I hadn't changed the settings of the CM's. Would tweaking my BWM to have a more defensive mentality and do less closing down have the same effect? I thought the point of a box to box midfielder was that they were involved in both attack and defence.

So I should change the instructions to default on roaming/expressiveness, pull the defensive line back a bit... and well, I can't really get more width without changing formation. The point about the poachers is a good one, another player to hold the ball in the final third might make it easier...
