Celtic story - with a difference

Nice story, good idea. I was going to do a similar one except force Rangers out of Business & Celtic suffer due to this and both teams fold & Unite as one to become Glasgow City (like the ladies) & begin in the English leagues.

So are you actually affiliated with Celtic? Any chance of loaning a few of their youngsters?

If so it will be interesting to see how that relationship develops as you progress through the leagues!

As for advice, i'm next to useless so i'm afraid you're on your own there but i'm very interested to see how this plays out. :)

Yeah we're affiliated with Celtic (as Rangers Utd are with Rangers), however because we're in such a poor league none of their players are preferred to join us. Hopefully the affiliation will become better as we (hopefully) climb up the leagues.

Haha, well i've never managed this low down before so should be interesting :)

I found a target man to be absolutely vital for me when I was down this end of the pyramid, thankfully Lincoln had Jordan Burrow who was pretty capable.

I thought a target man would be useful as i plan to play slightly more direct than i have before :) thanks for the advice mate!

Cracking idea that mate! Should definitely give that a try :)

Just before the trials started I put an advert in the job centre for a new coach, scout and assistant manager. The backroom staff are so important, especially for an inexperienced manager.

After the advert had been in a few days I picked the best of a fairly bad bunch:

· Asensio (coach) signs - joins after his previous coaching spell with Macclesfield expired at the end of last season. Very good tactical coach who prefers the attacking side of play.
· Hilton (*** man) signs - Pretty happy with this appointment. Signed from Bishops Stortford who play in the Conference South. Also had spells with West Ham and Ipswich as youth team manager. As you'd expect he's very good working with youngsters and has great determination also a good man manager and motivator.
· Milton (scout) signs - Pretty poor stats all across the board ... expect for 'judging player ability' and 'judging player potential', probably the 2 most important attributes for a scout.

View attachment 309601View attachment 309598 View attachment 309597

Now we've got a decent set of backroom staff, i feel much more comfortable in believing scout report and coach report etc.

View attachment 309596
John Milton's first piece of advice was to check out experienced goalkeeper STEVE PHILLIPS who was quickly snapped up. Phillips was plying his trade 2 divisions below the Conference North, in the Western League Premier Division with Cadbury Heath. Phillips does have Football League experience, being with League 1 Crewe until 2013.
View attachment 309595
After playing about in this division for a short while before this save, i noticed that the level of goalkeeping was terrible. For me, the goalkeeper is going to be the most important position for me.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

View attachment 309592
John Nutter became the second signing in this pre-season joining on a free transfer after his contract with Conference Premier League side Woking expired last season. Nutter actually played 43 games last season for Woking but for whatever reason found himself a free agent. Nutter's only Football League experience came at Gillingham between 2007 and 2010 where Gills yo-yoed between League 1 and 2.
View attachment 309590
Signing on only £250 per week, we couldn't really say no to Nutter. Also looks to be a decent set piece taker for this level.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

View attachment 309589
Matteo Capitani is the first attacking player to join the newly formed team. Capitani began his career with serie A side Parma but failed to make a single appearance. Capitani then signed for Derby County's youth team last season but yet again failed to make an appearance. Capitani signs on a free after Derby were prepared to let him go.
View attachment 309588
The 18 year old looks to have a decent career ahead of him for this level with assistant manager Paul Hilton giving him 4/5 star potential ability.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

View attachment 309587
Plummer becomes the first BIG signing for Celtic Utd and the first signing where a transfer fee was paid. Plummer signs from Conference side Aldershot for £30k. You could say that Plummer has had somewhat of a journeyman career, playing for a total of 9 teams including Bristol City, Luton and Hereford.
View attachment 309586
Another player good enough for the Conference Premier League according to my assistant. Plummer might not have great crossing skills but his pace should mean he can easily beat his man.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

View attachment 309585
Ladje Soukouna becomes the latest addition, as you can see Soukouna can play in a variety of positions which should really help us with our small squad. His favoured position is central midfield but i feel he'll be more of a squad rotation player.
View attachment 309584
Again, my assitant really thinks Soukouna will be a very good player in the future, giving him 4.5 star potential. Soukouna is already 23 years old so hopefully he can reach this potential soon.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

View attachment 309582
Another big money signing comes in the shape of Danny Webber. Although Webber signs on a free transfer his £2.3k per week wages more than makes up for it. Webber really should bring us some quality though as well as experience. Webber is a former Premier League player with both Sheff Utd and Portsmouth. Webber began his career at Man Utd where he was part of their famous youth set up, he then joined Watford in a career which saw him play for 7 teams at various levels.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

View attachment 309581
Benyon joins from League 2 side Torquay, again paying a fee, for £15k. Benyon spent 2 years at Torquay, making 52 appearances but only scored 7 goals! So Benyon certainly isnt prolific but hopefully his build up play with help the likes of Webber of Capitani.
View attachment 309580
My assistant believes Benyon would be a good player for the Conference and gives him 3.5 star current ability.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

View attachment 309579
Damon Lathrope becomes the second addition of the squad to arrive from Aldershot. Lathrope should be number 1 choice in central midfield.
View attachment 309578
Once again my assistant believed Lathrope is good enough for the Conference and gives him 3.5 star current ability.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

View attachment 309576
Yet another midfielder joins the club, this time in the shape of Clovis Kamdjo who joins the club after falling out of favour at Conference side Forest Green. Kamdjo prefers the defensive side but can also play in central midfield and central defence.
View attachment 309575
Paul Hilton only gives Kamdjo 2.5 stars for his current ability but 4 star for his potential. Again Kamdjo is 23 years old so still has time to improve.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

View attachment 309574
The last signing before the season starts comes in the shape of former Newcastle youth product, Ben Tozer. Tozer signs for £26k from League 2 side Northampton after a brief loan spell at Colchester.

My assistant gives Ben Tozer 4.5 star for his current ability and 5 stars for his potential. Tozer really should be one of the best players in the league.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So that brings an end to my transfers as the season is about to begin. Lets re-cap on my pre-season results:

View attachment 309573

So as you can see, we haven't had the best results this pre season, however this is because all our efforts have been focused on getting the squad ready. For a lot of these pre-season games we had to field a lot of youth team players.

The season is now about to begin with our first game against Harrogate (Away).

Looking good! Will be interesting to see how the team develops through the divisions! :)

So, just before the season started we had our first bit of bad news:

View attachment 309137

After putting forward (i thought) a good offer to Steve Kabba i thought the deal was done. But late interest from Rangers Utd turned his head and decided to join them in favour of us. He would have only been a back up player anyway but still disappointing that he chose Rangers Utd over us!

Before our first game, the board outlined their expectations for this season:
View attachment 309136

I found Sean Newton and Ben Tomlinson to be very solid lower league players, may be worth a look if you come up short on other targets.

Not a good way to start a relationship with your assistant manager to be honest

Looks interesting - i'll be following! C'mon the hoops!

Will have a look at these two mate but im pretty much spent up on my budget now. Thanks for the advice though.

CELTIC UTD 2 - 0 HARROGATE
So our first match in English football ended with a fairly straight forward 2-0 win against Harrogate away from home. Really pleased with this as i wasnt 100% sure what to expect, especially with Harrogate being 6th favourite for promotion this could have been a really difficult one.

CELTIC UTD 1 - 2 WORCESTER

The next match (also away from home) was much more disappointing, this is a game we really shouldnt have lost! Worcester were not only predicted to finish 15th but were actually pretty poor in this match too. We were both pretty tight but just gave them far too many opportunities.

CELTIC UTD 2 - 0 GAINSBOROUGH
Our first home game in English football (against Gainsborough) brought us back to winning ways with a 2-0 win against a poor Gainsborough side. An attendance of nearly 29,000 shows how big this club could be.

BRACKLEY 0 - 3 CELTIC UTD
Another pleasing win against Brackley (away) where we dominated throughout and came away 3-0 winners. Brackley were predicted to finish mid table so it was always a game we should have won.

CELTIC UTD 0 - 0 HEDNESFORD
Another disappointing draw, this time with Hednesford who are predicted to finish 10th. Again, we had a lot of chances but just couldnt take our chances. Our only excuse for this game is the amount of injures we had to deal with (shown below).

All in all, a decent month!
2 disappointing results against would-be mid table teams. This leaves us currently 5th in league with 10 points, 2 behind leaders Solihull Moors.

View attachment 308632

As you can see, Rangers Utd haven't had the best start to life in England, currently sit in 12th place. They suffered 2 defeats (to Hyde and Tamworth) and also dropped points against Guiseley.

As i mentioned earlier, we had a terrible month for injuries!!

View attachment 308631
Center back and new signing Ben Tozer was our fist casualty, being ruled out for 6 weeks with a strained back. This does leave us slightly short at the back.

View attachment 308630
Another long(ish) term injury to a new signing. This time young center forward Matteo Capitani is ruled out for 7 weeks with a twisted ankle. This now puts further pressure on Danny Webber and Elliot Benyon as our only strikers. Capitani's injury came at the beginning of the season so i'm hopefully he'll be fit around mid September.
View attachment 308629
Another very important player injured for 7 weeks! This leaves us very short for the right wing position with no one else specialised in this position.
View attachment 308628
And now the left winger suffers an injury, again an injury for up to 5 weeks! This time with a twisted knee. We are yet again short for this position now.
View attachment 308627
Another injury to a striker, this now puts even more pressure on Danny Webber to not only knock in the goals but to also stay fit ...
View attachment 308626
Well, that didnt last long! An injury to our surviving striker now, fortunately only for 2 weeks with a training ground injury.

Because of the amount of injures i felt we needed a couple of extra additions to the squad:

View attachment 308625View attachment 308624

The first addition came in the shape of Stephane Zubar. Zubar will really add competition for the existing 2 center backs. It will probably be between him and the currently injured Ben Tozer.

View attachment 308613View attachment 308612

Lee Lucas became the latest midfield player to join us, he looks to be one of the best players at the club and to be honest, slightly surprised we managed to get him.

View attachment 308623

The final adition to the squad is Josh Giles who signs on loan from Carlisle. Giles can play on bot wings as well an midfield and even up front.
This should really help with our injury problems.

View attachment 308485

A better month in September which saw us go unbeaten in all 6 games, including progessing into the FA cup 3rd qualifying round.
Im sure most people's eyes have immediately been drawn to the first Glasgow derby in English football, which we managed to win 3-1 !!
First off all,
STALYBRIDGE 0 - 0 CELTIC UTD
the first match of the month was a bit of a struggle as we still didnt have a properly fit striker, Josh Giles filling the gap until players come back from injury. We created quite a few chances but the final ball and finishing were poor.
CELTIC UTD 4 - 2 SOLUHULL MOORS

The next game was a top of the league crunch match, up until this point Solihull Moors had only lost 1 game and were 2 points ahead of us in 1st position. But a great performance, helped by some important players returning ensured an emphatic 4-2 home win.
STOCKPORT 2 - 2 CELTIC UTD
Another draw against a team we should really be beating. Stockport were tipped for a mid table finish so slightly disappointed not to get the 3 points here.
CELTIC UTD 2 - 1 GLOUCESTER
Another good win keeps our great home form going with 3 wins from 4 games. A fairly straight forward victory with just a late goal to set up a couple of nervy late minutes.
RANGERS UTD 1 - 3 CELTIC UTD
Now the big one, probably the biggest game this divisions ever seen! 29,000 fans saw Celtic Utd race into an early lead with Exodus Geohaghon scoring a comical own goal. Celtic then dominanted the match before doubling their lead through midfield Lee Lucas with a great strike from the edge of the box in the 82nd minute. Rangers Utd then came back into the match late on, Danny Lennon scoring a fantastic goal from 30 yards on the 87th minute which yet again set up a nervy last 5 mins or so. Rangers Utd then really pilled on the pressure which set up perfectly for us as we managed to catch them on the break. Plummer using his pace to run through from the halfway line and setting up Benyon with an easy tap in.
Bragging rights are ours!!!
CELTIC UNITED 2 - 0 RAINWORTH MW
Another fairly straight forward victory against Rainworth MW who currently play in a couple of divisions below us, in the Northern Premier League First Division.
This victory set up a third qualifying round tie against fellow Northern division side Gloucester:

View attachment 308484

The end of September saw us finish in 4th place, still 3 points behind top spot. Rangers Utd also seem to have picked up slightly, despite losing to us, and finish the month just a place behind us.
View attachment 308482
At this stage, we're definitely drawing too many games which could harm our promotion chances if we're not careful.

Lets have a look how our (sort of) parent club are getting on:
View attachment 308481
Celtic strugging slightly after 8 games and fine themselves 6 points behind leaders Dundee Utd in 3rd spot. They look to be having the same problem as us in the fact that they just draw too many games.

And their biggest rivals:
View attachment 308480
Rangers are also struggling and are in 6th position, 5 points behind leaders Falkirk. Quite the opposite to us and Celtic, Rangers are yet to draw a game but have only won 3 out of 7 (losing 4).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The end of September also saw the end of the transfer markets, we didnt make any additional recruits i thought id recap the rest of the countries transfers:
View attachment 308483

unsurprisingly we were the most active side during the trasfer window, signing 11 players (not including our trialists). Chelsea were the biggest spenders, parting with £17.25 million for Sami Khedira.

Interesting read dude! I love the concept of it.
Would have been interesting to see Celtic and Rangers join the premiership all those years ago! Personally i dont think they would have survived IRL.

Good idea to form new teams with affiliations though! Should be interesting to see how far you can progress!
One player that stood out for me , was Steve Kabba. I dont think he ever really scored too many goals irl, but i remember he used to be decent signing on old fms! Same as Peschisolido!

Will be keeping tabs on this to see how you do :)

Should be a long save i reckon? Getting up to the premiership is going to be a real tough ask! GOOD LUCK :-)

Yeah i dont think they'd have coped either IRL. Hopefully by climbing up the leagues gradually they'll have a better chance of staying there if/when we reach the premiership.
No i dont think he ever scored that many! Injuries ruined his career i think. As a Sheff utd fan i actually have fond memories of Kabba as he scored some important goals for us without ever being prolific.
Yeah should be a long term save, my ultimate aim is to reach the premier league so will have to pretty long term.

Have you ever managed at this kind of level?

Yeah i remember Steve Kabba so well, and straight away i thought he was prolific but when i checked his history on here he never really scored ALOT at anytime. So he mustve scored some important goals for me to remember him? lol

AHHHH Sheff Utd. Theres been some decent games between yourselves and Ipswich over the years.

I remember one game I THINK at Portman Road. Sheff Utd went into like a 2 or 3 - 0 lead. We ended coming back to beat you. That was when we stole your "da der der da der der da" goal celebration chant haha

MEMORIES :-)

It will be take a mammoth effort to get Celtic Utd up there. But with it being such an interesting thread and difficult one! You see should alot of interest in it :)

I once done a save with Oxford a few fm's ago. I think i was in the Blue square prem and James Constable was an absolute beast upfront for me. I ended up winning two successive promotions to League one but then struggled. I think i had about 2 season in League one before i lost interest! It was really hard though. Without a good knowledge of those sort of players i find it hard to bring in the right people.

Ive done a few saves where ive edited made up teams and absolutely smashed it and climbed up to the Premiership. But it was definitely hardcore cheating so that was kind of irrelavent to share.

I thought he'd scored a lot more than he actually did as well, had to google it to double check lol.

Yeah there have been! Think in the last game Connor Wickham scored a right goal, beat about 4 players from the halfway line. Was like watching Maradona lol !!

I've tried signing James Constable but unfortunately he isnt interested in joining.

YES! I remember seeing that goal! It was beastly! He was built like an mountain for his age!
Shame we had to sell him. Im sure he wouldve progressed more if he stayed here! Same with Jordan Rhodes!

Oh well :-(

He is reliable in the lower leagues.

I remember one year, there was this player called Karl _____ something haha. He played for Notts County i think. But was with an even lower team than that originally in a previous fm. He had amazing stats for league 2 player!

great read so far cant wait to see how it turns out.Do you have any plans to let anyone download your work so we can have a go ourselves
