Just asking but how do you maintain so much motivation for this save when it's become so uncompetitive so early??

2022 FIFA WORLD CUP

SPAIN

GROUP H

Uruguay 1 (Pais 16)
Spain 2 (Guillermo 38, Isco 85)

Lineup - De Gea, Alastuey, Bartra, Inigo Martinez, Rubio, Urdaniz (Oliver), Koke, Guillermo, Muniain (Garrido), Isco*, Iker (Simeone)

A good start to the tournament but they had a goal disallowed to make it 2-0 and we immediately equalised.

Austria 1-0 Costa Rica

--

Spain 1 (Inigo Martinez 70)
Austria 1 (Alar 83)

Lineup
- De Gea, Alastuey, Bartra, Inigo Martinez, Rubio, Urdaniz, Koke (Darder), Guillermo, Muniain (Jese), Isco, Iker (Garrido)

This is an embarrassing result. We just struggled to score, and they never threatened but grabbed an undeserved equaliser late on.

Costa Rica 0-2 Uruguay

Spain 4 (Iker 27, 47, Alfonso 44, Asensio 70)
Costa Rica 0

Lineup
- De Gea, Montoya, Bartra, Bragana, Bernat , Urdaniz, Darder, Jese (Asensio), Muniain (Garrido), Alfonso*, Iker

Easy - to see my young prospects develop to their full potential and always setting targets for instance 100% season records etc

Great going, mate!!! Just wanted to ask if you will be aggressive during your team talks, especially when you draw or lose against a good team, or will you try to encourage them?

Lineup
- De Gea, Alastuey, Bragana (Montoya), Inigo Martinez, Rubio, Koke*, Darder (Oliver), Guillermo, Muniain, Isco, Iker (Garrido)

Thats much better. We had an early setback but after that we completely dominated.

Denmark 2-1 Holland
Turkey 0-0P Ukraine
France 0-0P Australia
England 1-2 Argentina
Germany 1-2 Belgium
Norway 1-0 Italy
Brazil 2-0 Austria

AET

Lineup - De Gea, Montoya, Bartra, Inigo Martinez, Bernat, Urdaniz, Koke (Darder), Guillermo (Jese), Muniain (Garrido), Alfonso, Iker

This was a great win in which two of my backups at club level fired in the goals to take us into the semis. Iker missed a penalty early on in extra time.

Ukraine 4-1 Australia
Denmark 1-2 Argentina
Norway 1-0 Brazil

--

Semi-Final

Spain 3 (Garrido 15, 39, Bragana 30)

Lineup - De Gea, Montoya, Alastuey, Bragana, Rubio, Darder, Koke (Oliver), Guillermo (Asensio) (Muniain), Jese, Isco, Garrido*

I am pleased with this win as the Ukraine have several great regens (and wierdly Morgan Schneiderlin) but we battled hard and won pretty easily.

How Norway got it to the final I will never know as they were rubbish here and we wiped the floor with them. This is my 2nd World Cup win!!!

PRE-SEASON 2022-23

So I am about to embark on my 10th season with the club and its fair to say we have done pretty well so far and I will do a special post at the end of the season!!!

Anywho this summer saw a couple of changes with one big name departing and I actually bought a couple of players too. As ever the board were quite grippy with my transfer budget and only gave me 463m to spend!!!!!!!!!

The board announced they were going to further increase the size of the stadium even though they were already expanding it so I dont know what is happening there but apparently when the work is finished the San Mames will hold 86,000 people - I think.

As an addition to last seasons review my B team bottled their run in and finished 3rd in the Liga Adelante when it was in their hands. Never mind.

--

PLAYERS IN

Nobody for the first team squad but these youngsters were brought in for 2.6m but on seeing them again I dont know why I bothered lol although Jimenez may turn out decent.
View attachment 375796View attachment 375795View attachment 375794View attachment 375793

My DoF tried to sign my former keeper and youth product Aizpurua for a whopping 33m!!!! I know I undersold him but he aint worth that much. He also tried to sign Ruiz de Galarreta again for 10m.

--

PLAYERS OUT

As you know Ander Herrera wanted out and he got a testimonial during the summer but nobody has come in for him yet amazingly - even on a free! So at the moment it looks as though he is staying put.

The big departure was Inigo Martinez who went to Paris Saint-Germain for 20m. He was immense for me and he made 280 appearances and scored 39 goals. I felt that to get that amount of money for a 31y/o was too good an opportunity to miss and I cant hold Alastuey back any longer.

Ruben Sanz left for Villarreal for 3.2m. He has been my top scorer for my B side for the past couple of seasons and Patxi Nieto is loaned out again. Raul Galan has returned to the club from his loan spell but has been demoted to the B team.

My B
team keeper attracted interest and I even got bids of 8m for him but I wasnt interested. I also received bids for a midfielder in the B team, Angel Diaz, of 7m but he too is staying.

--

SUMMARY

Into the first team squad to cover the abscence of Inigo Martinez is Alejandro who I signed ages ago for a pittance. Tarantino almost got the nod but his development is almost been reached to the max where as I feel I can turn Alejandro into a decent player. Hopefully he can grow like Bragana has.
View attachment 375792

Urdaniz will be my first choice CM, replacing Herrera and as I have said before, Alastuey will replace Inigo Martinez in the starting lineup.

Arroyo

Rubio - Laporte - Alastuey - M.Olaizola

Espericueta - Urdaniz

Muniain (LW) - Guillermo - Griezmann (RW)

Iker

Great going, mate!!! Just wanted to ask if you will be aggressive during your team talks, especially when you draw or lose against a good team, or will you try to encourage them?

If I am not winning at half time I nearly always threaten to murder my players and their families and that seems to do the trick!!!!

AUGUST

Getafe 3 (Saenz 54, Dimba 57pen, Murillo 82)
Athletic Bilbao 7 (Iker 6, 37, 47, 52, 70, Griezmann 80, 88)

What a start to the season this is!!! Iker was on fire and banged in 5 goals and got an assist. They even had a goal disallowed!

--

Spanish Super Cup 1st Leg
Real Madrid 0
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Guillermo 30, Muniain 54)

We were excellent here and deservedly won. They had a late goal disallowed which could end up being key.

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Laporte 5, Iker 36, 48pen)

Malaga 0

Iker's strong start to the season continues.

--

Spanish Super Cup 2nd Leg
Athletic Bilbao 6 (Garrido 20, 45, 48, Granado og25, Alfonso 28, 66)
Real Madrid 1 (Matic 43)
(Athletic Bilbao win 8-1 on aggregate)

WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I cant believe my backups just beat Real Madrid 6-1!!!! This was an amazing game and a special mention goes out to Jon Ander Olaizola who contributed 5 assists!!!!

--

UEFA European Super Cup

Manchester United 2 (Fierro 72, 82)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Griezmann 12, Iker 36, Urdaniz 47, Alex 75)

Another trophy for our ever expanding trophy cabinet.

--

Valencia 2 (Onazi 15, Cartabia 46)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Muniain 1, Iker 38pen, Espericueta 74, Lasa 82)

I am over the moon with this victory as Valencia have some terrific players and are a tough nut to crack but despite being without a few players we had enough fire power to come out on top.

SUMMARY

What a terrific start to the season!!! We are on fire at the minute with goals galore, especially from Iker who even managed to net 5 on the first day of the season. There were so many terrific performances this month as we picked up 2 trophies but the highlight has to be the 6-1 thrashing of Real Madrid where Jon Ander Olaizola (a wonderkid) starred by getting 5 assists - yet wasnt even the man of the match!!!

In the transfer window my DoF was busy as he set up a 39m deal to sign my former keeper Aizpurua, a 15m deal to sign my former CM Ruiz de Galarreta and a 1.6m deal to sign 34y/o Javi Martinez - naturally I rejected all of those deals.

I did however send out Diego Lasa on loan. Just hours after scoring the 4th against Valencia I offered him out to see if there were any takers and Panathinaikos came in with a loan bid which I accepted. He has not done anything wrong thus far for me as a record of 35 goals in 71 games suggests (40 starts) but I want to promote Jon Ander Olaizola into the first team squad so Lasa is the casualty.

SUMMARY

Our brilliant start to the season continued this month as we battered pretty much everyone that came up against us including Real Madrid. Methinks the form we are showing here is the best since I started here and it is highly enjoyable - especially since youth team graduates like Urdaniz, Alastuey, both Olaizola's, Garrido and Arroyo all shone.

More please!!!!

SPAIN

Friendly

Mexico 4 (Torres 1, Mendiola 56, Diaz 62, Aquino 64)
Spain 4 (Garrido 17, 36, Guillermo 45, 53)

Lineup - De Gea, Olaizola (Bragana), Alastuey, Inigo Martinez, Bernat, Koke, Urdaniz, Guillermo*, Jese, Isco, Garrido

Not bothered about the result but throwing away a 4-1 lead is not on. My club RB Mikel Olaizola is my new RB for Spain and he made his debut here.

--

UEFA European Championships Group G

Malta 2 (Gatt 21, Sciberras 43)
Spain 3 (Iker 44pen, Alfonso 64, Garrido 68)

Lineup - De Gea, Zaldivar, Bartra, Inigo Martinez, Bernat (Rubio), Koke, Urdaniz, Guillermo, Muniain, Isco (Alfonso*), Iker (Garrido)

A win is a win but this is not good enough. My 3 first picks at RB were all injured so I had to call up my backup RB at Bilbao, Daniel Zaldivar, who made his debut. Alfonso has 6 goals in 7 games for the national team.

Keep it going man. This is great.
Mind asking, what tactic r u using?

OCTOBER

Atletico Madrid 2 (Hacibektasoglu 20, Diego Costa 77)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Boyata og3, Laporte 31, Griezmann 71)

I am delighted with this victory as we win one of the toughest fixtures of the campaign. We are well on course for an unbeaten league campaign and have a 100% record at the moment!!!

--

Athletic Bilbao 2 (Griezmann 3, Garrido 72pen)
Sevilla 1 (Aycicek 1)

--

UEFA Champions League Group E
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Alfonso 14, Garrido 24pen, 50pen)
GNK Dinamo 0

A comfortable win from my backups. Jon Ander Olaizola had a goal disallowed.

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Urdaniz 11, Guillermo 34, Griezmann 57)
Real Murcia 0

A simple win with Griezmann once again being the star. I am waiting for him to dip so I can give regular footy to Alfonso but it just isnt happening!!!!

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Guillermo 58, Muniain 62, Griezmann 84)
Real Sociedad 2 (Bojan 24pen, Ignacio 47)

A great comeback here in the Vasco derby that keeps up our 100% start to the season.

Celta Vigo 0
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Iker 1, 27pen, 34)

Iker had gone several games without a goal but came back with avengance here!!

SUMMARY

Another month - all games played were victories and we scored a few goals - bog standard month!!!! There was one bit of news as I signed a new contract with the club and they are paying me 100k a week now - a rise of 13k. For a long while I was getting paid more for managing internationally than with my beloved Athletic Bilbao.

My B team is struggling a bit this season in the Liga Adelante and it seems mid table obscurity awaits them after challenging, and winning, the title for the past few seasons.

love the story the start to the season has been incredible especially ikers performances. i am looking at starting my own story although not with bilbao and i was wondering whether you had any advice. i was wondering whether i should run it with a full story or focus more on the actual game and the results in the matches.

Any one interested in voting on what story i should do or has any other advice are welcome to do so on the story page.

NOVEMBER

UEFA Champions League Group E
GNK Dinamo 2 (Strunje 35, 45)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Alfonso 43, Martin 49, Garrido 83)

This was a hard fought win as their 16y/o kid put us to the sword but we battled our way to victory and scored the winner despite being down to 10 men.

--

Athletic Bilbao 6 (Guillermo 17, Iker 20, 53, Griezmann 30, 62, 76)
Albacete 2 (Pepelu 52, 90)

A team like Albacete never had a chance against my lot. Its basically the Spanish national team against a lower league side.

--

Villarreal 1 (Guillermo 5)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Muniain 9, J.Olaizola 73)

A hard fought win. They had a goal disallowed fortunately for us.

--

UEFA Champions League Group E
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Garrido 85)
Bayer Leverkusen 0

I am happy here as this was a weak backup side I put out!!!!

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Laporte 4, Muniain 24, Iker 36)
Barcelona 0

Thats 15 wins out of 15 in the league this season and 23 out of 23 in total.

DECEMBER

Copa del Rey 4th Round 1st Leg
Prat 0
Athletic Bilbao 9 (Alfonso 2, 31, J.Olaizola 5, Alejandro 18, Garrido 21, 35, 43, Intxaurraga 39, Martin 43)

HOW THE **** CAN WE BE 9-0 UP AT HALF-TIME (WITH 9 SHOTS ON TARGET BTW) AND NOT SCORE IN THE SECOND HALF???? ****** OFF!

--

UEFA Champions League Group E
IFK Goteborg 1 (Gustafsson 82)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Martin 8, J.Olaizola 20, Garrido 55)

This win wraps up the group stage and as you know - we won every game!

--

FIFA Club World Cup SF

America (MEX) 0
Athletic Bilbao 6 (Zaldivar 10, Alfonso 36, 49, J.Olaizola 43, 50, 86)

I am beginning to run out of words of praise for my young backups. I expect them to win 9 out of 10 times now.

--

FIFA Club World Cup Final
Botafogo 0
Athletic Bilbao 4 (J.Olaizola 41, 90, Griezmann 54, Urdaniz 62)

I fielded a weakened side here and they came up trumphs. Jon Ander Olaizola is relishing his run of starts in the first team, albeit against weaker opposition. Another trophy!

--

Copa del Rey 4th Round 2nd Leg

Athletic Bilbao 5 (Martin 13, J.Olaizola 38, Lucas 45, Alfonso 50, 53)
Prat 0
(Athletic Bilbao win 14-0 on aggregate)

I would have liked to have scored more, especially since they had a man sent-off in the 1st half but it was not to be alas.

SUMMARY

5 games played and 5 games won with a goals scored average of over 5 goals a game says it all!!! My backups were on fire this month with Alfonso showing that Griezmann wont be missed when he goes and Jon Ander Olaizola was amazing and he will heavily feature in the future for sure.

I wont go as far as saying that we have won the Champions League as we have drawn against Basel in the next round but also through are the likes of Academica and Hoffenheim.

JANUARY

Copa del Rey 4th Round 1st Leg
Mallorca 0
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Bragana 13)

A narrow victory. Urdaniz had a goal disallowed.

--

Real Valladolid 0

Athletic Bilbao 5 (Gano del Campo og3, Iker 8, 15, Griezmann 24, Muniain 44)

At half time we were 5up and against 10 men yet we couldnt score in the 2nd half annoyingly.

--

Copa del Rey 4th Round 2nd Leg

Athletic Bilbao 4 (Guillermo 16, 31, Griezmann 34, Iker 77)
Mallorca 0
(Athletic Bilbao win 5-0 on aggregate)

This could have been 40-0!!!!!

--

Athletic Bilbao 9 (Muniain 3, 32, Mario og7, Iker 28, 54, Laporte 45, Griezmann 57, Vaca og76, Gonzalez 90)
Almeria 0

A fantastic victory. I would like to get into double figures in a game as we have scored 9 goals a few times now. We have kept a clean sheet in each of our last 7 games now.

--

Copa del Rey QF 1st Leg
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Guillermo 11, Iker 35, 57)
Real Madrid 2 (Nathan 17, Icardi 26)

And still we have won every game this season...........

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Alfonso 16, Muniain 22, Martin 72)

Getafe 0

--

Copa del Rey QF 2nd Leg
Real Madrid 1 (Matic 23)
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Guillermo 3)
(Athletic Bilbao win 4-3 on aggregate)

Yes we are through which is pleasing but Garrido had a winner disallowed which ends our 100% record for the season.

--

Athletic Bilbao 3 (Iker 3, 65, Urdaniz 43)
Valencia 1 (Samsonov 15)

I am pleased with this win as Valencia have some top notch youngsters - especially 2 of their Russians (they sold another in the summer).

SUMMARY

Another fantastic month but we failed to win for the first time this season however we still have a 100% record in the league!!!

Events on the pitch was par for the course really but events off the pitch was more interesting. In the World Player of the Year awards we dominated as these pics suggest.........
View attachment 371644View attachment 371643View attachment 371642View attachment 371641

Also I actually signed a player for a change as I brought in Angel from Barcelona for a fee of 2.8m.

FEBRUARY

Copa del Rey SF 1st Leg
Barcelona 2 (Paolucci 2, Fernandinho 40)
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Lorenzo og30, Iker 38)

A decent enough result considering we played most of the 2nd half with 10 men after Laporte got sent-off.

--

Malaga 0
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Garrido 1, Laporte 16, Iker 43)

--

Copa del Rey SF 2nd Leg

Athletic Bilbao 6 (Griezmann 3, 65, 81, Iker 13, 19, 89)
Barcelona 1 (Wellington 22)
(Athletic Bilbao win 8-3 on aggregate)

What a fantastic victory this is - especially since I was missing several players.

--

Sporting Gijon 2 (Zanetti 31, 62)
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Muniain 8, Iker 10, Garrido 80pen)

Sporting are in the relegation zone but proved to be tough opponents here.

--

Athletic Bilbao 8 (Iker 4, 9, 13, 53, Muniain 35, 73, Griezmann 37, Laporte 61)
Granada 1 (Fortounis 27)

Once again we narrowly fail to get 10 goals in a match not that I can complain too much about that!

--

Athletic Bilbao 2 (J.Olaizola 70, Iker 83)
Real Madrid 2 (Allione 10, Icardi 90)

Bang goes our 100% record in the league. Never mind - lets make sure we remain unbeaten!!

--

UEFA Champions League 1st Round 1st Leg

FC Basel 2 (Aeschilmann 24, Yilmaz 82)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (J.Olaizola 8, Garrido 27, Alfonso 44, 86)

I put out my backups here and they did enough to get the win and they will get a run out in the 2nd leg too. Jon Ander Olaizola had a goal disallowed also.

--

Espanyol 2 (Joselu 61, Jerez 87)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Griezmann 10, Iker 16, Guillermo 66, Laporte 90)

A decent enough win and we coped well with Muniain's early sending off.

--

Athletic Bilbao 6 (Guillermo 4, 61, Iker 14, Garrido 48, Alastuey 51, Rubio 90)

Real Betis 0

Another big win and that makes it 100 goals in the league this season.

SUMMARY

This month would normally be considered a great one but we failed to win twice which is unheard of this season! Having said that we had some great performances and scored a shedload of goals as usual with Iker starring once again as he got 13 goals during the month.

In the league we have hit the 100 goal mark and are averaging 4 goals a game - surely this will be our best chance to hit the 150 mark and go through the league campaign unbeaten.

Mallorca 1 (Chuma 63)
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Martin 23, 67, Alfonso 45, Iker 68)

I am aiming to score 4 goals in each league game to get to the golden target of 150.

--

Athletic Bilbao 1 (Garrido 23)
Atletico Madrid 0

I am not too bothered about the lack of goals as Atletico are one of the tougher sides that we face.

--

UEFA Champions League 1st Round 2nd Leg
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Bragana 9, Garrido 22)
FC Basel 1 (Yilmaz 81)
(Athletic Bilbao win 6-3 on aggregate)

This will be the last we will see of Alvaro Bragana for a while as he damaged his cruciate ligaments and is out for 8 months.

--

Real Sociedad 1 (Bojan 46)

Athletic Bilbao 1 (Iker 28)

This result was disappointing to say the least but they are still to beat us under my management.

SUMMARY

A quiet month this as we didnt have many games and we struggled in a couple of the ones that we did play. We managed to progress in the Champions League and we will play Inter Milan in the quarter finals.

The youth intake was ok with this lad being the best one.....
