Man United The New Look

An articale on how United have changed over the years and why they will struggle this season.

As Sir Bobby Charlton took over to replace the Glazers this week i thought some may be interested in the rising and falling of the Red Devils since the 2009/2010 season. The United Legend stepped in as the financial situation worsened and the new chairman will be looking to built a new squad as many are now gone or as on the wrong side of 30. United are still a highly valued team (est. value £221m) but have a huge loan debt of £596m. With a squad that is full of youngsters with not the most impressive potential it is unsure what the future holds for United. Rooney will have to carry the side this season and they were very lucky to hang on to him.

The main reason to this situation is the poor form in the league in the previous seasons. 5th in 2009/2010, 3rd in 2010/2011, 8th in 2011/2012 and 2nd 2012/2013. despite good form last season the lack of European football was a major issue as the revenue lost was massive which lead to the high loan payments and high wages of players such as Gago, Rooney, Ferdinand etc. as they seem more interested in their flash lifestyle rather than the health of the club.

United spending has also been poor, their major 5 signings in the last 4 season were.... Filipe £16.5m, Shawcross £14.5m, Delfouneso £16m, N'Zogbia £13m and Gago £5.75m. Gago is the only one who remains on the team if you look at the fee they sold the players for and the fact for the fees paid alot didnt even get their game and were left out in the cold. Here are the fees received... Filipe £5.25m, Shawcross £9m, Delfouneso £10.5m and N'Zogbia was released on a free.

United also sold potienal stars for cheap over the last 4 years even Nani was sold to the rich Real Madrid for a meager £9.75m, they also let the likes of Welbeck, De Laet, Fabio, Rafael, Digne, Valencia, Cleverley, Gibson, Diouf, Obertan and Michael Potts for low prices. The future looks bleak for United.

Casey side saw themselves at Wembley for the 3rd time in 5 years, The 90,000 expected a close game but Liverpool were expected to just win in the tie with most feeling it may come down to penalties. 19 minutes in a corner was swung in by Gerrard, the cross meet the head of Torres who sent it away from goal but a deflection of Maxi Rodriguez lead it to hit the post and cross the line 1-0 Liverpool. On the 43rd minute Liverpool were dealt a huge blow as Gerrard was forced to come off injured, the Liverpool captain was replace by Kuyt. Liverpool were dominating the 1st half and at the break it looked like they was no way back into the game for Birmingham.

2nd Half Birmingham came out a different side with the defence and attack fired up. With 56 minutes gone Vagner Love found himself some space before feeding a ball to the roaming full back Hutton who had bombed up the pitch, a dangerous ball from the Scottish international found its way into the 6 yard box..... Lukaku was 1st to the ball 1-1 game on! Lukaku 50th goal for the Blues.

Dentonho won a free-kick towards the end of the game on the 86th minute, Hutton searched for Dentinho on the right wing, the brazilian brought it foward with a driving run before cutting inside skipping by the Liverpool fullback, He then offloaded to Delfounese the ex Villian beat 1 man before playing a wonderful ball to Lukaku... 2-1 Lukaku smashing home, he has done it again great team goal. A thats how it ended as Birmingham send out a warning to the rest of the nation. After being owned in the 1st half they completely turned it around to end the game with a 2nd half were Liverpool weren't given 1 chance.

Not the result i was looking for but still better than a loss. A strong Villa side who look stronger every season. 2 minutes in Agbonlahor's pace put him clean through to make it 1-0. A Huddlestone pinpoint pass left Bastos free in the middle, the Brazilian scored to make it level. Remy made it 2-1 smashing home after brushing Bassong aside. Birmingham came back again from a set piece with Young failing to cope with a corner heading it into his own net. The Blues took the lead for the 1st time in the game as Witsel drove the ball from from beyond 25 yards crashing of the post before crossing the line. It was Remy again on the 81st to crush the Blue's fans spirits with a tidy finish. Ex Villain Delfouneso was injured by his former teammates and will miss 3 weeks.

(Away) Newcastle 5-1 MoM Lukaku

Went behind to an early goal as Ryan Taylor meet a cross hitting the post on its way in. Bassong made it 1-1 moments later with a flying header from a Kolarov corner, Then Love made it 2-1 on the 11th minute. Lukaku broke the defence down twice before the break giving Birmingham a handsome 4-1 lead at half time. Straight after Love scored again with a typical poacher to goal to kill the game. That was that 5-1 to Birmingham.

(Home) Wolves 1-1 MoM Milijas

Yes i know a poor result but Wolves showed no intention on playing today. They claimed on paper to be using a flat 4-4-2 but on the pitch it was more of a 8-1-1 with their only concern to prevent us from playing. Their tactics work as although we had to majority of possession and loads of shots we couldn't seem to break them down. Milijas put his side ahead with a stunning free-kick and later Lansbury managed to split the defence to set Lukaku free to make it level.

(Away) Sheff Utd 6-1 MoM Lukaku

Went ahead early threw Lukaku but the lead didn't last long as a Rose cross was meet by Evans to to make it all square again, i thought to myself he we go again. Thankfully a Lansbury shot deflected of Love to make it 2-1 after 33 minutes. Less then 10 minutes later Love broke free of the defence leaving himself one on one with the keeper, Love then unselfishly squared it to Bastos who placed it home. At half time Casey noticed Love had picked up a slight knock and brought on Dentinho who would go on to have a great game. Straight from kick off Dentinho ran the pitch before putting on a plate for Lukaku 4-1. Lukaku then showed he can provide goals to laying up Huddlestone who smashed on the 81st minute. Then Dentinho got the last goal of the game he meet a Huddlestone through ball with a 1st time shot which went flying by the helpless Wolves keeper.

Review

An ok start i guess but the results against Wolves and Villa were disappointing. Huddlestone came 2nd in Player of the Month with Lukaku 3rd. Lukaku then won Young Player of the Month. Fousseyni Tangara has impressed Casey with his scoring at Coventry the youngster's stats can been seen below. Finally the Champions League group draw. As being a 3rd seed we knew it wouldn't be an easy group and it will be far from easy 1st to pop up was Inter, then we will be travelling to the Stade De Gerland to face Lyon and lastly its Polish side Lecha (a least 1 side we will beat).

Yeah I've signed him and he was alright.
Not incredible though. You must have had one **** of a defence.
Anyway great story and I was wondering how good Vaclav Kadlec was getting on.
Could you post a screenshot of him?
And will you continue this thread or start a new story when you resign from Birmingham.
Cheers
