Club Atlas are a Mexican team who have been in the top league of Mexico, the Liga MX, very consistently. However, despite being in the league for 90 of the 94 years it has ran they have only managed to win 1 league title in 1951. Made all the more impressive as Mexico awards two league champions per year and has done so for the last 20 years. Atlas have at least managed to pick up three Mexican cups with wins in 1946, 2950, 1962 and 1968 meaning the club is hitting 50 years with no trophies. The goal for this save is to make it so that the club can move up from having a trophy shelf to a trophy cabinet.
Club Overview
View attachment 60331Atlas are a Guadalajara based team so have a strong rivalry with Chivas, their slightly more successful rivals who only use Mexican players. The club play at the Estadio Jailisco a 54,500 seater stadium, that according to FM is owned by a team in the 3rd Division but we use, which was the base for the Brazil team in the two Mexican world cups. Atlas are known for their academy having produced players like Andres Guardado, ex Mexico top scorer Jared Borgetti and Rafael Marquez among others.
Key Players

A Colombian centre back is our best player and out for 7-8 months with a cruciate ligament injury that will see him miss all of the Clausura unfortunately.
Jefferson Duque

Our best uninjured player he is unfortunately on-loan and division rival Morelia with us paying all his wages and unable to recall him from the loan. It is the same with a number of players as Mexican teams seem to loan each other a ton of players.
Rafael Marquez

An academy graduate who has returned after a successful spell in Europe and in the Americas. The defensive midfielder is vastly experienced and talented for this level also able to cover at centre back. However, in a recurring theme for my best players he will be unavailable for a while as he has a random two month suspension in the middle of the season.

The reason most people in the U.K. have heard of Atlas ex-United youngster Morrison is on loan at the club from Lazio. At 15% of our wage budget if he doesn't perform he will be out of the club in no time.

We are predicted to be involved in a three way battle to avoid the one relegation spot in the league along with newly promoted Lobos and Nexaca.

As it is a league people may not be familiar with I should explain how the league works. All the 17 teams play each other once and then the top 8 teams play a knock out tournament with the winner winning the league, meaning the team in 8th can be declared the league winner. There are two of them per season the Clausura and the Apertura and after that one team is relegated.

Relegation is decided by the Average Points table over the last 3 years with one team going down per year. A very poor 2015/16 season where we ended with 31 points, the least any team has for one season, puts us in a challenging position to avoid the drop with only Veracruz currently behind us who have played games with newly promoted Lobos not counting as they haven't played games.
