That's different, if you have two attacking midfielders then you leave too much space between the midfield and defence and loads of room for players to exploit.

Drogba as a target man would want most of the ball which would isolate Torres imo. Rooney is the worker, Torres or Drogba the goalscoer imo. Id Replace Drogba with Essien or Mascherano

You're thinking of it in terms of positioning, rather than the players themselves.

The way you are talking, no midfielders who like to get forward could pair up with each other, whereas his point was purely based on Gerrard and Lampard.

Even so, the reason people said Anelka and Drogba couldn't play together was because Chelsea never really tried to accomodate a formation for the both of them. England did for Gerrard and Lampard and it failed.

I'm not sure it completely failed.

I think the team as a whole failed, resulting in arguably the two best players in the team (at the time) being targeted for not performing as well as they perhaps have should.
