Arsenal FC: Demotion

The story so far

Corruption in football has been a problem in some countries over the years. Juventus were stripped of their Serie A title and demoted to Serie B a few seasons ago, with many other clubs receiving point deductions and massive fines. Luckily, corruption ceases to exist in the English game, or at least, it has never been highlighted.
How ever, The F.A, in partnership with FIFA and UEFA have indicated that if any English club is found to have been involved in any kind of match fixing or anything of the sort, then they would be demoted to the bottom tier of English League Football. The Spanish F.A have also backed the idea and implemented the idea into their league System. The rest of Europe seem to favour the idea too, but Germany and France would rather punish the culprits, rather than the team themselves.
But many in the European Public and Media believed that these rules were the worse possible outcome in any given situation, and believed that the world would never see this kind of punishment.

The Arsenal Celebration

Arsenal were to celebrate 125 years of history in the upcoming 2011/2012 campaign. They had just reached the qualifiers for the Champions League. As soon as the last campaign finished, Thiery Henry and his New York Red Bulls were welcomed to the Emirates Stadium.

June 2011
Arsenal Vs New York Red Bulls
From The Emirate Stadium, London Att 60,000

It was a feel good day as the Arsenal faithful welcomed back their Hero, Henry. Arsenal bossed the match but going into half time, it was 0-0. After the break, Arsenal upped the pressure and Walcott managed to give them the lead on 61 minutes, tapping into an empty goal. Walcott then doubled the lead with a sweet 25 yard effort. Cesc Fabregas was rumoured to be leaving for Barcelona and he left with a parting gift, scoring a penalty on 89 minutes. Going into added time, the Arsenal players parted like the red sea and let Henry waltz down towards goal, with Fabianski stepping to one side, allowing Henry to score. The Arsenal fans cheered their hero, the Arsenal players and staff clapped as Henry saluted the crowd. Arsenal win 3-1.

Tottenham Anger

The Arsenal players had left to go on their pre season break, all going off on their holidays. Even Arsene Wenger took a weeks break in the French country side. How ever, a storm was brewing. Henry was interviewed by a French sports magazine and he had indicated that Arsene Wenger had told him that he would score the last goal of the game, no matter what. Henry said he was delighted and loved hearing the Arsenal fans cheer his name.
At White Hart Lane, Daniel Levy was about to hold a press conference. Rumours were rife that Modric would join Chelsea, or he had just confirmed the signing of a world class player. How ever, Levy had indicated that he had put a formal complaint into the F.A about match fixing. He said that the Arsenal/New York game had been sanctioned by the F.A and UEFA. He mentioned that nearly every one had put a bet on Henry to score at some point, which he did. He went on to say that the game was fixed and the most damming evidence was the fact that the Arsenal players stepped aside, allowing Henry to score. Every one in the media was shocked and had to await a F.A and UEFA response.
Arsenal Favourite, Ray Parlour, was heard on Talksport slamming Levy, stressing that nothing would come of the matter, how ever, UEFA and the F.A were silent.

2 weeks later
Finally, after rumours had spread like wild fire, Platini was ready to speak about the situation. From a convention centre in Paris, Platini gave his verdict.
He said that he expected the F.A had already held an investigation and that UEFA would support any decision made by the F.A. He said that if Arsenal were found guilty then they wouldn't be able to appeal because of a anti corruption contract signed by all League clubs in Europe.
A day later, the F.A released their statement.
They indicated they take any report of match fixing and corruption seriously, whether it be a friendly game or the F.A Cup final. They said that Levy had raised a complaint and found Arsenal Guilty of Match Fixing, using Henry's interview as evidence. They also said they would announce Arsenals punishment in the coming weeks, whilst also saying that if they didn't punish Arsenal after they had found them guilty, then UEFA would ban English Teams playing in Europe.

The Aftermath

Arsenal fans were furious, Arsenal legends were calling Levy a small minded and ignorant idiot, whilst Tottenham fans were hailing him as a hero. Then, Breaking news on Sky Sports News, The English F.A had demoted Arsenal to League 1. Wenger left his post as manager straight away, saying he would never manage in England again, in protest. Fabregas was stunned and this helped push his move to Barcelona through, whilst Nasri demanded a move to Manchester City, which went through almost straight away.
In East London, Hammers fans were over the moon, as they had been promoted back into the Premier League with Sheffield United regaining their spot in the Championship.

Arsenal were in turmoil. Who would want to leave next? who would take over the reigns as manager?

Liking it so far , quite a realistic storyline aswell , well maybe not from Arsenal , more likely to come from Tottenham ;)

Wenger's hand picked man!

With one side of North London licking their wounds and the other side celebrating like they'd won the Champions League, Arsenal received a little bit of good news. They were facing a player exodus, Inter and A.C Milan were sniffing around their star players, Manchester City were rumoured to put in stupid bids along with Chelsea and Manchester United. Tottenham were even trying to grab a bargain.
UEFA had insisted they wouldn't revoke Arsenals European License and allowed them to play in this seasons Champions League, which was great news, as Peter Hillwood said that it would keep Arsenals top stars happy.

Peter Hillwood announced that the new manager would be unknown Drezzy Drezdenov. Drezzy said he was delighted to be taking charge at Arsenal but had some serious work to do. He noted that bigger names had turned down the job because of the on going corruption saga.

Drezzy said that there was about £40 Million available to spend but his main goal was convincing players to stay.

Arsenal Top Stars back Hillwood

Theo Walcott released a statement shortly after Drezzy had been announced as the new Arsenal manager. He said that every one at Arsenal was committed to the cause and wouldn't be leaving. They backed Hillwood and Drezzy and would work hard to get Arsenal back into the top flight.

Arsenal Announce Pre Season match ups

Arsenal were due to play in Madrid against Real Madrid and Atletico, in Germany against Dortmund and a home game against Inter Milan, how ever, each team pulled out leaving Arsenal to re-arrange their pre season.
Arsenal had already sold out the Emirates Cup which included Barcelona, Juventus and Celtic but they all pulled out, leaving the competition in tatters.

How ever, Arsenal were pleased to announce that rather then playing in Madrid, they would travel to South End in their first Pre-Season friendly before traveling up to Scotland to take on Dundee United. Rather than play in Germany, Arsenal would be making a quick trip to the United States to play Colorado before jetting back to host French side Paris St Germain, instead of Inter Milan.
Arsenal fans were also said to be delighted when Hillwood announced that the Emirates cup would continue as an Arsenal Tradition, as Genoa, Espanyol and Hoffenheim had excepted invitation to the competition.

Transfers in under Drezzy

After bids were accepted for Lewandowski and Derdiyok, Drezzy knew that signing players would be harder then first thought, Arsenal was no longer seen as a prestiges club, it had lost that since their demotion, it was seen as a sinking ship. No big name player wanted anything to do with the club.

Drezzy's first piece of business was to bring in Daniel Sturridge on load from rivals Chelsea. Sturridge made it clear that he would never have joined on a full time basis and was looking forward to going back to Chelsea already

Martin Keown was throwing names at Drezzy every single day, but Keown understood the need to keep every one at the club, the main emphasis was not on signing players. But one that did catch Mr Drezzy's eye was Deulofeu who played for Barcelona. After a long transfer negotiation period, Arsenal finally snapped up their man for £10 Million. On the transfer, Mr Drezzy said that although the price was a little steep, they had knocked Barcelona down in price. They had originally wanted £15 Million plus a buy back clause and a percentage of any future transfer.

Another player that caught Mr Drezzy's eye was Central defender Rhodolfo from Sao Paulo. He cost Arsenal £10.25 Million. On the Signing, Mr Drezzy said "I've taken a huge risk with this player but if trained right, i believe he can become a legend at this club, like Sol Campbell and the like"

Mr Drezzy stressed to Arsenal fans that they needed to keep players at Arsenal and commented that there would probably be no more signings unless the right player was available at the right price

Transfers out under Drezzy

Youngster Watt was sold off to Portsmouth for £100,000. Mr Drezzy wished Watt the best in his future and hinted that the deal had already been done before Mr Drezzy took charge of the club, how ever, he didn't seem to bothered by it.

Levy has the last laugh

DanielLevy460.jpg

Just days before Npower League 1 Championship kicks off, Daniel Levy was all over the press wishing Arsenal "luck". He said that he was shocked Tottenham were the only club to complain about the situation, but justice had finally been served and Tottenham has finally had their revenge on Arsenal, after Tottenham were denied promotion in favour of Arsenal back at the turn of the last century.

When asked about Levy's comments, Mr Drezzy said that Levy was a sad little man, a stupid idiot and a bitter douche. He said that hardly any one today was alive when the historical situation took place and that even though Arsenal were two leagues behind Tottenham now, they were still a bigger club, with a richer history and were in the Champions League...Tottenhams holy grail

Arsenal to rest top stars for Exeter visit

Arsenal manager Mr Drezzy announced that he would rest his top stars ahead of their game against Exeter City. He indicated that Arsenal needed their top players fully fit as they face a tricky trip to the Ukraine. Many Arsenal fans applauded his decision, citing that they needed to progress as far as possible in the Champions League. How ever, Tottenham fans, amongst others, took to the airwaves to complain. They said Arsenal were a disgrace and were treating League 1 like the carling cup. How everm Exeter City fans have said they would rather play Arsenal under 11's, saying they would love a historic win in London

Managers thoughts and notes:

"We struggled in the first ten minutes but when we scored our first, i was more at ease. Exeter did try to take the game to us but come the second half, we were too much for them and Walcott punished them on the break. There were certain aspects i was unhappy about but a game is played over 90 minutes, not 10 so over all, i am pleased."

Drezzy: Van Persie is critical in Europe

Before their game in the Ukraine, Arsenal Manager Mr Drezzy said that every one needed to be focused, especially star striker Robin Van Persie, who had just rejected notions of a move to Tottenham. Mr Drezzy said that Van Persie had reassured him that he was never going to play for Tottenham and was in the form of his life.

Managers thoughts and notes:

"Kiev attacked us from the get go and hurt us with an early goal. They peppered our goal but we proved to be dangerous on the counter attack, and this proved to be the story of the first half. We didn't defend well at all but we attacked with brilliance and i was happy to go in to half time with a 5-2 lead. How ever, we were on the back foot in the second half and were lucky to only concede 1 further goal.
We need to work on our defence for the home game otherwise this Kiev team could punish us and could easily score enough goals to give them victory, we have alot of work to do"

Mr Drezzy: I'll rest top stars again

Mr Drezzy has again promised to drop at least 6 first team players ahead of the Wycombe Wanderers game, mentioning that he needs them 100 percent right for the Dynamo Kiev game.

Arsenal 3-0 Wycombe Wanderers

Managers thoughts and notes:

"I wasn't impressed at all, we lacked motivation and were far too content to let Wycombe attack us. We had a wild ten minutes before half time where we could have scored 7 or 8 but the 3 goals we scored were enough to give us the win. The second half, well, i cannot complain, we lacked conviction but we had clearly already secured the victory"

Charlton kick off League 1 debate

Charlton Athletic's chairman indicated in the Sun newspaper that Arsenal should be forced to sell their star players, as it was unfair that they were allowed to play at this level. There was no response from Arsenal but Oldham manager Paul Dickov laughed it off, saying that Arsenal in League 1 should be every teams wet dream, as their presence should raise awareness of the league and bring in the fans, which inturn would create more money for the smaller clubs

Managers thoughts on the draw:

A very interesting draw across the board but our main concern is qualifying from Group A. Valencia will provide strong opposition both home and away whilst Udinese will be difficult, as they knocked FC Bayern out in the last round. We also face a tricky trip to Turkey to play Trabzonspor. But i am quietly confident of progressing, as long as we stay fit and have no serious injuries

Van Persie Injured: Arsenal Hot shot injured on International duty

Arsenal Manager, Mr Drezzy, said that Robin Van Persie was crucial to Arsenal, especially in Europe, this year. But they will have to do with out him for at least a month after Van Persie broke his ribs after clashing with Simone Lisi, in the Holland vs San Marino clash
In other injury news, promising Spanish starlet, Deulofeu, is out for a further 3 weeks after spraining his ankle in an under 19's match against Sweden. Deulofue had only just recovered from a thigh strain.

Managers thoughts and notes:

"I wasn't impressed with our first half display. Granted, we had some tired legs from internationals but we were still too sluggish. We were lucky Yeovil were shy in front of goal. Our second half wasn't as bad, but it still wasn't good and i was relieved when Sturridge headed home near the end. Not good enough but we still picked up the points today!"

Henry set to return?

Before Arsenal's Champions League game against Trabzonspor, there were rumours flying around that Thierry Henry could find himself back at Arsenal in January. Henry was quoted in the New York times expressing his guilt for Arsenal's plight. Arsenal Manager Mr Drezzy refused to comment

Managers Thoughts and Notes:

"Wow, what a first 30 minutes. It was back and forth, but we were able to take the advantage, and as soon as Ayaz scored an own goal, i think the game was over. Their heads dropped and Walcott slammed the nail into the coffin with that Beauty of a goal. In the second half, we contained them very well, killing off their attacks in the early stages, i really couldn't ask for more

Arsenal 4 - 0 Hartlepool
Chamakh (16, 48), Koscielny (30), Gervinho (71)
From The Emirates Stadium, London Att 58, 266

Managers Thoughts and Notes:

"We were cruising from the first whistle to be fair, although Hartlepool did set up defensively very well. They seemed like they didn't want to attack and would rather keep the score down. Our players deserve all the credit, they never gave up even though Hartlepool done a very good job at frustrating us.!"

League Cup 3rd Round

Q.P.R 0 - 2 Arsenal
Gervinho (42), Koscielny (55)

"Q.P.R tried to contain us today which they seemed to do with ease on their small pitch but our quality showed when Gervinho went on a sublime run, taking the ball past 5 players and then scoring, what a goal! We made 6 changes to the squad, giving some of our fresher players a game, and they handled them selves extremely well against tough, Premier Division opponents!"

Levy: I could get use to this
In the Daily Mail, Daniel Levy has taken another Pot Shot at Arsenal by declaring he could get use to Arsenal not being in the Premier League. He said that he was sick and tired of the "I didn't see it" brigade, and it was a breathe of Fresh air to not have them around.
In response, Arsenal manager Mr Drezzy laughed it off, stating that Levy wants all teams expelled from the Premier League, so Tottenham could win it. Drezzy continued speculating that Tottenham would still struggle to win.

"It was an even game, with both teams creating great chances, the difference was Udinese took their chances. Sturridge was unlucky, hitting the wood work twice and i really think his goal should've stood, he was clearly on side, but we need to lift our heads and continue to fight for points"

Very interesting story, i will be closely following. good work :D

Of course, but it's more then just playing in League 1, It's an unfolding story

Good idea with this, some people are letting you down with this, but I'm praising you, you're in League 1 with Arsenal, you can't get into Europe with league placement, your only chance is the League Cup and FA Cup.

"Nothing went our way in the first half, we should've scored a hat full, but it was Valencia who scored the opening goal. But in the second half, we had a little more luck and put away our chances. This puts us in a great position to qualify for the next round, which is some achievement for us, considering our off field problems"

Walsall 1 - 3 Arsenal
Gnakpa (65)
Djourou (10), , Gervinho (55), Chamakh (90+3)
From The Bescot Stadium , Birmingham Att 10,928

Managers thoughts and notes:

"The first half wasn't special and i can safely say when Arshavin was knocked out, we were all a little stunned. I have no idea how long he will be out for. Again, we were a little shaky in the second half, every one was worried for Arshavin but we kept our composure and Gervinho scored what has to be our goal of the season so far. We we too happy to sit back and defend which let Walsall back into the game how ever, Chamakh showed his class as he added out third. Good performance under the circumstances"

Arshavin out for a month!

andrey-arshavin-03.jpg

Arsenal manager, Mr Drezzy, said that Arshavin was doing fine and is spending a few days in Birmingham City hospital before being moved to Reading. Mr Drezzy expected that Arshavin will be out for at least a month, maybe even 6 weeks. He was keen to add that Arshavin will not be rushed back to action!

Arsenal 2 - 1 Yeovil Town
Walcott (17, 40)
O'Briem (55), N'Gala SO (90)
From The Emirates Stadium, London, Att: 25, 543

Managers thoughts and notes:

"Were to start? I really don't know how we only scored 2 goals this evening. Their keeper was immense. It was good to see Diaby back in our midfield, bossing the middle of the park like he hadn't been away for so long. Our youngsters did well tonight, the only blemish on the game was N'Gala's disgusting two footed lunge on Chamberlain!"

F.A Cup 1st Round:

Notts_County_badge.jpg

Notts County 1 - 7 Arsenal
Stewart (24)
Van Persie (5, 9, 26, 44), Chamakh (17, 49), Mertesacker (21)
From Meadow Lane, Nottingham, Att: 11, 577

Managers thoughts and notes:

"I was extremely happy with out performance today. We're in League 1 but we're still a huge club with fans all over the world and it's important that a team like Arsenal is in Europe. UEFA allowed us to keep our place in the Champions League this season but let's be honest and look at our selves, we probably wont be winning that competition, although we will try our hardest to do so, so the F.A Cup is our only route into Europe next season. I'm not saying we will win the cup, we have alot of work to do, but if we want to be in Europe next year, then we simply cannot fail!"

F.A Cup 2nd Round Draw

Non league York will welcome Arsenal. York fans are over the moon with the draw and are tipping this game to be a money spinner. Elsewhere, Rotherham will play AFC Wimbledon at home and league 1 leaders, Brentford, welcome struggling MK Dons.

Arsenal 7 - 0 Carlisle United
Sturridge (5, 31, 45+3, 81), Chamakh (12), Walcott (39, 55),
From The Emirates Stadium, London, Att 51,598

Managers thoughts and notes:

" I really have nothing to say after this win. Carlisle didn't turn up and we punished them, good performance again. Spirits are high in the Arsenal Camp and another 3 points to help us towards our goal of promotion"

Charlton-Athletic-FC-The-Red-Red-Robin-351851.jpg

Arsenal 7 - 0 Charlton
Chamakh (1, 19, 54), Gervinho (8, 73), Van Persie (23, 71),
From The Emirates Stadium, London, Att: 60 361

Managers thoughts and notes:

"You know, i was expecting this to be our hardest test of the season so far, a tight London Derby, but Charlton folded after the first goal. My players were not worked at all but they were professional tonight. Every one is vying for a place in the next game against Trabzonspor, which could seal our European fate."

First signs of Trouble at Arsenal?

Manuel-Almunia.jpg

Manuel Almunia has hit out at manager Mr Drezzy, after the Arsenal manager refused to give Almunia an extended run in the first team. It has been a known fact for the past couple of season that Almunia is the Arsenal 3rd choice keeper. Almunia's contract is due to finish at the end of the season, and it is expected it will not be renewed, especially after his most recent outburst.

Trabzonspor.png

Trabzonspor 2 - 3 Arsenal
Glowacki (pen 24), Koscielny OG (86)
Sturridge (54, 59), Van Persie (79)
From Huseyin Avni Aker, Trabzon, Att: - 25, 249

Managers Thoughts and Notes:

"Well, the first half was extremely tough for us. They hit us hard and we lost Sagna and Vermaelen to injury in the first half. Vermaelen looks to be out for a month with a strain but Sagna should be ok for out next game.
In the second half, we took a different approach and it really helped us. We scored 3 brilliant team goals whilst Trabxonspor had no answer to us....how ever, it was a nail biting finish as we scored an own goal. I still feel they should've had some men sent off but non the less, we leave Turkey with the 3 points and qualify for the next round!"

Preston_North_End_FC.png

Arsenal 4 - 0 Preston North End
Van Persie (35), Chamakh (48, 54, 74)
From The Emirates Stadium, London, Att: 59,696

Managers thoughts and notes:

"I think we were all shocked by how well Preston played in the first half and they were unlucky to to go into half time a goal down. I had to give the boys a kick in the **** and it paid off, Chamakh responded well and scored a great hat trick. "

Johnstone Paint Trophy Semi Finals - South

Colchester-United-icon.png

Arsenal 3 - 0 Colchester United
Gervinho (13), Miyaichi (25, 80),
From The Emirates Stadium, London, Att:- 27,464

Managers thoughts and notes:

"We played well today, and i was impressed with Miyaichi who scored two wonder goals to help us into the Southern final. How ever, i am disturbed by Deulofeu's injury but we have no idea what the problem is at the moment. He looked in pain but we will not now more until tomorrow"

Promising Gerard Deulofeu out for 6 months!

13344

Mr Drezzy didn't expect the worst, but that's exactly what he got. Deulofeu has been putting in good performances for Arsenal reserves and has been sneaking into the first team. But now, after a sickening tackle in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, Deulofeu will be on the sidelines for at least 6 months as he tries to heal a broken leg

Good idea with this, some people are letting you down with this, but I'm praising you, you're in League 1 with Arsenal, you can't get into Europe with league placement, your only chance is the League Cup and FA Cup.

ha, you jinxed me.....got knocked out of the league cup ha

Kavanagh (65)
Fox (15), Sturridge (18, 77), Benayoun (pen 34),
From Bootham Crescent, York, Att: 7, 872

Managers thoughts and notes:

"We basically crushed York City today, they didn't stand a chance. I'm proud of the lads and some of the fringe guys might get an extended first team run considering how well they've played"

Walcott on the move to Anfield?

Theo.jpg

Rumours are rife on the back pages today indicating that Liverpool are the favourites to sign Arsenal's Theo Walcott. They are rumoured to put in a bid of around £6 Million. Tottenham have also been linked with Walcott, but believe that he is not worth more than £2.5 Million.

Gervinho (51), Chamakh (88), Robin Van Persie (90+2)
Siem De Jong (65)
From The Emirates Stadium, London, Att: 58, 548

Managers thoughts and notes:

"I was really happy with our performance today, we never gave up. We lost in Italy in the reverse fixture so i wanted to get a little bit of revenge here, and we did. Udinese did play well, but they didn't take their chances and as a result, bow out of the competition."

Notts County 0 - 2 Arsenal
Ramsey (5), Chu Young (87)
From Meadow Lane, Nottingham, Att: 11,031

Managers thoughts and notes:

"We came here not so long ago and out played Notts County, but they were a different team in the first half. We scored a lucky tap in on 5 minutes and Notts County made it **** for us from there. They stopped us playing football today, and if they had abit more upfront, they could've shocked us today. An average performance by us but Notts county should be proud, even though they lost."

MK Dons 0 - 3 Arsenal
Beevers S/O (89)
Koscielny (3), Miyaichi (13), Van Persie Pen (29),

From Stadium: MK, Milton Keynes, Att :- 18, 403

Managers thoughts and notes:

"The Dons tried to replicate what Notts county had done to us in our previous game, how ever, we were abit more lucky in front of goal, we were more fluid and dynamic which helped us gain a satisfying victory"

UEFA Champions League 1st Knockout Round Draw

Barcelona face a long and tough trip to Russia as they will take on Russian giants, CSKA Moscow.
Chelsea are clear favourites to progress as they have drawn Lille, but ex Chelsea man Joe Cole will want to add misery onto his old club.
There is a tasty tie as A.C Milan face Spanish side Villarreal, although Milan might just have enough to progress.
The other Milan team, Inter Milan, will take on Arsenal. Arsenal have played well domestically and in Europe where as Inter just scraped through and are not doing well in Serie A. This tie could go either way
Benfica are slight favourites to go through against passionate french outfit, Marsaille
Trabzonspor are rewarded with their good Group A performance with a match against lat years finalists, Manchester United
Manchester City will be favourites to go through to the next round, although they have a long trip to Russia when they play Zenit St Petersburg.
And finally, FC Porta take on Ukrainian champions Shakhtar. Porto will need a result in Ukraine if they are to have any hope of advancing.

From The Emirates Stadium, London, Att :- 58, 270

Managers thoughts and notes:

"I feel sorry for Stevenage, they are getting left behind in the league, they just look lost. But they didn't help them selves today, their defending was shocking and were lucky to concede only 11."

180px-Chesterfield_F.C..png

Arsenal 5 - 1 Chesterfield
Sturridge (27), Van Persie (32, 76), Gervino (83), Chu - Young (89)
Djourou OG (37)
From The Emirates Stadium, London, Att: - 52, 036

Managers thoughts and notes:

"This scoreline really flattered us and isn't a true reflection of the game. Of course i am proud of my players for scoring but much of the plaudits have to go to Chesterfield who came with a gameplan. They attacked us from the get go and probably could've scored a few goals if it wasn't for the brilliance of Szczesny."

200px-AFC_Bournemouth.svg.png

AFC Bournemouth - Arsenal game Postponed

Arsenal Manager Mr Drezzy was a little angry today as Arsenal's game with Bournemouth was called off due to light snow. He was angered as he felt the game could've gone ahead and now has even more of a fixture congestion going into the New Year

Chu - Young (26, 76, 83), Van Persie (45+2), Eger OG (46)
Alexander (41)
From The Emirates Stadium, London, Att : 60,256

Managers thoughts and notes:

"The first half was very tight. There were hard tackles and very few chances, a typical derby game. But we managed to edge the advantage going into the break. I feel their heads went down when Eger scored an own goal and we took it on from there. It was not an easy match for us!"

Jose Mourinho on Arsenal!

220px-Mourinho_CSKA_Moscow_05042010_2.jpg

Jose Mourinho was spotted at the Emirates earlier today and when apprehended by the press, he indicated he was there to watch Sagna. Clubs like Tottenham and Liverpool have been touted to make January bids for the player but Mourinho believes this is impossible. He said that Arsenal were still in the Champions League and believes this is the reason why Arsenal have kept their big stars. How ever, he fears for them next season as he believes Arsenal wont make Europe at all, and he says this is when he will strike!
