A potentially serious injury suffered by Dirk Kuyt over showered events on what was a fine Autumn evening in Serbia. The highlight of the game undoubtedly a superb hat-trick from Liverpool winger Elijero Elia. Star striker Fernando Torres got off to a flyer by scoring a finish neatly tucked away with ease on 8 minutes. Stefan Babovic then equalised for Partizan in the 16th minute with a well executed finish. Then a quick fire double from Elia gave Liverpool in a rather commanding position which put Liverpool 3-1 up at half-time.

Partizan improved drastically in the second half but they still couldn’t stop Elia completing his hat-trick with a lovely curling shot from the edge of the area. Torres then completed the rout with his 2nd of the night a well placed shot finding the bottom corner.

PSV 1-2 Man City
Sekitoui (82) - Dzeko (32), Tevez (Pen 41)

dzeko_1834542c.jpg

Manchester City taught Dutch giants PSV a lesson in their own back yard at the Phillips Stadion this evening. Man City striker Eden Dzeko gave his side the lead with an accurate placed finish on the half hour mark, it was a superb solo effort and the big striker looked delighted. Carlos Tevez had no trouble from the penalty spot just before half-time after Adam Johnson was brought down, 2-0 City at the break. City held on to their 2 goal lead right until the 82nd minute when experienced winger Sekitoui scored to give City a few nervy minutes but in the end Roberto Mancini’s side held on for the win.

Blackburn 3-2 Newcastle

solcampbellnothappy.jpg

Blackburn Rovers battled to a deserved 3-2 victory over newly-promoted Newcastle Utd on a hard and bouncy surface at Ewood Park. Powerful striker Andy Carroll got Newcastle off to a flyer by scoring a powerful shot after 3 minutes. Striker Hugo Rodallega then equalised for Blackburn in the 51st minute with a typical poacher’s effort. Full-back Glen Johnson’s red card for a vicious foul just after the hour mark put Blackburn’s position under question. Young striker Andy Carroll then got his second of the game with an incisive finish on 81 minutes in which he thought must have been the winner. But up stepped Rodallega to also get his 2nd of the game with a powerful effort. The last goal of the game came from commanding centre-back whose 95th minute own goal will undoubtedly cause him some embarrassment. Blackburn have climbed above sides such as Sunderland, West Ham and Aston Villa to 10th in the table.

Everton 2-0 Wigan
Coleman (22), Pratley (O.G. 82)

seamus-coleman-007.jpg
Everton enjoyed near domination over a distinctly average Wigan side at Goodison Park this afternoon. Playing as a right winger Seamus Coleman gave Everton the lead with a finish executed with aplomb in the 22nd minute. The last goal of the game came from Wigan captain Darren Pratley whose 82nd minute own-goal secured the win for the Toffees. Everton now lay 8th in the table after this comfortable win.
Fulham 1-1 Bolton
Hughes (75) - Davies (78)

Fulham+v+West+Ham+United+Premier+League+kXXIik5VqZxl.jpg

Fulham and Bolton fans will have been frustrated by their side’s 1-1 draw with Bolton at Craven Cottage. In what was a cagey game, the deadlock was not broken until 15 minutes from time when Northern Ireland captain Aaron Hughes scored a close range effort which was deflected in it’s way in. Bolton then equalised almost instantly just 3 minutes later as Bolton captain Kevin Davies scored his 1st goal of the season with a rather tame effort close to goal.

Sunderland 1-1 Birmingham
Gyan (46) - Beausejour (86)

Birmingham-v-West-Brom-Jean-Beausejour-celeb_2570159.jpg

Jean Beausejour played the part of super-sub for Birmingham as the Blues came from behind to ****** a draw at the Stadium of Light. The match began in controversial circumstances as Birmingham were denied claims for a penalty by Ricardo Fuller. Sunderland winger Maarten Martens had a chance to score from the spot for The Black Cats on the 28 minute mark after he fired wide. Sunderland finally took the lead just after half-time when star striker Asamoah Gyan scored a fierce shot. Birmingham’s super-sub Jean Beausejour equalised for the away side 4 minutes from time. There was still more controversy to come as Birmingham then had a goal disallowed after James McFadden “controlled the ball with his hand” before slotting the ball past Simon Mignolet but referee Anthony Taylor consulted with his assistant and they decided against the goal so 1-1 it finished.

Wolves 3-0 West Brom
Hammill (17), Milijas (34), Ebanks-Blake (89)

66505-the-red-devils-visit-marseille-on-tuesday.jpg

Blackpool’s match against Man Utd will have been a moment Blackpool’s Craig Cathcart will want to forget as he suffered a defeat at the hands of his former club. A double from Wayne Rooney inspired a Utd win. Portuguese winger Nani broke the deadlock with a long range shot that curled past goalkeeper in the 15th minute. An error from Blackpool centre-half Ian Evatt allowed Wayne Rooney to score a deflected effort 7 minutes after the re-start. Then 20 minutes from time that man Rooney stepped up again with a well executed finish to complete the rout.

West Ham 1-2 Liverpool
Cole (39) - Torres (35), Jarvis (87)

article-1361213-0D608C10000005DC-886_634x307.jpg

A potentially serious injury suffered by West Ham’s Wayne Bridge overshadowed events here at Upton Park. Liverpool’s star striker Fernando Torres gave his side the lead with a close range finish that was timed impeccably just after the half hour mark. Carlton Cole then equalised for the Hammers just 4 minutes later with a well timed finish. The hosts were nearly gifted a goal on 51 minutes through Ryan Shawcross’ lapse in concentration but they failed to capitalise on the opportunity that was presented to them. Then just 3 minutes from time Liverpool’s new signing Matt Jarvis scored his 1st goal for the club as he tapped the ball home from a mere 4 yards, Liverpool continued their 100% record and are currently 1st having played a game more than Arsenal, Arsenal can go back to the top of the table if they continue their 100% start as well with the Gunners facing their 1st real test this season an away game at Man City.
Aston Villa 2-1 Stoke
Albrighton (39), Bent (85) - Heskey (31)

Darren-Bent-Aston-Villa-2011.jpg

Former Villa striker Emile Heskey opened the scoring with a deftly executed finish on the half hour mark. Young English winger Marc Albrighton equalised for the hosts in the 39th minute with a real poachers effort. Richard Dunne was sent off for a professional foul 15 minutes from time. Despite being down to 10 men, Aston Villa continued to push forward and record signing Darren Bent got what turned out to be the winner on 85 minutes as he coolly side-footed the ball past Thomas Sorensen in the Stoke goal.

Man City 2-1 Arsenal
Dzeko (7), Hulk (45), - Vermaelen (56)

article-1351896-0CF9E993000005DC-304_634x368.jpg

Man City won a hard fought battle against Arsenal on this fine summer’s afternoon at Eastlands in which is a dress rehearsal for Wednesday’s Carling Cup clash between the 2 sides which is also at Eastlands. Striker Edin Dzeko got City off to a flyer by scoring a tap-in on 7 minutes. Midfielder Hulk then continued his fine start to the season by doubling City’s lead right on the stroke of half-time with a fierce shot that Rene Adler was no way near it and it hit the inside of the post and went in, 2-0 City at the break. An error from Gareth Barry allowed Belgium captain Thomas Vermaelen to score a good header from just inside the 6-yard box. As much as the Gunners pushed for that 2nd goal they just couldn’t find it, City have ended Arsenal’s 100% record and have notched up 3 straight league wins leap forging Arsenal into 2nd place.

Chicharito then got his 2nd of the game by completing the scoring with a deftly executed finish on 66 minutes. Sir Alex Ferguson gave Michael Owen his 1st start to the season who linked up with Chicharito well, the Scotsman also handed Chris Smalling his debut starting alongside John O’Shea in the heart of the defence.

Peterborough 0-3 West Ham
Ben Haim (7), Sears (36), Piquionne (71)

Then followed controversy as West Ham were denied claims by striker Freddie Sears for a penalty. But Sears did get his revenge by doubling the lead for the Hammers with a well-timed close range finish on 36 minutes. Fabrice-Muamba-Bolton-Wanderers-Premier-Leagu_2430643.jpg

Unhappy midfielder Joey O’Brien gave Bolton the lead with a well struck shot from inside the box just before the half hour mark. In a shock result at Bramall Lane,

Midfielder Andy Reid then equalised for the Championship side just before the half hour mark after a well executed finish. Bogdanovic scored with an accurate finish right on the stroke of the hour mark to extend the lead further. There were no prizes for guessing who completed the rout 15 minutes from time as that man Evans popped up again with a good diving header from close range. When the final whistle blew the boos from the West Brom fans were so loud that I couldn’t even hear myself think.

glenn-whelan_1112300c.jpg

Stoke City enjoyed a very comfortable and dominate win over a poor Doncaster Rovers side at the Britannia stadium this evening. The first incident worthy of a mention was on 36 minutes as Doncaster were denied claims by Dean Shiels for a penalty. Stoke did manage to break the deadlock 4 minutes after the re-start after Gary O’Neil was brought down, Glen Whelan was able to keep his composure. Experienced striker Emile Heskey kept up his fine goal scoring start to the season when he doubled the Premier League sides lead after he managed to somehow bundle the ball home on 69 minutes. Wigan 0-1 Hull
Bullard (56)

Jimmy-Bullard-Hull-City-006.jpg

Hull City upset the odds with a surprise victory over Wigan, just making this season worse and worse for the Latics. The first major incident of the match was seeing Wigan having a goal disallowed just 10 minutes into the match. Hull took the lead thanks to ex-Wigan midfielder Jimmy Bullard scored a free-kick from the outside of the area on 56 minutes, Bullard spent 4 years at Wigan and choose not to celebrate. Both teams had a number of attempts on goal, which promised much, but the quality of finishing was poor throughout.

Wycombe 1-2 Wolves
Beavon (17) - Sisi (37), Craddock (90+6)

image-6-for-aston-villa-v-wolves-the-match-in-pictures-gallery-429025307.jpg

Striker Stuart Beavon gave the League 2 side the lead with a tidy finish on 17 minutes. Wycombe also then saw their 21st minute strike chalked off. Winger Sisi who was making his debut for Wolves then equalised for his side with a placed shot into the corner of the net. Then Jody Craddock became a hero as from a corner he threw his head at the ball and in the 6th minute of injury time his diving header just inside the 6-yard-box, his team-mates bundled on top of him and Mick McCarthy ran onto the pitch and Adams park erupted with noise by the travelling Wolves fans.
