2014 World Cup thread

Both statements are absolute rubbish, they are not in the side to catch the eye and change the game.

Henderson is the legs, Gerrard is the protection and ball-player and to say he is past it after his best season for many years is an overreaction

I do feel with them CM spots we do need a bit more creativity though, someone who likes to get the ball forward earlier or will run with it. That's why I'd prefer Wilshere starting next game, also as it's a weaker team I don't see why we can't take a few risks anyway.

I agree, it does lack creativity further forward but they are chosen so the front four can almost have free attacking roles... Playing Wilshere is a good option but it does leave us a lot more vulnerable defensively

You have seen it flourish at Liverpool this year with them two holding and Coutinho, Sterling, Suarez and Sturridge constantly inter-changing in attack

Too many Liverpool players in this England squad. They lack winning mentality.
hehe

Although it's clearly an attempt to get people to bite, maybe the other English players should have better season's, then there wouldn't be so many

Are people ever happy? I mean, short of starting Rooney, which kind of has to, Hodgson did everything people wanted him to do. We played dynamic, attractive football in a modern formation utilising a good blend of younger and older talent. We didn't rely on luck, or try and grind out a boring 1-0 win. Everyone said: "we take a younger side and blood them for once, let's ditch the old guard and actually take a risk!" So England do that and yet people still ******* rip into them for it. It's like telling someone to follow their dreams then, when they fall flat on their face, whispering smugly to them: "I knew you'd **** it up."

Holy ****, if you want to know why our players have no confidence and no manager ever lasts, just look at yourselves for once.

And yet still the masses whine incessantly. Holy ****, if you want to know why our players have no confidence and no manager ever lasts, just look at yourselves for once.

Exactly, couldnt agree more

To be honest, I'm more impressed by England than Italy.

Italy played really slow possesion based and their only threat were deep balls from Pirlo behind the defence and rushes on their right wing. I think England was first half really bad tacticly, leaving their left win open and England's press was terrible. If the attack would go forward the midfield/defence wouldn't follow and when Pirlo would made a pass they never pressed the receiver. There was really an opportunity there yesterday to hurt Italy more, but ofcourse the weather wasn't helping.

Second half of England was pretty strong, they sort of fixed the leak at the left wing and showed they have some very talented and eager young players. That combined with a great base of older players i think England can do pretty well, if they'd fix their tactics.

Maybe a bit off-topic, but i love BBC commentary. First time i watched a game on BBC and it's so much better! Like they actually talk for 15 minutes about football at half time instead of putting 10 minutes of commercials in there and then highlighting the goals like they do here in the Netherlands.

I would happily go out in the group stages if we are going to play like this and have a go at teams

Like Ashley Young or Wilfried Zaha?
fu gc :p

Just watched the Ivory Coast v Japan game. Good strike by Honda for the first goal, but as soon as Drogba came on you could see the Ivorians spirits lift a little. Two good crosses by Aurier, and Gervinho got a little bit lucky for his thanks to some poor goalkeeping, but still a good win.

Right real torn probs should've made a specific betting thread for World Cup the amount of betting chatter I've done ;) anyways my bet before World Cup started around a month ago

balotelli
neymar
RVP
dzeko

all to to top score for there teams 20 pays 577 but cash out is paying 87 right now what would you guys do take it or let it run. The only one I'm worried about is dzeko because ibisevic was only 3 behind him in qualifying so really not sure what to do like a quick return but if dzeko nets tonight will be bigger would like some thoughts on their respective chances

Stay in. It's still a pretty solid bet and in this case the reward outweighs the risk imo.

Who they playing?

Current advice from the FWE betting group:

Honestly I think cash out because I'm not sure Balo or Dzeko will top score-- and Robben might pip RVP as well. I'd take the ?67 profit and re-bet on something else

Thanks for the advice I'm real torn got till Argentina play to decide

NP man, here's the latest.

I think that's a sound bet - Bosnia play today so I'd at least leave it till after that, but I probably wouldn't cash out anyway

Stick with it. That's a tidy bet and going well so far.

I"m a non betting man but I'd say seriously cash out now while you're ahead. There are so many variables with those scorers.

At least wait until Bosnia play tonight before considering it. If edin scores the cash out price will go up again

Keep it till the end of the group stage at least

Most people think you should at least wait until the end of the groups.
