I've recently started LANing a few RTS's with a few pals, and as a long-time RTS (my first RTS was Warcraft: Orcs and Humans, yes, the first one) and strategy gamer and I was wondering what everyone's favourite ones are? Mine are, in no particular order,
Age of Empires II
Warcraft II
C&C: Red Alert
Dawn of War I

Even though I've played Total Annihilation, Warcraft III, AoE III, Starcraft (I&II), Homeworld and a few other "big" RTS's, for some reason they didn't have the same charm. I would however like to try Sins of a Solar Empire.

I never really liked Starcraft as much as Warcraft II due to the futuristic setting, and same thing goes for Tiberian Sun, Homeworld and TA (Sue me for being a hypocrite and loving DoW I), though I do understand why people love them. Some people have sugar in their tea, some have milk, some have both, I have mine black.

As for AoE III, Age of Mythology, Dow II and Starcraft II I didn't feel they were anywhere near as good as their predecessors; sure they were good, but couldn't hold a candle to their daddies.

I'm not counting the TW series as an RTS, as the hallmark of RTS's is the LAN party. Also, any game where you can go orcs and invent new ways of genocide is automatically awesome.

All of those, plus SupCom. There's others, I just can't remember them atm.

Ah, yeah, Supreme Commander is supposedly really good - I've never played it.

It's, um, complicated. The sheer amount of stuff you can do can rather overwhelm you, but the new one has a brilliant pathfinding system added on to the old one's excellent full-scale war feel. Nothing quite like co-ordinating land, sea and air forces in systematic attacks. I do rather find myself whoring bombers, but hey. ;)

I used to enjoy World of Warcraft WoTLK loads until scammers etc ruined it so stopped playing. And from what I've heard, the WoW environment has plummeted a **** of a lot (though the nerd rage was-and can still be judging by youtube-thoroughly entertaining!). If so it's a shame as Catacylsm looked awesome. But when I did enjoy it, I loved it. Just the freedom and the sheer scale of the playing environment was appealing to me. Command and Conquer was thoroughly enjoyable too. But I definately want to try my hand at Sins of a Solar Empire-just need to make sure the lappy can handle it first though obviously. Looks like an excellent game

You wouldn't have ADHD or concentration difficulties on the off chance?;p

Red Alert + Red Alert 2. Problem with 2 was the flying bloke spamming. Buy a bazillion and fly over a base.....bore. I have StarCraft but not played it much. Tiberian Sun I used to play a bit but the snnoying special weapons got on my ****. I have Dawn of War somwhere I think too
