best 4231 tactic that works in 14.3.1 patch

At Hoosier7 - thanks for the update good to hear its improved and your scoring plenty, attack wise you're getting same results as me both wingers and the AP scoring plenty of goals.

Think it might be Mertesacker's speed think 10+ acceleration might be better, Vermealen has 11 and my defence is solid without any tweaks, could also be Mertesacker's poor passing ability as the CBs have been instructed to pass out of defence, 10+ passing might be better.

Is strange how some people concede very few with this tactic but some need to tweek it a little, did u use the oi's i listed e.g. strikers tackle hard and show onto weaker foot.

How you doin in the league?

Yeh, have it set to assistant manager doing the oi's but i always check the striker. Currently five points off third and seem to bottle every opportunity to get level which is frustrating, just had the same problem as usual with target men, Stoke gave me a 2-1 beating with Crouch getting pretty much free reign despite my efforts.

Balanta had a patch of iffy form so i dropped him to the bench, might try reintroducing him in place of Mertesacker. It's a shame because Mertesacker's one of the calmest and most accurate passers in the league irl.

I've also just noticed that the changes i was making for away games was dropping the familiarity with the tactic so i've formed an away set up in it's own tactics slot which should help.

I've had a look at what that odd cross field ball was as it's crept back in.

Seems one of the two CMs gets a little isolated and tries to play a ball out to the winger of the opposite side, the pass falls short as the winger is too advanced. I don't get why the fullbacks aren't out there to offer an outlet though.

The fb may not always offer and outlet because they are set to fb support, they should still get forward but not as aggressively as a wb would but this was intentional aimed at stopping the opposition exploiting the wings which is more vulnerable in a 4-2-3-1.

You could try setting the full backs to attack and see if they offer more of an outlet without exposing the team defensively.

The wingers 9 time out of 10 should sit a little deeper as they are set to support instead of attack, offering a wide option for the bwm or the dlp.

Does it happen more when using the rigid philosopy? Full backs stay back more when set to rigid or very rigid.

Think it might have been the rigid philosophy.

Anyway season has finished up, came through trophy-less sadly and second in the league. Reckon i could have taken the title but lost out to Chelsea in one of the deciders. I'm feeling more positive going into the next season as i've added Diego Costa as more or less my only signing. Sold Szczesny for ter Stegen plus an extra ?12m, added Caulker in place of Vermaelen with Balanta going to be first choice next to Kos this season. Hopefully i shouldn't have the same problems with the CBs not playing the ball out well.

Coleman's not progressed much which is concerning, his rating is at 2.5 stars with no hope of growth and i'm not sure who to try and buy in the next window :S

Chambers has developed well for me, Aurier, Danilo and Peruzzi are all world class to.

I picked up Corchia in the end who did fairly well.

Well i just finished my third season but i think i'm going to try a different tactic as all i have to show for in three years is the league cup. I've had big problems with red cards killing me off in the final stages of most competitions and a total of six in the league alone this season. I've lost the title in the last 1-4 games for the last two seasons because of both this and stupid errors, the second season i lost on goal difference because of a last day defeat. I put it down to a lack of quality the first two seasons but this season i've got Wilshere, Ozil, James Rodriguez, Insigne, Draxler and Costa in my front line and nothing to show for it sadly.

I got good numbers out of Costa with 32 goals and Ozil, Rodriguez and Walcott on 13 each plus an 8-0 league win over Swansea who'd come back up though.

Hoosier7 - looks like you've had some bad luck with the red cards and that, I always take off my bwm or a defender whos on a yellow depending who we are playing and the scoreline doin that i only recieved one red the whole of last season in all comps.

Finishing 2nd on goal difference is harsh as well, similar thing happened to me was 1st by 1 point 90th min of final game of the season Chelsea 2nd drawing their game then they score last second winner to go 1st! :@

Nice front 5 btw with Costa, Rodriguez, Draxler, Ozil and Wilshere.

I signed Januzaj and he has been awesome as my AP could be a long term replacement for Ozil on your save.

thought id try this tactic im arsenal in 2027 tried a lot of tacics but this one has been great so far won 11 drawn 3 lost 2 on carling cup many thanks for his needed it

I made a big move for Januzaj but United just wouldn't sell :(
I got both Draxler and Rodriguez at ?20m each which i covered from player sales like Cazorla and Szczesny for ?20m each so i'm pretty happy there.

Sadly with the red it wasn't just the ball winning midfielder it was LB, both CBs, CAM, sometimes, second yellows sometimes but also straight reds from players who aren't very aggressive. Frustrating as there was a couple i felt i just couldn't do anything about and there was one or two from second yellows where i just didn't get into the tactics fast enough to drop their tackling to ease off. I've had a lot of press conference questions about my aggressive playing style.

I might try keeping it for one more season as i don't want to start from scratch with the familiarity. I'll give trying to shut up shop when 2-0 up a go, there was a few lost points from stupid collapses.

Chelsea might just be too good though, they're ridiculously good and tough to beat. They've had the Champions League and 2 Prem titles already plus another cup or two i think. I'm going to try and get a new BWM to take over from Khedira, maybe Wanyama to add a bit of height and strength and it might be time to go big for De Sciglio. I've also got some great regens, one's pretty much the Walcott of the left wing and another a STR with 5 star potential straight from my own academy who bagged more goals in a lot less games than some of my star players. Need to have more faith in them i think.

I managed to sign Januzaj for 30m at the end of the first season, Barkley is another great AP if you cant get Januzaj.

Chelsea have been really strong on my save to their trio of Hazard, Oscar and Willian tear teams apart plus they bought Diego Costa!

Some regens have great stats at just 16, hope you have a more successful season keep me posted.

Heres how im doing with Arsenal nearing the end of the 2nd season using this tactic:

Hi mate, been away 2 weeks and it took me that long to complete one season. I won the Scottish championship but the tactic went a little inconsistant at one point and I changed for a while, then went back, kept my training at defensive positioning, and it worked a treat. not got screenies just yet, will upload them later or tomorrow.

so tactic was going well but noticed defence was playing too far up and players was getting behind them so after reading thread again I came across a comment move to counter and drop defence deeper which I did and its working great

still a great tactic thanks

Thanks for the feeback might try that myself glad its working well.

Something i do when im winning and there are 20 mins or so to go is add the instruction retain possession and replace my AP with an anchor man and bdasically see the game out.

We're really spoilt for choice when it comes to 4231, iv used xox 4231 deep for good success, steatons is good for strong teams, also zvono looks good, and the new 1 that the bloke has made with leeds, also jassers impossible v2, ttf looks good but havnt tried them, which to choose lol

So much choice! Try as many as possible and stick with which ever works best :-)

This is the new improved version 2 of my 4-2-3-1 tactic which is now even more consistent and lets the striker do his fair share of the scoring, it took a lot of time to create a formation that would get the striker scoring on a regular basis and be strong defensively.

Adding the instruction drop deeper and removing pass into space has made the tactic much stronger against the big teams, please give it a go and tell me how you get on:

Opposition Instructions:

Strikers: Show onto weaker foot and tackle hard

Midfielders and Full Backs: Close down always

If the oppositions CBs or GK has composure of less then 12 then close them down as well it can cause them to panic and make a mistake.

Favourite win using this tactic vs Man City: :D.

Just Beaten Man Utd away, might not look like it but my team dominated only goal they scored was from a corner, 21 shots to their 8 and 55% possession.
