SEPTEMBER
UEFA European Super Cup Villarreal 1 (Camacho 80) Athletic Bilbao 5 (Griezmann 3, Iker 18, Alfonso 26, 37, Muniain 60)
A good win and another trophy. Villarreal have a number of decent players on the periphery of my Spain team so the winning margin pleases me.
--
Barcelona 1 (Neymar 75) Athletic Bilbao 1 (J.Olaizola 74)
A tough even match which was pretty boring to be fair.
--
Spanish Super Cup 2nd Leg Athletic Bilbao 4 (Guillermo 31, Iker 35, J.Olaizola 40, Schouten og78)
Valencia 1 (Samsonov 8) (Athletic Bilbao win 5-2 on aggregate)
A fantastic win as I was forced to play my backups here due to the amount of games in such a short space of time. This was the first game since our stadium renovation was completed and it was a full house of 85,100!
--
Celta Vigo 2 (Johannsson 88, 90) Athletic Bilbao 5 (Rubio 9, Guillermo 19, Laporte 27, 76, Garrido 79)
Nice and easy win here. Guillermo also had a goal disallowed.
--
UEFA Champions League Group H Athletic Bilbao 3 (Iker 2, Alejandro 57, J.Olaizola 59) Anderlecht 1 (Decock 60)
--
Athletic Bilbao 5 (M.Olaizola 10, Guillermo 18, Alastuey 38, Muniain 45, Rivero 52) Real Valladolid 1 (Romero 43)
There were some unusual goalscorers here!!!! Rivero netted his first goal for the club which was nice.
-- Athletic Bilbao 3 (Iker 25, 68, Laporte 37) Real Murcia 0
Murcia tend to produce some decent youngsters but they didnt shine in this boring match.
--
Real Betis 3 (Gonzalez 15, 68, 74) Athletic Bilbao 5 (Iker 6, Guillermo 48, 83, 90, Gonzalez 72)
Betis forward Gonzalez caused my defence a load of problems but they subbed him immediately after scoring his hat-trick goal and we added another 2 after to win.
This was a crazy month as we pretty much had to cram all of August's games into this month. If you add the international games with Spain my players had to deal with 10 games during the month which was pretty hard going.
We coped well though as we avoided defeat and got a draw against Barcelona and scored 5 in a game 4 times.
SPAIN
UEFA European Championship Quals Group G Cyprus 1 (Perikleous 27) Spain 5 (Muniain 3, Alfonso 38, Iker 56, 85, David 88)
Lineup - Arroyo, M.Olaizola (Nestor), Inigo Martinez, Alastuey, Bernat, Urdaniz (David), Rivero, J.Olaizola, Muniain, Alfonso (Isco), Iker
Bad news here - Alfonso got injured and will be out for 5 months with a broken leg!!!! My current player, Rivero, made his debut as did my former player, David, who scored the last goal.
--
UEFA European Championship Quals Group G San Marino 0 Spain 8 (Guillermo 1, 23, 28, 57, J.Olaizola 17, Garrido 32, Gonzalez 53, Iker 86)
Lineup - Arroyo, M.Olaizola, Inigo Martinez, Alastuey, Gonzalez, Urdaniz (David), Rivero, J.Olaizola (Mandia), Muniain (Iker), Guillermo*, Garrido
This win secures qualification for the Euros. Mandia made his debut for Spain here too.
UEFA Champions League Group H FC Kobenhavn 0 Athletic Bilbao 3 (Goiria 27, Garrido 43, 84)
My backups did well here and Garrido got a rare game up front and scored a couple.
--
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Guillermo 36, Iker 61, Laporte 65) Valencia 0
A great performance. Laporte has now scored 6 in 9 this season!!!
--
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Garrido 73, Martin 83, Laporte 90) Sporting Gijon 0
We took a while to get going here but my subs came on and changed the game. Laporte strikes again!!!!
--
UEFA Champions League Group H Sampdoria 1 (Bernal 58) Athletic Bilbao 3 (Martin 45, 69, Garrido 52pen)
I took a risk here and put out my backups and they did fantastically well. Garrido netted his 100th goal for the club.
--
Granada 2 (Iancu 56, Joaquin 79) Athletic Bilbao 6 (Joaquin og9, Laporte 26, Iker 37, Guillermo 40, Alastuey 81, Muniain 90)
Another win another load of goals and another from Aymeric Laporte!!!!
This was a fantastic month as we won all of our games and very impressively too!!! Although we are not banging in 4 or 5 goals in every game like last season we are still performing really well and Aymeric Laporte has decided to challenge Guillermo, Iker etc to being my top scorer!!!!
UEFA European Championship Quals Group G Spain 1 (Isco 86)
Belarus 0
Lineup - De Gea, Nestor, Jaime, Alastuey, Rubio, Urdaniz, Rivero (Saul), Guillermo, Muniain, Garrido (Isco*), Iker (J.Olaizola)
We should have won 20-0 and didnt even allow them a shot on goal. Saul and Jaime made their debuts.
--
UEFA European Championship Quals Group G Georgia 1 (Shekiladze 36) Spain 4 (Rubio 6, Guillermo 58, Urdaniz 68, J.Olaizola 73)
Lineup - De Gea, Nestor*, Jaime, Alastuey, Rubio, Urdaniz, Rivero, Guillermo, Muniain (Santiago), Isco (J.Olaizola), Iker (Garrido)
A fine way to end the campaign and continues our 100% record in qualifying. Guillermo had a goal disallowed and Santiago made his debut.
NOVEMBER
Getafe 0 Athletic Bilbao 4 (Iker 10, 26, Laporte 82, Muniain 85)
LAPORTE DOES IT AGAIN!!!!!
A standard victory. Getafe have Mario Gotze in their ranks surprisingly. Bragana returned from injury here.
--
Athletic Bilbao 3 (J.Olaizola 21, Laporte 44, Rivero 45) Real Sociedad 0
This is getting stupid. Laporte has gone goal crazy this season.
--
UEFA Champions League Group H Athletic Bilbao 2 (Garrido 22, Martin 63) Sampdoria 1 (Torres 67pen)
This win secures qualification. Garrido missed a penalty after I decided not to make Herrera be my penalty taker as he is 5 short of getting 100 goals.
--
Athletic Bilbao 6 (Griezmann 8, Garrido 12, 35pen, Laporte 19, 42, Urdaniz 67) Almeria 0
A big victory and another 2 goals for Aymeric Laporte - thats now 11 in 12 league games!!!!
--
Sevilla 2 (Berto 35, Dimba 49) Athletic Bilbao 2 (Iker 40pen, Muniain 64) This was very poor as they only had 3 attempts at goal and played half the match with 10 men.
--
UEFA Champions League Group H Anderlecht 2 (Simons 27, Melkebeke 86) Athletic Bilbao 5 (Garrido 34, 63, 89, Bragana 47, 61)
Garrido also had a goal disallowed here.
Almost a perfect month with the only slip up being the draw against Sevilla. Aymeric Laporte has had an incredible start to the season and incredibly is the top scorer in the league at the moment which is completely crazy biscuits!!!!!
Next month will be fun as my backups will play the majority of the games.
Lineup - De Gea, M.Olaizola (Nestor), Alastuey (Bragana), Jaime, Rubio (Gonzalez), Urdaniz, Rivero, J.Olaizola, Muniain (Asensio), Isco (Martin), Iker (Garrido)
This result and performance is just simply atrocious. On the plus side we did manage to stop Aymeric Laporte from scoring!
UEFA Champions League Group H Athletic Bilbao 6 (Alejandro 12, 33, 71, Garrido 15, Zaldivar 22, P.Olaizola 87) FC Kobenhavn 0
A fine win by my backups with the youngest of the Olaizola's getting his first goal for the club.
--
FIFA Club World Cup SF ES Tunis 1 (Mlik 56) Athletic Bilbao 5 (Martin 3, Iker 11, J.Olaizola 49, Gonzalez 61, Garrido 73)
Into the final we go. Iker missed a penalty.
--
FIFA Club World Cup Final Monterrey 1 (Sanchez 76) Athletic Bilbao 4 (Guillermo 54, Iker 58pen, 63, M.Olaizola 79)
Another trophy for the cabinet. Mikel Olaizola's goal means all 3 of the "Olaizola brothers" have scored this month.
--
Copa del Rey 4th Round 1st Leg Athletic Bilbao 6 (Bragana 11, Lucas 21, E.Ugarte 39, J.Olaizola 46, Garrido 57, Martin 79)
Castellon 0
Eneko Ugarte got his first of what I expect to be many goals for us here.
--
Athletic Bilbao 7 (Muniain 15, Laporte 30, Griezmann 52, 71, 89pen, J.Olaizola 66, Martin 90) Gimnastic 0
Before the game I had a war of words with their manager and its safe to say I shut him up after this score!!!
We averaged over 5 goals a game here this month as my backups did exceptionally well and won yet another FIFA Club World Cup. My first teamers did make an odd appearance but mainly it was all down to my youngsters.
We got a very kind cup draw domestically as Real Union are going to be our opponents but in the Champions League we have a tricky tie in the shape and form of Manchester United.
Regarding Spain, in the Euros we will play Belgium, Israel and Russia.
Copa del Rey 4th Round 2nd Leg Castellon 0 Athletic Bilbao 5 (E.Ugarte 4, Martin 31, 84, J.Olaizola 35, Alejandro 85) (Athletic Bilbao win 11-0 on aggregate)
Nice and easy. Txus Martin was recently crowned as the best young player in Europe and he was the star of the show here.
--
Atletico Madrid 1 (Zivkovic 42) Athletic Bilbao 3 (Urdaniz 53, 88, Griezmann 63)
This is an impressive victory as Atletico, despite having an ageing team are one of the tougher nuts to crack in the league.
--
Copa del Rey 5th Round 1st Leg
Real Union 0 Athletic Bilbao 4 (E.Ugarte 1, 45, 76, Garrido 25)
I currently have Eneko Ugarte in my youth team but he is way too good for that level as he showed here.
--
Athletic Bilbao 1 (Rubio 39) Cordoba 0
This is not acceptable as we had 35 shots on goal yet could only find the net once!
--
Copa del Rey 5th Round 2nd Leg Athletic Bilbao 4 (Garrido 9, J.Olaizola 43, 82, Alex 90) Real Union 0 (Athletic Bilbao win 9-0 on aggregate)
Copa del Rey QF 1st Leg Athletic Bilbao 2 (Guillermo 26, Rubio 90) Atletico Madrid 1 (Valades 46)
Once again this was disappointing as they had old man Diego Costa sent-off in the 1st half and we struggled to kill them off.
--
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Guillermo 13, 58, Laporte 16, Muniain 77) Malaga 0
My backup keeper Iban Beorlegui got his debut here today as Arroyo got injured in training during the week.
--
Copa del Rey QF 2nd Leg Atletico Madrid 1 (Sanabria 17) Athletic Bilbao 2 (Iker 59, Zaldivar 66) (Athletic Bilbao win 4-2 on aggregate)
I am happy with this win as we progress to the semis.
There was lots happening this month with matches, transfers, awards and the like. Firstly on the field we won every game and without completely destroying teams with huge scorelines we were pretty comfy throughout.
In the yearly awards Guillermo won both world player of the year awards and deservedly so although I would have liked Aymeric Laporte to have won one. Txus Martin won the European Golden Boy award which I thought would go to Jon Ander Olaizola.
I signed 2 players. Igor Santisteban came in from Barcelona for 83k and will play for my B team while Ibai Lopez came in from Osasuna for 775k. View attachment 368559View attachment 368557
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Iker 33pen, 81pen, Bragana 56) Barcelona 0
I was without a few players here so to come out of it unscathed is pleasing. The unbeaten league campaign is on!!!!
--
Copa del Rey SF 1st Leg Athletic Bilbao 1 (J.Olaizola 52) Celta Vigo 1 (Santaella 65)
**** OFF!!!! We had 33 attempts to their 2 and we are in a tricky position now if we are to qualify for the final.
--
Real Valladolid 1 (Sergio 59pen) Athletic Bilbao 2 (Iker 57, J.Olaizola 85)
Alfonso finally made his return from injury here and he duly picked up a knock and had to be replaced by man of the match Jon Ander Olaizola.
--
Copa del Rey SF 2nd Leg Celta Vigo 0 Athletic Bilbao 1 (Garrido 81) (Athletic Bilbao win 2-1 on aggregate)
--
Athletic Bilbao 5 (Iker 29, 31, Muniain 37, 78, Alfonso 86) Celta Vigo 1 (Alberto 82)
After two recent closegames against this lot they were overdue a thumping and we duly dished one out.
--
UEFA Champions League 1st Round 1st Leg Manchester United 2 (Fierro 20, Henriquez 34) Athletic Bilbao 2 (Iker 14pen, Goiria 90)
This was a joke. They had a man sent-off in the 1st half and we tried to take advantage of that but the referee disallowed goals from Guillermo and Iker the *****. Thankfully Goiria struck in stoppage time to give us the slightest of advantages.
--
Athletic Bilbao 6 (Griezmann 2, 28, Muniain 10, Iker 54, 81, Martin 90) Real Betis 2 (Jairo 3, Cedrick 67)
Griezmann missed a first half penalty here thus denying him a hat-trick.
--
Athletic Bilbao 3 (Guillermo 58, Martin 86, Alfonso 90) Levante 0
We struggled a bit here and didnt come to life until I made my triple substitution. Muniain has now made more appearances for the club than anyone else.
We were pretty strong this month and won most of our games and in the games we didnt we should have - especially against Man Utd. Lets hope those 2 goals disallowed dont come back to haunt us.
A big boost for us was the return of Alfonso to full fitness after he broke his leg earlier in the season. Thankfully his attributes havent dropped much so he should be back to his best soon.
Iker Muniain broke the record for most league appearances with the club as he notched up number 467 against Levante.
Real Murcia 1 (Pablo 68) Athletic Bilbao 3 (Muniain 22, Iker 45, 53)
--
Valencia 3 (Dovbnya 7, 29, Griezmann og40) Athletic Bilbao 3 (Iker 17pen, Alfonso 69, Garrido 86)
I am pleased that we got a point and remain unbeaten but once again we struggled against 10 men as they had a man sent-off early on. Iker missed a last minute penalty.
--
Sporting Gijon 2 (Kolar 2, Ayoze 87) Athletic Bilbao 5 (J.Olaizola 26, 51, 86, Iker 53, 69)
I fell out with Jon Ander Olaizola the day before this match as he demanded 1st team football and I refused to promise him that. If he scores hat-tricks when he is unhappy then he better be prepared to be one angry player!!!
--
UEFA Champions League 1st Round 2nd Leg Athletic Bilbao 2 (Guillermo 38, Iker 73pen) Manchester United 0 (Athletic Bilbao win 4-2 on aggregate)
Man Utd were actually the better side here as shown by the fact that my keeper Arroyo got the man of the match award.
--
Athletic Bilbao 5 (Iker 13, 36, 76, 90, Alfonso 41) Granada 0
Iker had a goal disallowed here too.
--
Athletic Bilbao 7 (Guillermo 2, Iker 43, 50, 57, 75pen, Griezmann 48, Laporte 55) Getafe 1 (Saenz 18)
Another 4 goal haul for Iker!!!
This was a great month as we put up some pretty impressive scorelines and performances both individually and as a team. The standout player of course was Iker as he scored in every game and scored 14 goals in total during the month and it could have been more!!
The youth intake was ok. Nobody really special but we did get a half decent keeper which I wanted as my youth team have been playing without a keeper for a couple of seasons now.
UEFA Champions League QF 1st Leg Juventus 1 (Pajac 90) Athletic Bilbao 1 (Iker 8pen)
Naturally I am disappointed that we didnt hold on to the win but a draw is a fair result.
--
Real Sociedad 0 Athletic Bilbao 5 (Iker 2, 53pen, 78pen, 83, Griezmann 16)
For the 3rd league game in a row Iker has scored 4 times. This was a good win as we had Gonzalez sent-off early on.
--
UEFA Champions League QF 2nd Leg Athletic Bilbao 4 (Alastuey 28, J.Olaizola 96, 100, Guillermo 109) Juventus 2 (Bastos 88, Pogba 102pen) (AET Athletic Bilbao win 5-3 on aggregate)
What a game!!! Juventus had an early goal disallowed which proved to be costly as we came out on top in this thrilling tie. When they equalised I thought we were out as my players were tired but we battled back and the pace of Jon Ander Olaizola won us the match.
--
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Iker 4, J.Olaizola 20, Garrido 35, Rosell og51) Sevilla 1 (Oliveira 60)
We were crowned champions before the match so it was just a procession really. Now to get to the end of the league campaign unbeaten!!!
Copa del Rey Final Real Madrid 1 (Nathan 79) Athletic Bilbao 2 (Griezmann 52, Alfonso 92) AET
I am obviously pleased that we came out on top to retain the cup but I really didnt want to go through extra-time!
--
UEFA Champions League SF 1st Leg Tottenham Hotspur 3 (Benali 8, Lamela 15, Kamphuis 78) Athletic Bilbao 3 (Iker 1, 28, 53)
We fluked this result as they had 20 attempts to our 4!!! Iker was superb and got yet another hat-trick.
--
Villarreal 1 (Santiago 61) Athletic Bilbao 2 (P.Olaizola 15, Martin 46)
A good win. Martin had a goal disallowed in the 1st half but he still scored to get his 50th for the club.
A great month was had here!!! We secured the title as well as the Copa del Rey and have a decent chance of making it through to another Champions League final.
We had some tough games during the month including the cup final against Real Madrid and the European games against Juventus and Spurs.
As we go into the final month of the season we have the chance of not only being unbeaten during the league campaign but also in all competitions!!!!
UEFA Champions League SF 2nd Leg Athletic Bilbao 1 (Griezmann 21) Tottenham Hotspur 1 (Benali 5pen) (Agg 4-4, Athletic Bilbao win on away goals)
This was the opposite to the first leg as we dominated and Spurs got an undeserved draw but it is us that goes through.
--
Athletic Bilbao 4 (Guillermo 18, Muniain 68, J.Olaizola 74, Urdaniz 82) Real Madrid 0
I am delighted with this win as it means we are a step closer to being unbeaten. I didnt play my backups here!!!!
--
Athletic Bilbao 2 (Muniain 40, Aranburu 75) Atletico Madrid 1 (Vico 44)
Another potential stumbling block is successfully navigated!!!!
--
Levante 1 (Gaitan 37) Athletic Bilbao 3 (P.Olaizola 12, 14, 58)
Patxi Olaizola always seems to impress me whenever he plays and has a chance to be in the first team squad for next season.
--
Real Madrid 2 (Noyes 44, 88) Athletic Bilbao 3 (Griezmann 5, Iker 31, 86)
FANTASTIC!!!! All we need now is to avoid defeat against Cordoba.
--
Cordoba 2 (Bruno 54, Femenia 67) Athletic Bilbao 4 (Garrido 13, Alejandro 15, 82, Martin 27)
WE GO THROUGH THE LEAGUE CAMPAIGN UNBEATEN!!!!!
Now to try and go through the WHOLE campaign unbeaten........
--
UEFA Champions League Final Athletic Bilbao 2 (Iker 67pen, J.Olaizola 86) Chelsea 0
WE GO THROUGH THE WHOLE SEASON UNBEATEN!!!!!
And we were lucky here. They dominated throughout and had an early goal disallowed. We were hanging on and Arroyo made some great saves which helped earn him the man of the match award. The game turned when we converted a penalty and they had a man sent-off.
What an end to the season as not only did we win the Champions League again but we managed to remain unbeaten which means we went through the entire campaign undefeated. The final few games saw me introduce a few new players and the likes of Patxi Olaizola and Ibai Lopez looked good as did my backup keeper Beorlegui who came in for a spell due to Arroyo's injury.
Another magnificent season in which we chalked up 2 of my targets - to go the whole season unbeaten and therefor to have an unbeaten league campaign. My other 3 (apart from discovering the new Aitor) is to win every game in the league, then every game in a season and to get 150 goals in a league campaign.
In the Liga BBVA campaign we were obviously unbeatable and won the title by 26pts ahead of Valencia. We scored 144 goals so agonizingly 6 short of my target and ended up with a goal difference of +107. We had 6 players get into double figures in the league while Iker struck 37 times in 32 games.
The Copa del Rey and Spanish Super Cup were won easily enough as was the European Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup.
In the Champions League my backups won an easy group before my senior guys came in to dispose of Man Utd, Spurs, Juventus and then we flukily defeated Chelsea in the final.
Regarding my squad my players generally performed as expected and there was nobody who disappointed. Despite ageing Griezmann is still a world class player, Iker is still goal crazy but this season Aymeric Laporte scored a silly amount. Alfonso's injuries disrupted his season and that was the only downside.
My B team did ok and once again finished in a would be promotion spot while my U19s won everything in sight again.

Lineup - De Gea, Nestor, Alastuey, Bragana, Gonzalez (Rubio), Oliver, Rivero (Martin), Alfonso, Muniain (Santiago), Guillermo*, Iker (J.Olaizola)
Not a bad start to the summers football!!!
Lineup - De Gea, M.Olaizola, Alastuey, Bragana, Rubio (Gonzalez), Urdaniz, Rivero (Oliver), Alfonso, Muniain, Guillermo (Martin), Iker*
A nice start to the tournament here. Iker had a late goal disallowed
We werent at our best but Bulgaria werent good enough to take advantage of that fact thankfully.
Norway 1-2 Croatia Serbia 0-3 Ukraine Latvia 1-2 Wales Italy 0-1 Belgium Georgia 3-4 Scotland France 1-1 Holland (France win on pens) England 2-4 Russia
England and Italy going out is a boost. Methinks France will be our main challengers.

QUARTER-FINALS
Spain 2 (Iker 83, 105) Scotland 1 (Graham 7) AET
Lineup - De Gea, M.Olaizola (Nestor), Alastuey, Inigo Martinez, Rubio (Gonzalez), Urdaniz, Rivero (Oliver), Alfonso, Muniain, Guillermo, Iker*
Scotland as co-hosts proved to be tough opponents but we just managed to sneak through.
Belgium 0-1 Wales Croatia 2-2 Ukraine (Croatia win on pens) France 2-1 Russia
Lineup - De Gea, M.Olaizola, Alastuey, Tendillo, Rubio (Gonzalez), Urdaniz, Rivero (Martin), Alfonso, Garrido (Santiago), Guillermo, Iker*
A great win but I am gutted that Alastuey will miss the final due to his sending-off. I didnt play Muniain because he was a booking away from a suspension. Croatia 1-0 France
