Ahh I see, cheers.

Trying to do something similar albeit with Atletico (I've tried with Bilbao but the restrictions mean I can't quite get them to a level to challenge RM and Barca) and looking at it I probably shouldn't have put my star prospects in the B team.

Love this story mate always look out for updates, keep it up.

Wow, your midfield looks secured for the next 15 years. Love that story mate.

My fav of yours has got to be Raul Alastuey, well done getting his marking from 3 - 9! did you get him to focus on marking?

I also like Mikel Olaizola, tall, strong and fast full back who can use both feet...would be the perfect full back for me!!

love you story KIU!

Thats how many quality Spanish regens you have and thats without being Spain coach :O Excellent work KIU

yeah - Zaldivar is backup RB just now but he better develop soon or Olaizola will leapfrog him. Azpilicueta has only about 2 or 3 years left in him for me anyways.

Alastuey was put on training for marking and has been tutored by Azpilicueta twice and also San Jose

SEPTEMBER

Athletic Bilbao 4 (Griezmann 4, 6, Llorente 14, 77)
Malaga 1 (Rescaldani 3)

After 15min I thought we were going to get 6 or 7 but we stopped at 4 thankfully for Malaga.

--

Alaves 1 (Rey 69)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Llorente 1, Guillermo 19, Griezmann 85)

--

UEFA Champions League Group E
AS Monaco 2 (Falcao 8, 82)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Llorente 47, 72)

I am happy with this point here - especially after Laporte got sent-off.

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Llorente 6, 22, Ruiz og43)
Valencia 2 (Canales 53, Vydra 56)

We were fantastic in the 1st half but were atrocious in the 2nd half.

--

Barcelona 2 (Neymar 32, 89)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Griezmann 11, Guillermo 26)

We got a hiding here as Neymar tore us apart but we were ruthless in front of goal and almost robbed them but it was not to be.

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Herrera 14, Llorente 64, Guillermo 79)
Real Betis 0

A now rare occurrence - a Herrera goal. Long gone are the days when he was scoring 20+ goals a season.

SUMMARY

A good month. We drew our 2 tough matches but won all the others easily enough. Llorente is still on fire and now has scored 16 in 9 this season- quite a tally for an old man!!!

Somehow despite the amount of goals we scored and despite playing every game Iker Muniain failed to hit the back of the net.

OCTOBER

UEFA Champions League Group E

Athletic Bilbao 5 (Lasa 5, Iker 17pen, 90pen, Garrido 47, Alfonso 54)
CSKA Moscow 1 (Rabello 79)

CSKA have been tough opponents in recent seasons so for my youngsters to thrash them here is quite something.

--

Real Madrid 5 (Icardi 1, 37, Cristiano Ronaldo 52, 67, Suarez 69)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Inigo Martinez 16, Llorente 73, Alfonso 87)

No unbeaten league campaign for us this season then!

--

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Guillermo 47, Alfonso 77)
Atletico Madrid 0

A good win this. Alfonso has been amazing since his promotion to the first team - he scores every time!!!

--

UEFA Champions League Group E
Athletic Bilbao 5 (Alfonso 28, Garrido 30, Tarantino 37, Iker 47pen, 53)
Dnipro 2 (Kravchenko 31, 71)

Once again my youngsters excel and once again Alfonso grabs a goal.

--

Getafe 1 (Escudero 71)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Llorente 30pen, Alastuey 40, Alfonso 64)

Alfonso thinks he is Messi!!!!

--

Real Sociedad 3 (Mane 11, Negredo 14, 57)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Muniain 16, Guillermo 61, 75, Garrido 78)

What a comeback this was!!! But where was Alfonso's goal? lol

SUMMARY

This month saw us win every game apart from one and score a load of goals. Our only slip up came in the match away to Real Madrid but that is understandable. I was able to play a few youngsters this month and the likes of Tarantino, Alastuey and Garrido impressed while Alfonso went goal crazy!!!!

Decent enough win as supersub Alfonso strikes again.

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Alfonso 65, Lasa 74)

This win secures qualification to the next round as Alfonso strikes yet again.

A fantastic win but where was Alfonso's goal???

--

UEFA Champions League Group E

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Galan 15, 22, Iker 34)
AS Monaco 1 (Falcao 88)

A good win but I made a mistake - I gave Griezmann a game instead of Alfonso lol. I will just rest Griezmann for the next game.

Levante 1 (Galvez 88)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Laporte 52, Alfonso 54, 86)

Alfonso's stats arent that great so why he is scoring nearly every game is beyond me!

SUMMARY

A pleasing month as we won every game, banged in a load of goals and got to give my youngsters a few games. Alvaro Bragana was the star of the month as the giant central defender netted 4 times in 4 games.

In the Champions League we have been drawn against Galatasaray while Granada await us in the Copa del Rey.

Great save!
For me, this is the best kind of story, fast and dynamic.
Inspired by you I started a Bilbao game, but without success.

So, I have a few tactical questions for you:
Can you show us your tactic? It's always the 4-2-3-1? I never managed to create a 4-2-3-1 so consistent. For me, it's very hard to play with offensive tactics, because there is always a defensive issue. When my CB's are pushing high, there's always space behind their backs. When I tell them to stay back, my CM's doesn't do their defensive job in the middle.

Do you change too much before every game?

How yours AM's (specially the AMC) are so effective? Always a lot of goals and assists. My wingers are just effective when I tell the side backs to overlap (which is something that you don't do, right?).

I'm sorry for all this questions, but your save is so incredible that I am very curious!

Thanks - I dont change anything with my tactic before or during a game to be honest!

JANUARY

Athletic Bilbao 4 (Griezmann 6, Laporte 16, Guillermo 23, Herrera 27)
Real Valladolid 1 (Koo Ja-Cheol 72)

We were excellent in the 1st half but when Inigo Martinez got sent-off we struggled a bit.

Athletic Bilbao 6 (Muniain 12, 19, Guillermo 13, 55, Llorente 30, Iker 90+2)

An entertaining affair!!!

--

Copa del Rey 5th Round 2nd Leg

A nice win supplied by my young backups.

Disappointing but we got the vital away goal.

--

Malaga 2 (Olinga 20, Zapata 34)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Llorente 43, 70, Alfonso 68)

A fine comeback here as we get the 3pts. Alfonso was supersub once again.

(Athletic Bilbao win 3-2 on aggregate)

We absolutely battered Barcelona here and could have scored 5 or 6 such was our dominance.

SUMMARY

The machine that is Bilbao keeps going strong as this month saw us win every game bar one but even the defeat was overturned as we progressed through to the Copa del Rey semis where we will play Real Madrid.

We have opened up a 7pt gap at the top of the league so it looks as though it is won already - having said that I pretty much know we are going to win it every year now anyway!

FEBRUARY

Athletic Bilbao 5 (Llorente 8, Griezmann 33, Guillermo 45, 89, Herrera 68)
Sporting Gijon 1 (Kolar 65)

Another big win here as Guillermo and Herrera ran the show.

--

Copa del Rey SF 1st Leg
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Muniain 56)
Real Madrid 1 (Allione 59)

It will be tough to progress into the final now as they have the away goal.

--

Athletic Bilbao 4 (Lasa 24, 42, Iker 54, Garrido 78)
Alaves 0

A fine victory as I rested my first team for the upcoming match against Real Madrid.

--

Copa del Rey SF 2nd Leg

Real Madrid 4 (Lacazette 19, 43, Keita 38, Modric 81)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Llorente 15, Griezmann 41)
(Real Madrid win 5-3 on aggregate)

We were hard done by here and if we had taken a few of our opportunities that fell our way early in the 2nd half then things may have been different.

--

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Griezmann 40, Llorente 52)
Barcelona 3 (Neymar 28, 50, Insigne 85)

We gave it a good go here but we were always up against it when Inigo Martinez got sent-off early on.

--

Valencia 1 (Vydra 46)
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Nieto 82)

A decent enough point considering we had Azpilicueta sent-off and were a goal down.

--

UEFA Champions League 1st Round 1st Leg
Galatasaray 2 (Soldado 38, 83)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Inigo Martinez 36, Laporte 45)

4 games in a row without a victory - unheard of!!! Pretty ****** off here.

--

Real Betis 4 (Dongou 35, 38, 64, Chuli 83)
Athletic Bilbao 5 (Alastuey 7, Griezmann 15, 74, Muniain 34, 66)

Finally we get back to winning ways and it was done the hard way as Inigo Martinez got sent-off after 20min.

SUMMARY

A pretty poor month this. We stumbled a couple of times in the league, were eliminated from the Copa del Rey and could only draw with Galatasaray in the Champions League. We had to rotate the players a bit this month due to injury and suspension so maybe that was the main reason why we stumbled.

Once again my B side is winning the Liga Adelante and have a 9pt lead at the top.

MARCH

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Herrera 6, Llorente 43pen, Muniain 90)
Real Madrid 1 (Prezioso 68)

A great victory this - we have pretty much identical records against eachother.

--

Athletic Bilbao 5 (Griezmann 45, Lucas 47, Guillermo 57, Llorente 66pen, Muniain 74)
Getafe 0

A great performance - one of those where everyone played well and no subs were needed.

--

Atletico Madrid 3 (Sanabria 5pen, Kampl 30, Zivkovic 56)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Herrera 43, Alfonso 70)

A poor result and a poor performance.

--

UEFA Champions League 1st Round 2nd Leg

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Guillermo 6, Garrido 42)
Galatasaray 0
(Athletic Bilbao win 4-2 on aggregate)

We should have won this by a lot more but we won and that is the main thing.

--

Athletic Bilbao 5 (Gonzalez 21, Laporte 30, Inigo Martinez 46, Muniain 54, Llorente 90)
Real Sociedad 0

A stunning derby victory as we thrashed Sociedad here.

SUMMARY

This month was pretty decent as we progressed in the Champions League and got big victories against Real Madrid and our fiercest rivals Real Sociedad. The only blip was the defeat at the hands of Atletico Madrid.

In the Champions League we will face Chelsea.

The youth intake was pretty average. A couple of decent prospects but nobody to really shout out about.

APRIL

UEFA Champions League QF 1st Leg
Chelsea 3 (Oscar 10, Lukaku 14, Willian 38)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Herrera 5, Laporte 54, Garrido 77, Griezmann 89)

A fantastic victory - from 3-1 down to win 4-3 is some achievement against such a strong Chelsea side.

--

Granada 1 (Siqueira 7pen)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Alastuey 49, Muniain 68)

A hard fought win this. Alastuey has been great this season and is developing nicely - his marking attribute has gone from an original 3 up to 12!!!!

--

UEFA Champions League QF 2nd Leg
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Llorente 19pen, 24, 85)
Chelsea 2 (van Ginkel 7, 26)
(Athletic Bilbao win 7-5 on aggregate)

An entertaining game. They had a goal disallowed to give them a 3-2 lead and we took advantage of that.

--

Athletic Bilbao 4 (Llorente 34, Muniain 61, Johannsson og72, Griezmann 77)
Celta Vigo 3 (Inigo Perez 41pen, 79pen, Johannsson 87)

It seems we dont do boring games!!!

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Garrido 23, 47, 74)
Levante 0

My backups did the job here. Iker missed an early penalty.

--

UEFA Champions League SF 1st Leg

Athletic Bilbao 1 (Peruzzi og71)
Manchester City 0

A good win but it could have been better as we had a 2nd goal disallowed.

--

Sevilla 3 (Rubio 33, 66, 76)
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Galan 42)

I sacrificed this game to be honest in preparation for our next match. That said we did have a goal disallowed.

--

UEFA Champions League SF 2nd Leg
Manchester City 0
Athletic Bilbao 0
(Athletic Bilbao win 1-0 on aggregate)

Once again we had a goal disallowed and thankfully it didnt prove to be costly.

SUMMARY

A good month. Although the title is not yet ours it can only be a matter of time. In the Champions League we have managed to reach the final where we will play Paris Saint-Germain - hopefully we can win that to make it 3 Champions League wins.

The only other news is that it seems Fernando Llorente is on his way as he refuses to talk to me about a new contract.

MAY

Espanyol 2 (Joselu 5, Timor 64)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Inigo Martinez 4, Lucas 10, Guillermo 64, Muniain 78)

This win puts us a step closer to securing the title.

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Llorente 26pen, Muniain 54, 71)
Villarreal 1 (Fernandez 60)

We just need 1pt for the title now. Llorente is battling it out with Neymar to be the top scorer - both are on 30 goals.

--

Real Valladolid 0
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Llorente 50, Guillermo 75)

CHAMPIONS!!!!!

We get our 5th title in a row with this victory here and Llorente scored which was a bonus.

--

Athletic Bilbao 6 (Garrido 23, Iker 33, 61, 82pen, Llorente 45pen, Bragana 66)
Gimnastic 2 (Fernandez 56, Quiroga 71)

Amazingly we had 3 goals disallowed in the first half! Llorente and Neymar both scored one so Llorente wins!!!

--

UEFA Champions League Final
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Inigo Martinez 23, Romero og48, Iker 111)
Paris Saint-Germain 2 (Cavani 85, 86)
AET

CHAMPIONS OF EUROPE AGAIN!!!!

After the first half I was annoyed that we werent winning by 5 as we battered them. The game was over however but then they struck twice in 2 minutes to take it into extra-time. Thankfully Iker struck the winner.

SUMMARY

We end the season on a high as everything ended well. We won the title and managed to get Llorente to finish as the top scorer. The only disappointing part was the 3 disallowed goals against Gimnastic - a 9-2 win would have been something!!!

In the Champions League we managed to win the cup but nearly threw it away criminally and it took an extra-time goal from substitute Iker to win us the cup.

An end of season post is to follow.

END OF SEASON POST

Another successful season but yet again there is room for improvement. We won the title with 2 games to go so it was closer than in previous years but we scored 131 goals in the league campaign alone so we probably should have been even further ahead.

We failed to win the Copa del Rey unfortunately but we did win the Super Cup easily enough. As for Europe, we managed to get our hands back on the Champions League trophy after defeating PSG in the final. Hopefully now that my youngsters have tasted success in the biggest of stages in European football we can go on to dominate.

I am looking for perfection - this is what I want to achieve............

Unbeaten league campaign
100% win record in a league campaign
Win everything in one season
Be unbeaten in one season
And why not go for a season where we win every game???

Squad wise there was no disappointments. Arroyo impressed in his first season in goal, Azpilicueta had his best season for us while the rest were solid but Alastuey and Bragana excelled when called upon. Urdaniz broke into the side in CM and looks as though he is going to be a beast while possibly the biggest surprise was the emergence of Alfonso who was magnificent.

Attacking wise my main 4 performed as expected and Iker, Garrido and Lasa all greatly impressed.

In the news regarding the Euros - Guillermo finally got his first call up to the full squad but got cut for the championships!!!!!!

My B team retained the Liga Adelante title and have now won it 3 out of the last 4 seasons.

AITOR HERRERA APPOINTED MANAGER OF SPAIN!!!!!!!

Spain got knocked out by eventual winners England in the quarter-finals so I immediately declared my interest in the job and applied for it when Fresnedoso got sacked and they offered the job to me.

Guillermo will finally get his long overdue senior cap now.............
