Rogério Ceni: the man, the myth. The goalkeeper that scored 131 goals for Sao Paulo during his long, illustrious career for the club. Winner of World Cup, Copa Libertadores, Club World Cup and many other trophies, Rogério is mostly remembered for his goal scoring ability, from both free kicks and penalty kicks, having surpassed the likes of José Luis Chilavert and René Higuita to become the highest scoring goalkeeper in the history of football. Rogério retired from football just a few months ago, his record will probably be safe for a long time... at least until the next scoring goalkeeper sensation appears...

Inspired by this awesome thread My Big Fat GK can score more than your Big Fat GK (Blast from the past challenge). I've wanted to join this challenge for a while though struggled to find a candidate worthy of being the next Rogério Ceni...

... and then Glauber Daniel appeared.

A product of our very own Juventude academy, Glauber has an exciting potential - touted as a future star keeper for Brazilian Série A - and most of all boasts promising attributes for this challenge with his 14 for Free Kicks and 11 for Penalties.

Follow Glauber's career throughout the years, in his quest to beat Rogério Ceni's record and establish himself as the top scoring keeper in the history of football!

A bit of context to understand Glauber Daniel's career. Led by famous manager Alberto Rossini, former third division club Juventude enjoyed a massive make-over as the 'Papada' won trophy after trophy since Rossini's appointment in 2015, climbing up divisions and becoming arguably the best team in Brazil and South America - and actually not only there...

Multiple Gaucho State titles, four consecutive Série A titles after back to back promotions from third division, success in Copa do Brasil and Copa Libertadores, and recently a Club World Cup title after a convincing win against Manchester City.

We have built a pretty impressive organization, consistently improving facilities and coaching staff and mostly relying on players sales to make profit and avoid expensive contract renewals - which we still do because the second we finished paying our debts the board announced plans to build a new stadium and made new, more exciting debts...

Our goal as a club is to maintain and increase our status as a continental and world powerhouse, and heavily rely on players produced at our own academy - which by the way is VERY good. These are current key players who were also produced at the club - exactly like Glauber Daniel.

Icaro Dresch: already a legend for Juventude, first wonderkid produced at the club, a winner of South America Golden Ball and a central figure in Papada recent success. Also one of the coolest FM names ever.

Fredinho: typical brazilian poacher that lives to score goals. Decided Club World Cup final with a couple of amazing solo goals, the ideal partner in crime for Dresch and another wonderkid from the Papada academy.

Edgar Machado: another wonderkid striker from youth setup, might actually be the best based on potential - until the next one of course... Our academy apparently can't stop producing top quality strikers...

Of course Juventude want to keep winning and improve as much as possible, but this isn't really a Juventude story: this is a Scoring Goalkeeper story, this is Glauber Daniel's story.

Next: Focus on Glauber Daniel.

Becoming Rogério Ceni: Glauber Daniel

Of course you can't expect 15 years old Glauber Daniel to take over immediately as first choice keeper for continental giants Juventude. The kid needs some seasoning, after all Rogério himself only became first choice for Sao Paulo at the age of 24... Glauber didn't have to wait that much, as he started to get some playing time at 17 in the 2020 season - playing in some less important fixtures or after Juventude secured their fourth Série A title. The results were encouraging as Glauber scored 3 goals in 15 appearances - two penalties and a free kick.

Glauber was finally named first choice keeper at the start of 2021 season, replacing veteran GK and former Brazil international Jefferson. The 18 years old will try to help Juventude defending their Gaucho state title in the first tournament of the endless brazilian football season - basically non stop action from January to December for a potential 80+ matches...

... and Glauber scored a hat trick (2 penalties, 1 free kick) in the first match of the season, great start! To be perfectly honest, it was a 15-0 thrashing of a lower league side as the Gaucho state championship features a few hopeless sides together with national giants Gremio and Internacional - our main rivals for this competition.

Miscellaneous about Glauber Daniel:

  • He likes to wear his favorite No.16 shirt.
  • He's an avid Juventude supporter.
  • Has been mentored by former international keepers Jefferson and Julio Cesar as he developed a Professional personality.
  • Apparently likes to change his hairstyle during the season.
  • Has a single Under-20 cap for Brazil, being second choice behind a fellow wonderkid goalkeeper from Juventude (sadly not a set pieces specialist).

Not really sure about the format of this story, probably won't do 'regular' updates it really depends on Glauber's performances! My long term goal is to beat Rogério Ceni's record and set a new unbeatable one!

Seems like a really good idea! look forward to seeing him smash the record!

Sounds like a fun and interesting challenge/story best of luck with it. I have a Brazilian keeper in my Benfica save (9 seasons in) and I believe he has 15 Free Kicks but he's mainly my backup keeper (behind Donnarumma) and I had him on frees but sadly he hasn't buried one yet!!!

Free kicks are a mystery in this game, and certainly the specific attribute doesn't tell the whole story. Sometimes a player just has 'it', and he'd score at a higher rate than others. I've had 'specialists' with 19 for FK scoring a grand total of 0 goals in five years... Glauber seems to have 'it' to some extent, also for some reason goalkeepers seem to be slightly more successful than outfield players in free kicks, or maybe it's just me.

With a 15 Free Kicks you can have a player learn the 'Hits free kicks with power' PPM, it might help - probably will have Glauber learn it if I can get his FK to 15...

I see I see...all very interesting stuff. I'm at pre season so training my keeper Zumbi to rifle in free kicks with power and giving him full responsibility...hopefully he can get a goal at least

Glauber Daniel does it again with another hat trick against Gaucho state strugglers Cruzeiro RS - this time all penalties! That's his second career hat trick, not too bad for a teenage goalkeeper...

Glauber also scored a penalty in the Gaucho state final against Internacional to seal another state championship for Juventude.

So far so good...

Glauber Daniel joins several teammates - including the whole back four - in Gaucho state Team of the Year:

l76TRk5.png

9 goals in 17 appearances, better than most Gaucho state strikers...

After the first part of the season - Gaucho state and early rounds of Copa Libertadores - Glauber has already hit double figures:

vx5eh7G.png

10 goals in 25 matches - 8 penalties and 2 free kicks - plus 4 assists (he also takes some indirect free kicks), an excellent tally so far. Still a lot of matches to play - the whole Série A plus final rounds of Copa Libertadores, then brazilian Cup an hopefully Club World Cup again - though the level of competition will be much higher than the Gaucho state. Hopefully our attackers can keep stealing penalties for Glauber at decent rate!

More success for Glauber Daniel as he's selected for the Copa Libertadores Dream Team after Juventude won another continental title:

Only one goal (a penalty) in 14 appearances though, much room for improvement here.

Elsewhere...

Glauber's close friend and fellow trainee from 2018 youth intake Edgar Machado earns his first cap for Brazil at the age of 18 and scores a brace in his international debut - a Confederations Cup match against New Zealand. Papada Pride.

What the ****...

Glauber Daniel called up for international duty with the Seleçao! Sure he's undisputed first choice for a very successful Juventude side but this was quite surprising nonetheless.

Glauber got his debut for Brazil as he started in a friendly against Slovenia, keeping a clean sheet in the process. I doubt they'd let him take penalties or free kicks with the NT, might as well try to get the Brazil job in the future just to give Glauber more chances to score - currently managing Chile part-time...

Glauber Daniel scores a penalty in the Brazilian Cup final against Santos, helping Juventude to retain the trophy.

First goal in this competition for Glauber, who also wins the Brazilian Cup Best Goalkeeper award.

Believe it or not after 79 total matches the season is not over yet...

This is why I love to play in the Brazilian League. Lots of games in a season, lots of titles, and very fun.

Loving the story about the Keeper

Thanks mate, yeah managing other leagues I often have players complaining about pre-season training starting too early even after a full month of break... my Brazilian team doesn't even get a holiday for Christmas! Kinda crazy but I love that.

Glauber Daniel and Juventude win Club World Cup to complete another fantastic season for the club.

Young shot-stopper Glauber, enjoying growing popularity for his goal scoring ability, managed to keep a clean sheet against Real Madrid's superstars, as super-sub Fredinho once again scored the winner with a powerful strike. Second consecutive CWC title for Juventude, the first with Glauber as their first choice keeper though.

All in all a pretty good season for the club...

lMbPLhd.png

Uhm it really was a Sextuple as for some reason they're not counting Gaucho state championship here, but yeah we did alright...

Next: focus on Glauber's season and stats.

Glauber Daniel: Year 2021

First year for Glauber Daniel as Juventude starting goalkeeper AND set piece specialist, a very good season both for the kid and the club:

VA8DKPt.png

Glauber made 78 appearances in all competitions (missed three games with minor injuries), scoring 17 goals (14 penalties and 3 free kicks) as Juventude won every single trophy this season. The young shot stopper is also developing well with massive first team action, has already earned his first cap for Brazil at 18 and is now described as a legit wonderkid.

Still some room for improvement though, both as a keeper and as a goal scorer:

View attachment 141219View attachment 141218

Glauber led the league in 'mistakes' with a shocking 119, we actually conceded more goals than last year (with solid veteran Jefferson as GK) and occasionally threw away comfortable leads: hopefully Glauber will learn from this and learn to command the defence a little better, don't forget he was just 18!

Glauber recorded a very good tally of 14/16 on penalty kicks (5/6 in Série A), though it was quite annoying to see other players stealing penalties from him as they chased their hat trick (3 penalties were stolen eventually, good for the 20 goals mark...). It sucks that I have no way to control this, only thing I can do is subbing those greedy glory hunters the second they score a brace...

3 free kick goals is not exactly amazing, though better than the usual 0 of my previous outfield 'specialists'. To be fair Glauber was a bit unlucky as he hit woodwork a few times, or had some free kicks well saved by the keeper. I'd like to train him to learn the 'Hits free kicks with power' PPM but it requires an attribute of 15 for FK and Glauber is stuck at 14 despite specific training... not cool...

Finally, Glauber's all time stats:

kEGabU6.png

98 total appearances and 20 goals (16 penalties and 4 free kicks for the record). By the way, Glauber has just turned 19!

At the start of new season Glauber Daniel scored a penalty against Boca Juniors as Juventude won the Recopa Sudamericana:

eLEKHEC.png

Glauber has now scored at least one goal in 5 different competitions in his young career: Gaucho State Championship, Série A, Copa do Brasil, Copa Libertadores and Recopa.

Meanwhile talismanic striker Icaro Dresch is embracing stardom and celebrity lifestyle, with the media pushing for a Brazil call-up at next World Cup and european clubs declaring interest for him. Admire his new look and hairstyle:

You mad cause he's stylin' on you.

More silverware and awards for Glauber Daniel as Juventude retain Gaucho State Championship once more. Glauber was also selected for Gaucho State Team of the Year joining several teammates (btw Icaro Dresch still stylin' on you):

rAfS3DS.png

6 goals in 17 matches, not bad though Glauber did miss a couple of penalties (a decent 8/10 in all competitions so far), of course everything is forgiven when he scores with his trademark 'folha seca' free kicks.

More of the same please!

Glauber Daniel makes Brazil preliminary squad for 2022 World Cup, together with three Juventude strikers:

R7kLCcx.png

Glauber is actually a lock for the final squad as Brazil already chose their three goalkeepers, while Fredinho, Edgar Machado and media darling Icaro Dresch are going to compete against brazilian world class attackers - and each other - to secure a spot in the final roster.

Z7zZ8RX.png

Machado has been first choice for both Juventude and Brazil recently, while Dresch is everyone's favourite and has been the best player in the country for last 18 months. Fredinho on the other hand has decided last two Club World Cups destroying Euorope's top clubs... we'll see what happens...
