Going well mate. I am in Spain with my Real Union side (I have won the Prem and Serie A on this save) They have got a tycoon and was in second division b2 so I took charge and am now storming through the leagues improving youth facilities on the way. What is the best way to get spanish talent before Barca and the Madrids get them?

Nice. Easiest way is to become Spain manager so automatically every new regen is on your player search screen when it is intake day - hence why i am so desperate to become manager of Spain here.

If you arent at the top of Spain and are competing with the big 2 for a prospect just bullshit him and tell him he will be a key player and offer a couple of extra grand in wages! lol

JANUARY

Athletic Bilbao 6 (Guillermo 28, 78, Llorente 43, 47, Laporte 67, Griezmann 85)
Osasuna 2 (Torres 44, Mera 86)

A great way to kick-off the new year with a derby win. My problems in CM continue though as Nieto got injured and is out for 4 months - his 3rd serious injury.

--

Copa del Rey 5th Round 1st Leg

Athletic Bilbao 4 (Guillermo 28, Griezmann 32, Llorente 35pen, Muniain 42)
Real Betis 2 (Chuli 36, Ruffier og82)

RDG, Nieto, Lucas, Galan, David, Alex and Sebas were all missing here so Martinez started in CM and did a job. Never had so much injuries in one position before.

--

Valencia 4 (Thauvin 44, Otamendi 53, Canales 67pen, Vazquez 83)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Llorente 38pen, 45pen, Susaeta 90)

Our first defeat of the season. What was really annoying was they had a man sent-off and still managed to score a 4th.

--

Copa del Rey 5th Round 2nd Leg
Real Betis 0
Athletic Bilbao 1 (San Jose 11)
(Athletic Bilbao win 5-2 on aggregate)

My backups did enough - we even had 2 goals disallowed.

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Griezmann 5, 42, Ayala og34)
Espanyol 0

A good win. RDG made his comeback from injury.

--

Copa del Rey QF 1st Leg

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Guillermo 13, Llorente 39)
Real Madrid 0

A solid performance and a good result which should stand us in good stead to progress.

--

Atletico Madrid 7 (Diego Costa 7, 58, 62, Leo 46, 82, Dezotti 65, Hofmann 78)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Llorente 16, Iker 24, Griezmann 50, Alastuey 56)

Ruffier got an average rating of 3.8 - enough said.

--

Copa del Rey QF 2nd Leg
Real Madrid 1 (Icardi 73)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Lucas 20, Inigo Martinez 58)
(Athletic Bilbao win 4-1 on aggregate)

I wasnt expecting to win this to be honest but somehow we did!

SUMMARY

A very busy month which had its ups and downs. On the field we lost our first 2 games in the league this season including an 11 goal thriller against Atletico Madrid but we made it through to the cup semi final by beating Real Madrid. Our deadliest rivals, Real Sociedad lie in wait in the semis.

Great news was had off the field as Antoine Griezmann won the World Player of the Year award while Guillermo retained the European Golden Boy award.

I made an error regarding one of my prospects though as Alejandro Rivero has agreed to join Barcelona on a free at the end of the season. He has been in the B side and at 18 looks as though he is developing well but he rejected my contract offer. At least I can bring him back in the future though.

Cheers mate! Only in Liga Adelante at the moment but looking like I will probably go up again for my second successive promotion. I don't expect to be able to poach most players at the moment because of my rep but I have a great financial backing when Real Union get the rep. Perks of being Spain manager is that I can just give regens their first caps and will be on their favoured lists :)

FEBRUARY

Alaves 1 (Suarez 31)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Susaeta 3, Muniain 28, Llorente 58pen)

--

Copa del Rey SF 1st Leg
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Guillermo 7, 32)
Real Sociedad 0

Our play deserved more here. They never had a shot at goal while we had 33 attempts with 12 on target - a near perfect performance.

--

Athletic Bilbao 1 (Muniain 54)
Real Betis 1 (Quintilla 53)

Pathetic.

--

Copa del Rey SF 2nd Leg
Real Sociedad 0
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Susaeta 22)
(Athletic Bilbao win 3-0 on aggregate)

My backups did the job here but it was another horrible performance.

--

Elche 1 (De Lucas 85)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Llorente 1, Iker 50, Ruiz de Galarreta 52)

A decent win but it should have been more comfortable as we had 2 goals disallowed.

--

Athletic Bilbao 7 (Llorente 1, 6, Guillermo 16, 32, 63, Muniain 28, Ruiz de Galarreta 77)
Getafe 3 (Suarez 35, Chrisantus 67, Pedro Leon 73)

Our monthly crazy game! We were rampant in the first half and scored 5 in just over half an hour. Herrera returned from injury here too.

--

UEFA Champions League 1st Round 1st Leg
CSKA Moscow 1 (Balde 19)
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Susaeta 81)

CSKA were tough opponents here but I still think we will have no problems in the 2nd leg.

SUMMARY

Not the best of months truth be told. We struggled through most of the games apart from the 2 good performances against our rivals Real Sociedad and Getafe. We did make it through to the Copa del Rey final though and will play Atletico Madrid.

The league is pretty much over - just waiting for the trophy lol

Youth intake next month!!!

MARCH

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Laporte 1, Griezmann 19, 80)
Real Valladolid 0

Nice and easy.

--

Real Sociedad 3 (Negredo 37, 57, Mane 44)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Llorente 7, Muniain 72, Griezmann 87)

Disappointing not to win but considering we were 3-1 down and a man down after Guillermo got sent-off I will happily take a point.

--

Athletic Bilbao 4 (Llorente 8, Iker 10, Laporte 77, Griezmann 81)
Villarreal 0

A decent victory. Iker impressed at AMC as he came in for the suspended Guillermo.

--

UEFA Champions League 1st Round 2nd Leg
Athletic Bilbao 2 (San Jose 69, Llorente 111pen)
CSKA Moscow 1 (Dudu 24)
(AET Athletic Bilbao win 3-2 on aggregate)

We got away with it here. CSKA had a goal disallowed early on in extra-time which would surely have been enough to knock us out.

--

Malaga 0

Athletic Bilbao 0

I was given the option of postponing this game but declined. This is the first time we have failed to score in the league this season.

SUMMARY

Another patchy month to be honest. We drew a couple of games and won the rest but we didnt obliterate any of our opponents as I have come to expect now!

We made it through in Europe where we will play Man City. It is the strongest last 8 I can ever remember seeing as also through are Real, Barca, Man Utd, Chelsea, Juve and Bayern!!!

The youth intake was average. One player apparently could be the best in his generation but I dont see that happening........

APRIL

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Griezmann 15, 30, Llorente 39)
Mallorca 0

--

UEFA Champions League QF 1st Leg
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Llorente 21, 90pen)
Manchester City 1 (Sandro 15)

We got the win despite having Laporte sent-off but their away goal may prove costly.

--

Barcelona 1 (Brandt 5)

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Gonzalez 20, Griezmann 46, Iker 80)

Beating Barcelona away from home is tough enough and to do it with a few players missing is even better!

--

UEFA Champions League QF 2nd Leg
Manchester City 4 (Aguero 34, 67, 78, De Bruyne 70)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Muniain 15, San Jose 87)
(Manchester City win 5-4 on aggregate)

**** SAKE!!!! If we were full strength we would have made it through methinks but it wasnt to be.

--

Real Madrid 2 (Cristiano Ronaldo 65, El Shaarawy 90)
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Muniain 72)

Two defeats in a row!!! Understandable though.

--

Athletic Bilbao 6 (Laporte 5, Urdaniz 15, Llorente 22, 70, Inigo Martinez 31, Ibai Gomez 45)
Granada 0

We bounce back in fine style here. I am especially pleased for young prospect Urdaniz as he scored his first goal for us.

--

Athletic Bilbao 4 (Llorente 4, Griezmann 15, Azpilicueta 18, Muniain 46)
Sevilla 1 (Doumbia 81)

Another easy win.

This was an incredibly tough month with a run of 3 fixtures that was a nightmare. We beat Barca away but got eliminated from the Champions League by Man City and also lost away to Real Madrid.

SUMMARY

The final month of the season was a great success as we won every match and grabbed the Spanish Cup in doing so. What was even more pleasing (and scary) was when I was looking at my u19s for players to draught into the side I found it very difficult as so many are developing brilliantly - such are the joys of management.

End of season review to follow.

END OF SEASON

Season number 6 is over and done with and it was a fairly successful one as we won the league, cup and the two super cups while my B side won the Liga Adelante.

The title was never in doubt as we scored a record amount of goals and pretty much tore the league apart which seems to be the norm now. The only challenges in the league left now is to have an unbeaten season and a 100% season.

We sneaked the Super Cup on away goals and edged out PSG in the European Super Cup but our efforts in the Champions League were to no avail as Man City knocked us out at the quarter-final stage. It seems we may have won it too early!!!!

Player wise there were some outstanding performers. Griezmann is the World Player of the Year, Guillermo won awards galore and relished being a first pick, Llorente banged in the goals and created plenty while Laporte had another strong season at the back.

Iker, Garrido, Gonzalez, Rubio and Lucas all furthered their development also not to mention numerous other players in my system.

At the end of the season the board announced they are expanding the stadium by 16,000 seats, that the club is debt free, that they are improving the training facilities and that we are getting 17m a year more in sponsorship money!!!

Going into the game several of my players were either low in fitness, needing a rest or injured so to come through this and win is very pleasing.

PRE-SEASON

A helluva lot of changes this summer. I had planned on Iraola's retirement (he left the club completely - i forgot to renew his coaching contract oops) and had planned on selling maybe 2 first team squad members but in the end I sold 5 plus a few key players in my B team.

I am left with a first team squad so young that instead of being in charge of a football team I feel like I am in charge of a nursery!!!!

Just the two - both for the U19s and both for much cheapness.

Obviously the departure of RDG is the most surprising. I hadnt planned to sell him but after seeing how Urdaniz is developing I thought why not? He hasnt been scoring goals and only gets a few assists so I presume whoever comes in for RDG could do the same!

Ibai Gomez, Susaeta and San Jose were all backups and ageing a bit so I thought it was time to cash in and promote a few youngsters while Ruffier had his worst season for us, was 32y/o and I have about 6 decent young keepers in the system so it was time for him to go.

--

Atletico Madrid 2 (Zivkovic 19, Ayew 40)

Another fine victory! Nieto got his seasonal injury here. This time he is out for 2 months.

SUMMARY

A fantastic start to the new campaign as my new younger squad has started on fire as we scored 20 goals in only 4 games. Llorente was the star as he got a double hat-trick (and me a steam achievement) in the 8-0 thumping of Cordoba.

In the Champions League we have been drawn against CSKA Moscow (again), Dnipro and AS Monaco.

The regen development is very impressive. For the best talent do you make use of the B team or move them straight from U19's to the first team to have more control over their training?

If I know for sure they are going to be in my first team I will promote them before they make it to the B team. I use my B team for players that might make it but will be able to fill in from time to time.

From memory only Bragana has spent seasons in the B team before getting upgraded to the first team all the rest have gone from U19s to the first team or just straight into the first team
