York City - Need Tactics Help!

Hello!

So yeah, as the post title says, I decided to play York City since its more of a challenge that playing as the top teams with pretty much unlimited funds but I cannot seem to find any tactic that works.

I have rebuilt the whole team from top to bottom, my assistant told me he thinks I should be using 4-5-1 which I have tried in both rigid standard, fluid attacking, very rigid defensive

I always lose or draw.... Sometimes i can score 2 or 3 goals right at the start of the match and go all the way to the 80th minute being 3-0 up then out of nowhere suddenly its 4-3 or 3-3 and almost every time i do score, it gets disallowed due to offside or whatever reason which is incredibly annoying!

I have also tried a couple of pre-made tactics

4-2-3-1 The Toon
Darrens fluid attacking 4-5-1
TBH Asymmetric 451 Left Version

Any help at all would be a huge help! I can provide more information about my team & players if needs be!

If you have made an overhaul of the team, it might take up to 6 months before they come together as a group and before that happends, you will struggle unless playing to the strength of the players.

In generall, the best way to climb the league system is the form a squad around Mental stats, Physic and Tactics. Determined players with some really quick ones, some with good stamina mixed together with some players with good off the ball.

. Here, it will let you play a high energy game where you can play a rigid ( the players try to do what you tell them) Counter approach, a system where you if getting the transfers correct, will be able to match your opponents even if getting promoted.

As for the formation, well I would recommend a 451 as its the best one to get specialist for. You can concentrate on getting hardworking Central Mids and quick wingers. You will be surprised how a midfield like that can totally dominate an opponent with players much better in technique if those lack the mental stats and ironwill to work hard for 90+ minutes, just as quick wingers without any other skills can run havoce againstucu better fullbacks that lacks speed.

So I want to be looking at midfielders where my primary concerns are

creativity, passing, anticipation, dribbling, technique

and then wingers with my primary concern being

passing, finishing, decisions, dribbling, pace, balance

Or am i just totally not getting what you are saying?

I actually decided to start a save with York ( 13.3 databas) myself. I have only played friendlies but so far, so good.

I am currently using the following setup

Rigid - Counter - 451
Press more, Zonal, rest set to default

I use Limited DCs, Fullbacks on support
DMC/defend - BWM/support -BWM/support
Winger/support - Inside FC/Atttack
Advanced FC

Here, I either go with no shouts, some retain shouts ( retain, pass to fett) or Attacking shouts ( get ball forward, pass into space, play wider)

I have also made a more attacking tactic using the following.

Standard- Attacking - 451
Zonal, rest set to default

I use Limited DCs, Fullbacks on Attack
DMC/defend - BWM/support -CM/attack
Winger/support - Inside FC/Atttack -
Defensive FC/support

Here, I either go with no shouts, stretching shouts ( play wider, overlaps, pass to feet, retain possession) or attacking shouts ( get ball forward, pass into space, hassle)

- Here, they will break up attacks and fight for 90 minutes

My first match since playing with settings I won 5-3 against Burton... Conceded 3 goals in the space of about 2 minutes which is not good but a big improvement!

I will have a bit of a play around with my team in its current setup and see if i can find a method that works and if not I will probably start again and go with your suggestion of focusing on a fast & determined midfield

Good Luck. Sometimes you have a good enough squad to perform straight away and sometimes you need to bring in a lot of players and then, you will see results in the 2nd season so just hang in there. If this is a career game, then its no real rush

I won my first 2 games after putting this on with constant 70% possession, one game 5-3 (conceded 3 goals in about 2 minutes) and the 2nd game I won 4-1 but I noticed that by the end of the 2nd game my possession had dropped to 50% and below after this, I started losing all my games again.

So I tried your second tactic and I got the same results:

Standard- Attacking - 451

Winger/support - Inside FC/Atttack -
Defensive FC/support

Shouts: play wider, overlaps, pass to feet, retain possession

For 2 or 3 games this worked for me and now I have gone back to the same as before, I start the game around 60-70% possession and then it drops to 40% or 50% by the end of the match.

I think I must just have players that lack the determination to be able to play a full 90 minutes

The longer you use it the more solid and consistent it should become, at least that is what ive found. Try and get a proper target man when you get the chance, good strength and heading, it will help you a lot.
