2011 UEFA European Under-21 Tournament

Poor performance so far from England, although Spain have been largely impressive, i still think with the team on the pitch, the amount of premier league appearances out there should be having a bigger impact on the game than they are!

If only De Gea was 2 inches smaller we would have been going in to half time at 1-1.

Edit. Pundits in the studio have caught on with the handball!

We haven't played badly, just.. uno.. we are England, we seem to lose all confidence when we hit a tournament.

Spain for all the possession didnt create much clear cut chances. Scored controversial goal. Half time came at the wrong time for England who were growing in confidence and created few chances. Can get a draw if they can keep the ball on the ground where England looked dangerous..

England have struggled to impose themselves in this game. They went 4-4-2 and hoped they'd overpower, but Spain have settled so well and have been dominating.

Thiago is meant to be the natural successor to Xavi at Barcelona, but he looks more like an Iniesta to me. Likes to dribble, excellent close control and a good eye for a splitting pass.. Looks quality imo.

We're playing a 4-2-3-1. ;)

Could be seeing him in the prem next year!

Tbh i was looking forward to this tornoment, but it seems england with the team they have are playing really badly :L

i know its spain and everything but simple things like little passes to feet were going miles off the mark.. improved towards the end of the half but still not good enough imo..

BTW Swear there goal was handball and no-one even mentioned it.. it looked clear as day!

it looks very much like a 4-4-2 to me :D

:P Tbf the difference is minimal. We're playing Welbeck behind Sturridge (the opposite from normal) and they swap a lot so it looks like a 4-4-2. If you look closely at England in defensive phases though, you can clearly see the front band of three behind the striker and then Mancienne and Henderson patrolling behind.

Still, no doubting we're being outplayed.

I would have said it was a 4-2-3-1 tbh. Welbeck is playing alot deeper than Sturridge, Henderson and Wankienne are playing pretty deep for CM's.. so yeah..

Mancienne i just dont rate at all! :P

btw on bbc:
2042: Now then. If you, like me, have just been watching a close-up of Spain's goal, you would have seen Ander Herrera's hand - situated almost on top of his head - make contact with the ball in extra slow motion as he diverts it past Frank Fielding. But at full speed it's not the easiest infringement to detect. Thoughts?

i saw it when it first happened! :P

Started as a 4-4-2 which allowed Spain to settle. May have switched mid-way through the half, but definitely began as a 4-4-2. Welbeck and Sturridge both started high, Mancienne and Henderson were both central and Rose and Cleverly both out wide.

Also, Danny Rose is ***** and Frankie Fielding can't kick for ****.

Spain are something else.

100% - Javi Martinez has completed all 24 passes attempted in the opening 25 minutes for Spain U-21 v England. Precise.

If I were Psycho, I'd bring on Sinclair and Albrighton for Rose and Cleverley.

Put Albrighton on the right to run at the defenders and cross the ball. Sinclair on left to cut in and shoot like he did for Swansea all season, put Sturridge behind Welbeck to use his pace to run from deep and shoot and have Welbeck up top as an outlet in a 4-2-3-1.

My opinion...

Don't know why we didn't start like that.

Why did Rodwell not start? >.<

Stuart Pearce is though, so we should have started like that.
