For my next project, I'm thinking 1980s. In the 1986 World Cup final, Argentina and West Germany both employed sweeper systems so I may try and replicate one of those formations. Or both!

Awesome link, thank you. I use many sources when I build historical formations (which I should reference..and will do in future!) but I must admit that one has passed me by.

In 86 both sides were 5-3-2 Sweeper but, as I remember (and I listened to the final on the radio of my mate's Ford Escort), Argentina played on the counter with a DM and Germany were more attacking with Magath behind the strikers.

Think I'll try the Argentina one first with a Maradona figure as SS, a Valdano as TM or DF and a Burruchaga driving forward from midfield. Everyone else can just kick lumps out of people like Argentina '86

Well, forget the Sweeper idea. Sweepers and Liberos are completely borked in this ME. I'll think of something else...
