Goals Galore for Liverpool
September Update
Liverpool's first game of the month was a tricky away tie at Newcastle, both teams were ready for the game as both managers have said how much they would like to beat each over. Newcastle had the better start as in the 17th minute Nile Ranger gave them the lead, but just two minutes later Torres pulled the game level after he pounced on a
terrible mistake by Sol Campbell. Joe Cole put Liverpool
2-1 up after he cut inside of the left wing to curl one past Tim Krul, Newcastle replied through Andy Carroll who recently said he wanted to make it into Mr.Capello's world cup squad, and then five minutes later in the 62nd minute Ryan Taylor gave Newcastle the lead with a
superb free kick. Liverpool still had hope and it showed as in the 69th minute Gerrard broke through and placed it past Krul to make it
3-3, and in injury time Gerrard took a corner that Sotiris Kyrgiankos met and secured Liverpool the three points.
4-3 Liverpool was the final score.
Rijkaard's second game of the month was the biggest game of his Liverpool career, the Merseyside derby at Anfield. With both teams looking for a win it was surely going to be a high tempo game, Liverpool took the lead after Cardozo was brought down by Heitinga in the area, up stepped Gerrard and he smashe the ball past Tim Howard. Everton got themselves a penalty though after Johnson collided with Saha in the area and the ref pointed straight to the spot, up stepped Arteta to neatly place the ball into the bottom right of the goal. Liverpool regained the lead on the stroke of half time when Oscar Cardozo turned Distin and curled the ball in the net,
2-1 Liverpool at half time. Liverpool came out wanting the three points more and when Torres crossed the ball in and Heitinga put the ball into his own net to make a bad day worse, the Liverpool wans were ecstatic. Everton never picked up after that and Torres made it
4-1 after he took on two Everton players before taking on Tim Howard and passing it into an empty goal, Ryan Babel completed the rout in the 72nd minute after he met a Cardozo cross and tapped it in.
5-1 Liverpool was the final score.
Liverpool were looking to carry on their fine goalscoring form in the Europa League against Litex in the group stage, and thats what they did as they won the game
6-0. Torres opened the scoring just two minutes in after a
stupid defensive mistake what let him through to score, Torres then doubled Liverpool's lead in the 5th minute when he latched onto a Sanogo through ball and passed it past the keeper. Torres wrapped up his hat trick in the 21st minute when he got brought down in the area, as Gerrard had been rested for the game up stepped Torres to score the penalty, Torres amazingly then got his fourth just 4 minutes later when he capitalised on another defensive mistake to put the ball past a stranded goalkeeper, but just one minute later Torres got his
fifth of the day when he got on the end of a Kuyt cross. Yaya Sanogo scored on his debut to end the rout.
Torres has been unstoppable so fare for Liverpool
Liverpool were now back in the Premier League and were away at West Ham, the game had no real chances apart from two that both went to Liverpool. The first was in the 25th minute when Gerrard had a wild shot from 30 yards out that crept under Rob Green. Liverpool then got there thrid penalty in as many games and up stepped out of form Oscar Cardozo to try an claim his second goal for Liverpool, he smashed the ball and Rob Green somehow got his fingertips to it to tip it over the bar.
1-0 to Liverpool was the final score.
On the back of that dreadful performance against West Ham , Liverpool now met Wigan in the League Cup 3rd round, the first half was a pretty boring half and it took Liverpool until the 62nd minute to take the lead after Torres used his speed t break through a poor Wigan defense and hammered it past Kirkland in goal. That goal mad Liverpool try even harder and the got rewarded for that when Christian Poulsen got his first goal since joining from Juventus. Torres got his second of the game in the 82nd minute after Boyce tried to clear the ball but missed it and Torres smashed the ball into the top right of the Wigan goal.
Liverpool's final game of September was at home against Aston Villa, Villa started amazingly when
Emile Heskey scored after just 45 seconds. Torres carried on his good form to pull a goal back in the 62nd minute after a Gerrard free kick rebounded off the post and there was Torres to tap it in. Stephen Ireland put Villa back into the lead in the 72nd minute when he smashed the ball past Reine who had no chance of saving it. Torres again scored for Liverpool to make it
2-2 after he neatly placed the ball past Friedel in net.
