2014 World Cup thread

Probably the worst drinks i've ever had in my life. urgh the flashbacks

World class pundits and they must be thinking who is this idiot Chiles we have to sit with.

BBC have handsome England legend and former world cup golden boot winner Gary Lineker. ITV have a dumb brummie who looks like the love child of Benny Hill and Shrek and who used to present a daytime TV politics show. I wonder which is better qualified to be talking football with legends.

Hoddle is playing a clever game. Backing Hodgson in public then telling everyone who will listen where England have went wrong and what he'd do differently.

Yes mate. When Hodgson does get the boot he must be faves if we are gonna stay on the English way.

Yes i think he should be given another chance. I just like the way he's throwing his hat into the ring. Obviously he cant say Roy should be sacked, he's tactically inept, that would make him look a ****. Much better to say Roy should stay but this is what he needs to change. Clever.

Hoddle has the talk but look at his record at management. It is on par with Hodgson. He would be no better and for me been out of management too long and just wants to play 3-5-2 as thats what he bangs on about all the time. As I said previously it would be akin to when Liverpool reappointed Dalglish. We should be looking at more modern thinking managers like Roberto Martinez rather than step back yet again.

England were really starting to play well under him when he was sacked for none footballing reasons. Some managers are better suited to International management so club records are irrelevant. Hoddle is a modern thinking manager, ahead of his time in many ways as a player and a manager.

Yes back at the end of the Nineties. It is now fifteen years on and he has not managed for eight of those years. I can break down his record of England games and most were played against teams we were expected to beat like Moldova, Georgia, Switzerland. You might say we won Le Tournoi but they were just friendlies and when we came up against Italy and Argentina in qualifiers and main competitions we did not look like beating them. Thats why his win percentage of 60% + comes from from beating teams we should of been beating and is misleading.

Roy isn't even beating teams we should be beating.

So we should be beating Italy and Uruguay on a regular basis then in your opinion. Italy have a proven track record of normally starting slowly in major tournaments and everyone writes them off until they start getting to the knock out rounds. Uruguay went to the semi finals in the last world cup. So should both sack their managers because they both lost to Costa Rica!!!! No of course not.

As I said earlier in the thread people should stop looking at the manager as the scapegoat and hold the players accountable as they are the ones that make the basic errors that have been punished and play like they have no pride. They might feel pride in the shirt but dont play like they have any. Roy has blooded the younger players in what everyone wanted. He tried to get them to be more attacking what everyone wanted and yet now the players cant play that way everyone says get rid of the manager again. No wonder England dont get anywhere. It becomes alot clearer when you see the manager is not the problem it's the idols who fans can't throw blame at as it might be just for once the truth will hurt them.

In all honesty we should be beating Uruguay nearly everytime, Italy think we are pretty much on same level if you ask me!

We should be beating Ecuador, Honduras, Chile's reserves at home and yes we should of beaten Italy because i think they're poor as Costa Rica proved. Im not going to get into an argument about it because im not going to change my opinion on Hodgson. You're entitled to your opinion and i respect it.

Why should we be beating Uruguay every time. They have a phenomonal record for them in World Cups and South American competitions. They have some class players as well as us. They play as a team with a mentality of never giving up. You are forgetting that they are playing on their own turf as such on the continent. You have underestimated a very good Uruguay squad.

You are wrong tbh there squad is pretty poor bar Suarez and Cavani. The difference is they play as a team and we don't compared to a lot of other teams as well hence we always struggle to beat mediocre teams. Also we are usually handi capped by our managers tactically .

Oh yeah Godcubed is a tactical genius because he pulls stats from other websites, how silly of me not to realise that!!!. Stats can be used to turn a **** player into a worldie if believed. I actually take time out to use my own eyes to judge players on abilities and not from websites or what other so wannabe called experts believe because they have keyboards to type stats from. Again if Huddlestone is that good he would be playing in a side that is challenging at the top end when Spurs let him go. He is not, end of argument as the top managers know what he is lacking in. Wenger would be in for him if he is so good, So would Mourinho and half the managers that watch players on a regular basis. So yeah as you said what more needs to be said about a player that is hardly any good and not rated by top managers. End of debate all round.

Totally changed the point of the case to support your argument.

Tom Huddlestone is one of the very VERY VERY few holding midfielders who's English who has had a good season in the Premier League with a relegation tipped team. Despite what you say about him not being good enough or only good for championship team or any other rubbish... you tell me someone who has had a better season and who can replace Gerrard who isn't 30+ and who has the passing range he does?

I'd love Glen Hoddle again... admittedly there isn't much competition to take over England... but the man speaks so much sense and I think having him in any kind of capacity in the FA would help greatly. We need more people with these more modern and forward-thinking ideas so we can implement them.
