An English Mourinho: Introduction
*This is my first attempt at a FM Story even though I have been playing FM/CM since the late 90?s, so thought I would give it a go. I know that FM 2013 will be released in the near future so I will play and update this until the new game is released, basically this will be a practice for a full career on FM 2013. I have chosen to be my beloved Middlesbrough as a start off point. I have not downloaded the latest patch so have just updated the Boro squad to this season with editor. Not sure what kind of style I will be using while writing the story, just going to see how it pans out and develops! I welcome and points of view and constructive criticism as the story progresses. Hope you enjoy and hopefully I can make my first FM Story a good one*

Middlesbrough FC has appointed Robbie Robinson as the new man in charge of team affairs at the Riverside. Tony Mowbray will remain at the club and assume the role of Assistant Manager and advise Robinson in the early years of his reign.Robinson has been at the club for 10 years now, having been spotted at an early age coaching a local team in Middlesbrough. The club began to nurture the talented youngster, sending him on a global tour of world Football to learn and study. He spent time with European Clubs learning coaching techniques and styles of play, along with languages and ways to communicate with players. He spent time in Africa and Asia making connections and developing his understanding of true World Football. Finally he spent 2 years coaching a youth team at Santos in Brazil, taking them to various youth titles, along the way he has established a fondness with the Brazilian team which could develop into a Partnership in the near future. Along with the study of football, Robinson also gained a degree in Psychology and various Sports Science and Development qualifications as well as his UEFA B Licence.
2012-09-11_1940.png

Middlesbrough have not had much success in their history, although their brightest spell has been in the last few years, with a League Cup Final win against Bolton Wanderers and a Europa Cup Final appearance which ended in a 4-0 defeat to Seville. Decline followed soon after and Boro have struggled to regain their place in the top flight and have lost their way. The years of dedication that Robinson has put in and the investment that Middlesbrough Chairman Steve Gibson has made to ensure that Robinson has had the best training and development is clear for all to see, but the next few months and hopefully years will tell the true story of this ambitious plan to create Englands very own Special One?

8 Year Plan
Steve Gibson has set out his template for what he hopes Robinson will achieve in the next few years. Although Middlesbrough are secure financially, the transfer budget in the first few seasons will be tight and emphasis will be placed on developing young players through the famed Youth Academy, which has produced the likes of Adam Johnson, Lee Cattermole and Stewart Downing. It is hoped that Robinson will have influence over the clubs he studied at over the last 10 years and may be able to entice young players to join from all corners of the globe.

An English Mourinho: Pre Season

I think that top 10 in first season in the Premiership will be quite hard, but good luck anyways!

An English Mourinho: Pre Season - July to August 2012

Going to stick to these main 3 formations,
1. (2-2-1-3-3) An attacking Formation that will hopefully get me plenty of goals but might be susceptible to counter attack and leak a fair few goals. Other negatives are the fact the wingbacks will be up and down constant through the game and will tire, so good fitness is essential.
2. (2-3-1-2-2) slightly more defensive with the DM easing some of the pressure off the DC. Going to use this against top teams with high attacking values and when defending a tight 1-0 lead.
3. (4-1-3-2) Flat back four will help with the condition of the Full-backs and DM link the Defence with the Attack, though a large space in the centre of midfield could cause a problem if the Midfielders are not mobile enough.

Key Players:

GK - Jason Steele ? Came through the academy and is now an England U-21 regular. Potential to be a top GK with hard work and can establish himself in the Premiership if given a chance.
Rating: Top 10 Premiership GK
Steele_zps5aa2f916.png

WBR ? Justin Hoyte ? Fast Wing back with average abilities, will do ok in Championship, but could struggle in top division.
Rating: Teams Weak Link, Championship Player at best
Hoyte_zpscd54882a.jpg

WBL ? George Friend ? Signed from Doncaster on a free, good defensive attributes but needs to work on Fitness and Stamina to cut it as a Wing Back. Still only 23, he has time to develop in the next few seasons.
Rating: Average Premiership Player
George%20Friend_zpsf7d6d2e7.jpg

DC ? Rhys Williams ? Another player to come through the Youth Academy, there are high hopes that Willaims can make it to the very top. Superb Work Rate and Leadership skills make him ideal choice to skipper the Boro team to glory, as long as the big clubs can be kept at bay.
Rating: One to watch
Rhys%20Williams_zpsf8e7824b.jpg

DC ? Jonathan Woodgate ? You have to have been a good player at some point to have played for Real Madrid, although injuries have been a problem in the past, if fit Woodgate is one of the best defenders around, hoping to establish a strong defensive partnership with Rhys Williams.
Rating: Top Class, when Fit
Woodgate_zps71c92686.jpg

DM ? Grant Leadbitter ? Strong defensive midfielder signed from Ipswich Town to replace the departing Barry Robson. Will be the main man at the centre of the Boro Midfield for what is sure to be a tough campaign ahead.
Rating: Average Premiership Player
Grant%20Leadbitter_zps27ffccfb.jpg

AMC ? Josh McEachran ? On loan from Chelsea and tipped as one of the brightest prospects in English Football. Fantastic passing ability, but lack of strength means he could struggle in this division. Once back in the Premiership and if he works hard could become a top player.
Rating: Top Premiership Player of the Future
Josh%20McEachran_zps0ddf69ff.jpg

AML ? Emmanuel Ledesma ? Could be a dark horse this season, signed on a free from Walsall, Ledesma can play anywhere in the Midfield and can also play as a Striker. With brilliant Technique and Finishing skills he should finish the season with either a top scorer award or provide the most assists.
Rating: Potential Player of the Year
Ledesma_zpsb34c94bf.jpg

AMR ? Mustapha Carayol ? Speedy and hardworking Attacking Midfielder, it is hoped he will form a good partnership with Ledesma on the opposite wing and create problems for defences nationwide.
Rating: Average Premiership Player
Carayol_zpsaedfe56d.jpg

FC ? Marvin Emnes ? In his 5th Year at Boro and frozen out by former Manager Gordon Strachen last term. A fit and Fast player could cause problems for defences, but his lack of strength and poor ability to control the ball could cost him a place in the first team if better options are found.
Rating: Average Premiership Player
Marvin%20Emnes_zps219772ee.jpg

FC ? Lukas Jutkiewicz ? Has the potential to be a key player for the team and still only 22, with hard work could develop into a very prolific striker for Middlesbrough. Signed from Coventry City for 1.5m and could prove to be a bargain.
Rating: Possible Top Scorer
Juke_zpsbf46af19.jpg

Others:

GK ? Connor Ripley ? Youth Academy Product, Potential Championship Ability
DC ? Matthew Bates ? Boro Local will provide cover in defence
MC ? Faris Haroun ? Belgian Midfielder, used as a Backup Player
AMR ? Merouane Zemmama ? Skilful Winger will be used as an impact player
AML ? Adam Reach ? Top Quality Youth product, should be a First Team regular in a few seasons
AMRL ? Cameron Park ? Another quality youth product and can play on either wing
MC ? Richard Smallwood ? Vice Captain and has the potential to be a top player and furure Boro Skipper
FC ? Curtis Main ? Strong Striker with good potential
FC ? Luke Willaims ? Tricky Striker and good Youth Product

Overall the squad is a little thin, the First Team is capable of achieving promotion, but if the team suffer from injuries then the players coming in will have to step up and produce. There will need to be a few additions in the transfer window to strengthen the Defence and the Wing Back positions seen as there is only 2 recognised WB in the team.

Pre-Season Schedule:
Schedule_zpsf4505fbe.png

2 Ties with Local teams followed by a 16 day, 4 game tour of Sweden.

Billingham v Middlesbrough
Billingham_zps653c6b1b.png

Not much you can really say about this, totally outclassed Billingham, good start to blow out the cobwebs!

Middlesbrough v Whitby
Whitby_zps09210b0e.png

Yet another top class performance, although Whitby were a far inferior team!

TOUR OF SWEDEN
Swedish%20Tour_zpse19b1aa6.jpg

Hammarby TFF v Middlesbrough
Hammarby_zpsd56df929.png

Good pressure througout the game leading to an own goal on 22 minutes, then near total dominance enabling Emnes to score twice and Reach to grab one!

Helsingborgs IF v Middlesbrough
Helsingborgs_zps4fd791bb.png

Pretty even game throughout, with Boro adopting a more defensive approach which went against them!

IFK Goteborg v Middlesbrough
Goteborg_zps38d98dd2.png

Unlucky to go one down, but rallied to equalise only for Goteborg to score 5 mins later, struggled to take hold of the game!

Trelleborgs FF v Middlesbrough
Trellerborgs_zps0207afe5.png

Went one down but pegged it back to 2-1 and were in control of the game, lost concentration towards the end and Trelleborgs deserved the goal 8 minutes from time!

Overall a good pre-season and despite the 2 losses managed to work out what works and what doesn?t work regarding formations and players in certain positions. So hopefully the base of the squad will be capable of producing some good performances and if further players are added to improve the playing staff, I think there is a good chance the team will make a minimum of the Play-Offs.

Transfer News:
2012-07-04_1910.png

IN - Not much going on with the team regarding players coming in. Kleberson has been touted as a possible player to strengthen the Midfield depending on wage demands and work permit application.

OUT ? A host of Youth Players have been released as well as Joe Bennett joining Aston Villa for 4m and Jonathan Grounds joining Doncaster. Barry Robson will be joining Vancouver shortly and there is a possibility of Kevin Thompson joining Derby.

TRANSFER NEWS
2012-07-04_1910.png

Middlesbrough have announced their first signings under new boss Robbie Robinson. The Boro board are pleased to announce the arrival of 2 new players that they believe will be integral to helping the club achieve promotion this season.

KLEBERSON

Kleberson_zpsdf606122.png

Former Brazilian International who signed for Man Utd in the summer of 2003 for 6m. Jose Kleberson was supposed to be the catalyst to drive Utd onto future glory, unfortunatley things didnt work out at Utd and he moved to Besiktas in Turkey, where he stayed for 2 years. Further spells at Flemengo and Atletico Paranaense over the last 6 years have kept him busy, but the move by Robinson is seen as his last chance to prove what type of player he could have been. Robinson has stated that Kleberson has been signed to provide competition for Grant Leadbitter and has been signed at a cost of 300k.

YAYA SONOGO

Sanogo_zps2933a9de.png

Boro have also captured Auxerre Striker Sanogo on a season long loan. Capped at French U16, U17 and U19 Levels, Sanogo in one of the hottest prospects in French football. At only 18 years old he has shown great potential and could push the first choice Boro Strikers for a starting place if he adapts well to the Boro style of play. Robinson is apparently delighted at the signing and will do his upmost to extend the loan or if funds become available, purchase the striker outright.

Some brilliant signings there! Keep it up

We will see, Kleberson is a bit of a risk as he may turn out to be as useless as he was at Utd but at 300k its not too much of a loss. Sanogo however is a steal, hopefully its not too early in the game for him to perform consistently.

RESULT

Attendance 19472

Boro started off the brighter of the two teams and after just a minute Marvin Emnes tested the reflexes of Barnsley keeper Luke Steele, but it only took another 6 minutes for Emnes to play a perfect through ball into the path of Emmanuel Ledesma, who calmly took it round the keeper and slotted home. Just 5 minutes later a shot from Boro boy Jonathan Woodgate took a deflection of a Barnsley defender and fell to Grant Leadbitter, who in turn stroked the ball onto the lively Emnes who finished with a powerful shot to the right of L Steele. A large period of Boro dominence followed and it wasnt until the second half that Barnsley began to get a grip of the game, unfortunatley for them Lukas Jutkiewicz slotted home the third after a through ball by Muzzy Carayol. Adam Reach came on for the largely dissapointing Josh McEachran. Andy Gray nodded home after neat work down the left by Jay McEverly, but it was al too late for Barnsley as the livewire Emnes bagged his second on 81 minutes. Emnes left to loud applause from the Boro faithful and was replaced by new boy Yaya Sanogo, who had little time to make any impact.

Among the new faces, Deitmar Hamman has joined as a First Team coach, Les Ferdinand as an Attacking coach and Ray Clemence as the Goalkeeping coach.

Middlesbrough have been handed a very tough away trip to English Heavyweights Manchester City.
Boro Boss Robbie Robinson,
"We have been handed a very tough tie with the away trip to Man City, hopefully the lads can put together a good performance as I'd like to progress as far as possible. We are looking at a cup win as a possibl early entry into europe next season"

Other News:

Tottenham and Man City joint top of Premiership after 3 wins from 3 each
Sunderland Docked 9 points for going into recievership
Hartlepool Top League 1
Barnet Top League 2

Transfer Centre:

A quiet month for transfers as Robinson tries to figure the strength of his current playing squad. Kleberson was signed for 300k, Yaya Sanogo was brought in on loan and on transfer deadline day brought in young German U-19 Wing-Back Johannes Geis to act as cover/competition for Justin Hoyte.

Johannes Gies

There were rumours that Robinson tried to use his links in South America and attempted to bring in Brazilian star Oscar, but at this time he felt a loan move would not benefit him.
Rumours were also circulating that Robinson approached Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes and Michael Ballack but with no sucess.

Just a quick question to anyone following this story!

Do you guys reckon it would be better to update after every game or monthly like i have been doing?

I may just keep it the same and do one off updates for bigger and more important games!

Any thoughts!!

MAN CITY LINE-UP

Man City have dropped a few key players for the visit of Middlesbrough, but the presence of Nasri, Milner and Barry in the centre of Midfield could cause Boro problems.

BORO LINE-UP
Boro_team_v_man_city_zpsb2c0f7f8.png

Looks like Boro will be sticking with their usual formation and putting their faith in new German youngster Johannes Geis at Right Wing-Back. Robinson has opted for a very attacking lineup which hopefully means Boro are going all out for the win. Yaya Sanogo is dropped to the bench and Lukas Jutkiewicz starts upfront along with top scorer Marvin Emnes.

So its 1st in the Premiership V 1st in the Championship, lets see how much of a difference there really is between these two clubs.

STAY TUNED!!!
