2014 World Cup thread

REALLY????????????

Gary Neville isn't a bad shout but I'd imagine he's in top contention when dinosaur Hodgson goes... I assume anyway.

Explain to me the shock at Alan Shearer? Why would you have Klinsmann but not Shearer?

Alan Shearer often comes across as not having much of a clue... I mean some of his punditry is beyond rubbish. I think our national team needs influence from a coach who's had experience in another nation.... obviously it hurts to say it but is there any better than Germany at the moment? Probably not.

The only benefit to appointing Klinsmann would be we'd never lose to a pen shootout for the time he's in charge

It would be an improvement on every level to Hodgson I think.. what you got against him specifically?

Nothing against him at all. Was being satirical. Every time we get involved in a pen shoot out I just lose the will to live. Been through enough of them in my lifetime watching the World Cup since 86

Ive seen Klinsmann as a pundit, he wasn't brilliant. Klinsmann had no experience at all when he took over Germany and he is credited with turning German fortunes round. Would Shearer do a similar thing for England? who knows but id rather take a punt on Shearer than bring in Klinsmann.

I would have no problem with Klinsmann. Trouble would be most of the knuckle dragging England public would protest over a German being given the English job. It would be so unpatriotic to them.

I could not give a **** who is in charge as I cant see any manager being able to improve where we are at the moment. Fans and the public get swept away by the media hype of England when it comes to a major competition but we just are not good enough to challenge for it and always are dissapointed when we crash and burn because we believe the hype all the time.

Until there is a radical overhaul taken like Germany did in 2000 then no matter who is in charge will not be able to get us challenging regularly against Germany, Spain, Brazil, Argentina.

I know the FA have changed our grassroots and academy system. The academy system has had a huge overhaul in the last 3 years but this is affecting kids of 12/13 and under so don't expect overnight evidence of it..... The coaching structure, philosophies, pathways and curriculums have changed radically throughout the country as have the standard of coaches and coaching. Thats just the start but it is going to be a long time for this to come to fruition.

Lovely skills by Ronaldo there. Been a while since ive seen them.

I want thumb sucking in goal celebrations to be made a red card offence.

Whats up with injuries for Portugal? They are dropping like flies...

United States are well in this game. I think a shock is on the cards

What a rocket from Nani. Of course, it would have been even better had he got his reward.

Many forget also Gibbs... After Cole the most experienced LB England have.

The problem with Gibbs is that he is an Arsenal player so spends most of his life with the physio!!!

If we persist in English managers, there is not many names but if we go for any manager there will be countless better options than Roy

When the England job becomes available more names would come forward.. Even Mourinho was close to taking it

Don't think we will see a foreign England coach for a while now. Greg "savior of English football" **** has complained about the number of English players in the game stating there is too many foreigners in the English game so he would be contradicting himself if we did appoint one. Having said that my opinion is that people who just want to be in the limelight and/or doesn't really know what they are doing tend to contradict themselves quite often so it wouldn't surprise me.

I'm guessing Portugal were expecting a free kick after Besler's challenge which is why they all seemed to come to a stop. Or maybe they were just over-awed by it.
