Boro away from relegation and started to reduce he huge wage bill. A brilliant start to his second season had Boro sitting Second at New Year, only for everything to come to a crashing end with only 3 remaining victories for the rest of the season, Boro were close to being relegated. He reduced the wage bill further and got rid of the dead wood, brought in some young and hungry players to compliment the fantastic youth players at the club and all seemed well until the bad results continued and he eventually swallowed his pride and walked from the club he loves.

So now here we are, the Start of the 2013/14 Season and Xavi Hernandez has been appointed as Player/Manager with Carles Puyol as Player/*** Man.
Steve Gibson hopes that this appointment will push Middlesbrough back into the Elite League and can re-live the glory days of the noughties!!

So this is the Squad that I have to work with!

Pretty happy with it and should do well, obviously Xavi and Puyol stand out but they may not play every game as they are getting on a bit now. The main positions I believe need strengthening are the GK, DC, DR, DL and FC, but not too concerned as I think it is still a good squad. The Youth coming through at the minute is exceptional and once established in the First Team, they should be regulars for years to come.......hopefully.

So the Key Players (barring Xavi and Puyol)

Jonathan Woodgate - DC - Highly experienced Defender with spells at Tottenham and Real Madrid, still the best defender in the league when fit......when fit!!!!

Ben Gibson - DC - Has potential to be better than Woody, if he works hard and learns quick, most promising player at Boro right now.

Rhys Williams - DM - Aussie International with bags of potential, just needs to be more consistent, can also cover at DC.

Albert Adomah - MR - Ghanaian Winger snapped up from Bristol for ?1m, could be a potential player of the season if he adapts well to the style of play.

Kei Kamara - FC - Signed from the MLS, not the best Striker in the world, but work rate and his presence in the dressing room gives a huge boost to other teammates morale.

Key Youth Players

Bryn Morris - MC - Current England U17 Captain and Future Boro Captain, this kid has masses of potential and will hopefully be at the centre of Boro's Midfield for years to come.

Adam Reach - ML - Quick and Skilful winger following in the footsteps of Downing and Johnson, needs to be more consistent to remain in the team when the chances come.

Ryan Brobbel - MR - Another winger to come off the Boro Production line, would benefit from a loan spell before being introduced to first team action.

Christian Burgess - DC - A solid English Defender, he will need to improve and realise his potential quick as at the age of 21, he ain't no spring chicken in the grand scheme of things.

Charlie Wyke - FC - Impressed for the youth squad in the 2010/11 season, netting close to 30 goals, given a 3 year contract and big things are expected of the youngster.

With the amazing Training Facilities and Youth Setup I will be looking to bring quality players through the Academy and Search the World for the Next Messi's and Ronaldo's. Money is not available in abundance and the Club won't be able to stretch itself while it tries to keep inline with FFP, so Youth Development will be Key.

The Philosophy will be Attacking, Possession and Attractive Football to keep the Fans happy, hopefully this will bring the crowds back as the attendances began to dwindle last season, the gate receipts are essential to keep the club writhing the FFP rules!!!

Ok, that's all that out the way, let's begin!! I will update every Month with the occasional News story if something Major happens!!!

Pre Season

Friendly
Bordeaux ...1... Middlesbrough ...3...
Xavi
Gibson
Kamara

Good start to Pre season, Player Manager popped up and scored in his first start and was followed by 2 headers before half time to go in 3-0, poor second half though, but at this stage it's all about blending and Fitness.

Friendly
Vannes OC ... 1 ... Middlesbrough ... 3 ...
Gibson (2)
Morris

Another good win in France, with Ben Gibson continuing his fine start to pre season, scoring 2 great goals. Bryn Morris fired home a 3rd with 30 minutes remaining to claim a stake in the First Team.

Friendly
FC Martigues ... 0 ... Middlesbrough ... 2 ...
Adomah
Kamara

100% record in tour of France with a simple win. Adomah and Kamara netting a goal each. Carlos Gozalbo came on to make an appearance but had little effect on the game.

Friendly
Barcelona ... 2 ... Middlesbrough ... 0 ...

First defeat of Pre Season, but then again it was Barcelona, Messi with the First, before Carayols equaliser was ruled out for offside and then Alexis Sanchez finished us off with 8 mins to go.

Friendly
Hartlepool ... 0 ... Middlesbrough ... 3 ...
Richardson
Gibson
Gozalbo

First half display was terrible, Woodgate going off injured after 10 mins unsettled the team, but picked up the performance in the second half. Gibson again finding the net for his 4th goal in pre season and young Spaniard Carlos Gozalbo scoring his first goal for the club.

Breaking Transfer News

Reports coming out of the Riverside Stadium are that the Club are on the verge of signing FC Porto Defensive Midfielder Fernando for a fee believed to be around ?4m.

With rumours that Grant Leadbitter and Rhys Williams could be leaving the club shortly, the signing of Fernando would seem like a good piece of business.
Porto snapped up the Brazilian Born player from the lower leagues of Brazil and has matured into a capable Midfielder. He has now gained Portuguese citizenship and has stated if given the chance, he would jump at the chance of representing them, given the few opportunities Brazil could offer.
The only thing holding up the transfer now is the Work Permit which could be granted in the next few days.
If the deal falls through then Boro may take a closer look at Anthony Annan, who they are also rumoured to be after.

Championship Odds

The 3 Relegated Clubs are odds on to go straight back up, with Last years beaten Play Off finalists at 4th Favourites for promotion. Xavi's Boro side are a respectable 3-1, but as we know, anything can happen in this League.

Young Players In

Brought in 4 Youth Players, 3 Spaniards and a French/Algerian, pretty excited about the Prospects of Gozalbo and Gasmi as I beat of competition from Atletico Madrid and Juventus for their signature.

So a pretty impressive start to the season, a few close calls, Barnsley nearly sneaking back to 3-3 after being 0-3 down but we just held out. Scott McDonald nearly coming back to haunt his former club in the Cup, but 2 extra time goals sorted that out. I'm sure it will get tougher as the season progresses and possible injuries build up.

News

Player of the Month for Adomah after hammering in 7 from 7.

Manager of the Month for Xavi after winning every game this month, brilliant start by the Spaniard.

The only other news was that Fernando Completed a 3m move to Boro, Anthony Annan joined on loan and Grant Leadboots was sold to Huddersfield for a knock down 150k.

Just a quick one Guys

Which layout do you guys reckon is best for the results, those seen in pre season where it is all typed or the first 5 games where it's the screenshot style?

Feedback, Suggestions and Advice would be great, not sure if anyone is actually reading is!!!

Cheers Guys

UTB!!!!

Layout is excellent, not sure about the Puyol and Xavi signings though a little bit skeptical for a club like Boro.

It is totally unrealistic, but just part of my Story as they have come in to be Manager/Player and Assistant/Player until they retire! Was just bored at playing a normal game so thought a Twist would be refreshing!

Saying that Bryan Robson was a star when he came to Boro as Player/Manager in 94/95, so anything is possible, haha!

Shame my beloved Middlesbrough's can't be as ambitious as this in real life!!!

Sick of championship now as well as Gibson. Good luck in season!
