Hello friends and fellow managers,

how does youth intake work and what factors influence it? I've been playing 3 seasons with Chelsea and all my youth players suck.. I've got perfect training facilities and my trainers are mostly 4.5 or 5 stars...

So simply put: What makes your youth intake better?

Having a good head of youth development helps. Sometimes it is down to luck though.

Youth recruitment network is the key (along with HoYD). Check your facilities, and try to upgrade them if it's not already described as "extensive".

Youth recruitment network, good head of youth, good scouting knowledge, high club rep, best youth category and youth facilities.

I'd like to expand on this thread regarding the HOYD. Does the HOYD:

1. Contribute in some way to the quality of players that come through in your youth intake?

2. Does he search the world for youth prospects and subsequently sign them?

Or

3. Does he only review your intake and make recommendations on whom to sign?

Another question on the nationality of youths from your intake:

1. As an English club, my intake is likely to be players from England. Is there anything that influences my intake having players from other nations? If I have 100% scouting knowledge in France, for example, am I more likely to see a Frenchman in my intake? Does the HOYD impact this at all?

Thanks guys :)

here Staff Roles | Football Manager 2013 Guide

Thanks, that link was helpful. I note that the link confirmed that the HOYD would "find and make offers" for the youth team - has anyone's HOYD actually done this? I've never seen it!

My 3rd question still stands (the one about intake nationalities)

Ask board to improve recruitment etc.(board will easily say yes if your finances are okay) I also play with Chelsea, I got Cole's successor LB in my youth intake. (2 LBs, one 4.5stars and second 4 star), even better at 16. I always ****** youngsters that are on trial at other clubs.

I always find it difficult with my youth intake too ...please spread the knowledge hehe ...

I?m also wondering about this, nice question. Did you come up with anything? or is it still the same?

Scouting knowledge and feeder clubs I believe are what help you get in other nationality players, don't expect many though you may get 1-2 a season.

Agreed - on FM13 with FC Halifax I had links with Brazilian, Chinese & Russian teams.

Guess I just need to be a little more patient then! Any ideas on the nationality question for the intake?
Can't remember the post to quote it but one of the guys mentioned the other day that the nationality of the HoYD does influence your regen nationality but I can't confirm that.

having my manager and half my staff including my HOYD as Sammarinese hasn't resulted in me getting even a half sammarinese player through my youth setup in 4 years. (and with my manager being sammarinese that means I've got 100% scouting knowledge of the country, and I also loaded in the league to make sure the country is producing regens.)

Ok, guess not then.

also youth recruitment network... at the most basic level you can only get in local lads... at the most higher level, you can basically have lads from all over the world (although somehow tied to feeder clubs and scouting knowledge, there are chances to get lads from countries your club has no ties whatsoever) - quality of them lads is a different thing
