Introduction
First of all, I would like to state that this is an edit of the fantastic "Grid System Tactics" tactic made by the now 'retired' author Tactikzz. Also massive credit to W4NKER and cragswfc (goals goals goals and more goals) who found weaknesses in the match engine. The reason I decided to edit the grid system tactic was that it already contained most of the exploits within the tactic. Here is the http://www.fm-base.co.uk/forum/footb...-exploits.html if you'd like to see for yourself. This is a "classic" tactic. Also credit to Hectorotoro1234 for some screenshots.
The Formation
View attachment 257989
This 4-1-2-3 formation with 3 central strikers is part of the list of exploits and it works because the two wider strikers man mark the full backs and the central defenders can't handle so many strikers.
The Corner Exploit (grr!)
The infamous corner tactic has been included in this tactic, basically your central striker will score 20+ goals a season just from corners especially if his Anticipation, Heading and Jumping attributes are good. Although this is not vital to the tactic, I recommend you leave the corner settings how they are but if you prefer more realism or are just plain against the corner exploit, feel free to remove it.
Tactical Notes
1) Your central striker, with the help of the striker settings on 'goals goals goals and more goals' by craigswfc, will be your main source of goals, he can score up to 130 goals in a single season. Important attributes in order are Off the Ball, Pace, Finishing (Obviously), Dribbling, Composure, Anticipation, Jumping, Heading. There is no striker with great scores in all of those attributes so prioritise the earlier attributes that I have given.
2) Do not change the wide strikers to wingers, this completely destroys one of the main elements of this tactic, try to train the wingers to strikers or just sell them if they aren't great. This is the only problem with this tactic.
3) Your central midfielders will need good mental attributes in Creativity, Teamwork and Work Rate. Bravery is also important. They will need good Passing and Technique and as a bonus Long Shots. Even Henderson plays well in this role!
4) If the opposition instructions aren't already on then make sure the 2 wide midfielders are on "Show to Weaker Foot", nothing else.
5) Match Preparation: Teamwork - Very High until fluid then
Defensive Positioning - Average
Pitch size: Standard, although it doesn't make much difference.
6) Defenders, especially full backs will need Pace, particularly if you don't have a good attack. Anticipation, concentration and positioning for centre backs.
7) I recommend you use this ParkThePlane 4-3-1-2 v2 - Downloads - Football Manager 2012 Tactics, Wonderkids & Cheats tactic as a backup to my one. It's very defensive and useful if you're playing big teams or when you want to see out a game. Use this if you concede a lot.
8) Before you start go to 'Tactics' and then 'Set Pieces' and drag your best CM to where it says "Playmaker" and your middle striker to where it says "Target Man".

is this last update ? when you update you update in the opening post or in the discussion ?
I've used the PM in a game and the team reacted very well to it. it gave me more passing in the midfield and released my wingers/strikers from carrying the ball, making them more present in the box.
Just one thing: My strikers don't run with the ball into the penalty area, they just shoot in in the line of the box. What can i do? They don't have long shots in the PPM nor in the player instructions.
Also, changed the crossing aim to the TM. Not getting much, but the aim to the 2nd post was giving me nothing.
Interesting. Thanks again for the detailed feedback. Maybe the two wide strikers could run with ball more often for you but I don't think that you can really change that if your striker has a trait to shoot from range or something like that. I don't know how to solve that though because I haven't had that problem. Hopefully someone can help.
Yeah i pointed this up a while ago, whilst most of the time your striker is played through in the box, on a few occasions sometimes he receives the ball a little bit deeper because he is ticked as TM and attempts to just dribble through a solid back line of 4 and then shoots from outside the box- regardless of whether he has the ppm "shoots from distance" or "runs with ball often".
I'm certain it is a simple issue of tweaking the throughball and crossing setting for the central stiker- however, i'm not willing to do it because i'm still winning games and if it isn't broke don't fix it.
However, looking at the original grid and most tactics which use extreme poachers, they always set their poachers to through balls "sometimes" and cross ball "sometimes" to negate the effect of the poacher playing too individually.
*sorry for my poor english*
Do you use ppm for each player or just some ?
And if you do, can you tell me them ?
Also, i don't get why people are getting to fussy over "exploiting the match engine". No tactic will ever will win every game anyway. Just my opinion, but I think the point of making tactics is to exploit weaknesses in the match engine and your opponent.
?
Of course the point Of uploaded plug & play tactics is to overachieve by trying to cheat the AI and abuse and exploits holes in the match engine, flawes the opponent cant abuse. Its hardly the point Of making tactics though.
I just don't like the negativity. This is a as valid an approach as any, at the end of the day it wins games, isn't that the whole point?
Agree, the game is about having fun but forums are à different story as the posts Of all the members are influenced by the mood they are in.
Tweaking the through balls how? I do not want to change what works, but i would like to get more through balls form the team to the center striker
