The upcoming free to play version of Age of Empires is currently in open beta, I downloaded it a few days ago but only got around to playing it yesterday and it doesn't disappoint. Any AoE or RTS fans should definitely give it a look.

Wooop, used to love Empires and mythology, gonna play it

edit: i think it's only for windows, ****

Same here. Will defo be giving it a shot

Hmmm I wasn't a fan of III but II is one of the greatest games of all time - this definitely looks worth a look at least. Nice find

AOE II was one of the best games ever made, will def have to give this a look. Thanks Lee

I didn't know about this...not sure how!

EDIT: where do I get the code?

I had forgotten about this. I'm not sure about the art style, but I will give it a go. The original AoE was one of my first games. :)

Might try it when i have more time II was one of my fave games a few years ago.(until i discovered CM and later FM :) )

Hmm, seems interesting.
I may considering giving it ago, not really a game I'd normally play, but after watching the video it seems pretty cool.

Omg. Will download tomorrow. Not enough time to describe how much I love AoE.

Hmm it appears they closed the registrations. Oh well, just keep yours eyes open for invites floating around. Sorry.

I didn't like all I saw in the sneak peek thingy - AoE was never about questing/doing the missions. It was all about the PvP. Goths ftw.

There's still PVP. But I think in order to be the best you can you'll need to complete the quests (unless you get XP from pvp) to level up your city to increase your perks etc.

I just disagree with what the sneak peek guy said. And if I wanted to do inane quests against AI, I may as well play Farmville (as was noted). I've always preferred PvP in all games.

Agreed.

I've played a few games and really didn't enjoy it, I feel most of the original AOE fans will feel the same way.

I was never too big on RTS games. AOE & Galactic Battlegrounds were my games of choice, **** Red Alert.

I loved Red Alert, Warcraft II (not III) and AoEII (I still LAN it)!

I don't like the new graphics either, but not a potential decider. It'll depend on the PvP.

AOEII was good for the solo campaign and had a higher pop limit but I prefered the first one. Can't stand dicks who had 5-10 priests at the ready to stop your army :(

Definetly gonna give it a try. And **** that guy talks fast!
