I always play zonal marking and it's also the most obvious way of marking for a a 4-4-2. I think it would be a good idea to play man marking with a sweeper in a defensive tactic, however the offensive part of your tactic would suck though, so you can't really compromise. Go with zonal marking in a 4-4-2. In other formations it could be a great idea to played a mixed thing of both zonal and man marking, but I don't think it's necessary to explain for you. I never played mixed or man marking, so I can't give you any real advice on that, as I always had success with zonal marking.
