Man United The New Look
An articale on how United have changed over the years and why they will struggle this season.
As Sir Bobby Charlton took over to replace the Glazers this week i thought some may be interested in the rising and falling of the Red Devils since the 2009/2010 season. The United Legend stepped in as the financial situation worsened and the new chairman will be looking to built a new squad as many are now gone or as on the wrong side of 30. United are still a highly valued team (est. value £221m) but have a huge loan debt of £596m. With a squad that is full of youngsters with not the most impressive potential it is unsure what the future holds for United. Rooney will have to carry the side this season and they were very lucky to hang on to him.
The main reason to this situation is the poor form in the league in the previous seasons. 5th in 2009/2010, 3rd in 2010/2011, 8th in 2011/2012 and 2nd 2012/2013. despite good form last season the lack of European football was a major issue as the revenue lost was massive which lead to the high loan payments and high wages of players such as Gago, Rooney, Ferdinand etc. as they seem more interested in their flash lifestyle rather than the health of the club.
United spending has also been poor, their major 5 signings in the last 4 season were.... Filipe £16.5m, Shawcross £14.5m, Delfouneso £16m, N'Zogbia £13m and Gago £5.75m. Gago is the only one who remains on the team if you look at the fee they sold the players for and the fact for the fees paid alot didnt even get their game and were left out in the cold. Here are the fees received... Filipe £5.25m, Shawcross £9m, Delfouneso £10.5m and N'Zogbia was released on a free.
United also sold potienal stars for cheap over the last 4 years even Nani was sold to the rich Real Madrid for a meager £9.75m, they also let the likes of Welbeck, De Laet, Fabio, Rafael, Digne, Valencia, Cleverley, Gibson, Diouf, Obertan and Michael Potts for low prices. The future looks bleak for United.
